ST The Romantic Future of Kylo Ren and Rey

Very true. I'm probably going to write something similar for Rey. I tried for Finn, but it didn't work. His developmental path doesn't follow the Hero's Journey.

In terms of the Star Wars universe, what worse thing do you think Kylo can do than kill Han Solo, and still be brought back to the light? It seems to me that if killing his father isn't the trigger to begin his move the other way, there's not much worse that he could do.

(Of course, Kylo could commit genocide or other acts of mass and wanton destruction, but in terms of storytelling value and force, killing Han is so big it could only be topped by killing Luke or Leia, too . . .)

 

I'm a bit pressed for time just now so I can't get into direct replies and debates. I have a few random observations...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Darth Vader translate to Dark Father? I know George Lucas has retconned a lot of his own Star Wars history, but I can give him that one. If the Internet had been around back then, people would have definitely made the connection.

As for the official Star Wars data bank and visual dictionaries etc etc, and speaking of Pablo Hidalgo, check out his recent Twitter feed. He directly addressed the issue of Owen Lars being identified as Obi-Wan's brother and the Star Wars encyclopaedia that changed that "fact". There is a precedent for information being adjusted, and I don't think this is the only example of that occurring.

I'm not trying to wheedle Kylo out of slaughtering Luke's Jedi apprentices, but they left it deliberately vague in the movie for a reason, I believe. Han says a boy (probably Ben - at least that's the insinuation) turned against Luke and destroyed it all. That whole event is ripe for a big reveal IMO. Whether that is to paint Kylo as more of a monster in the audience's eyes, or to show the audience that what they thought they knew was completely wrong, is not clear yet. My feeling is we don't know anywhere near enough about what was going on with Luke and his students to be sure of anything at this point.

I agree, it does not fit which means he's probably a shape shifter. My mum immediately thought he was a sleeper agent.

 

I think he is too. Just a feeling, call it an instinct, I've had for a while. A lot of things don't fit, but it's entirely possible only a few (or perhaps even one) character knows. I'm leaning toward Phasma. There is just something off about Finn...

 

You flat out said yesterday that finn and rey are done it won't happen it would bad writing etc etc etc..I quoted something that person stated saying finn and Rey love interest was interrupted...now if finn is to be censored in this particular thread then why even bring his name up to justify Kyle men's relevance into the equation with rey?

 

You have obviously not read my post.

I admitted it is possible he killed students. However, it is equally possible he didn't or it was an accident...and they would not reveal this on any website since that would end up being a spoiler.....and if you read my second paragraph, I even mention an instance in the EU when they called someone a "jedi killer" until a later comic was released which reveal he was innocent.

The possibility is there but I don't believe it will happen, it could but I personally don't think so. I'm not denying Finn and Rey, however from my personal view, they remind me of Leia and Luke.

Selective reading much? I didn't say they were done. I said in my opinion there isn't much more room for development between them as the two characters stand right now. Things could change that. Finn is a sketchy character. There's something off about him. Either the writers were sloppy with his writing or we're getting a big reveal, implanted memories, a fake personality, all that. I'm going to stop myself because this thread isn't about Finn. I'm not censoring him, I'm just acknowledging the fact that this thread isn't devoted to in-depth discussion about Finn. Period.

 

I understand that you and others have said "it might be true" but for me it's the fact that given the two options it's seem like you are leaning towards the less likely that just so happens to reduce the not so flattering picture painted of Kylo .

Yea he did, however he fails to do anything about it. I suspect it was himself that asked Phasma to enquire about the blaster. I can't remember how the scene played out in the book, but he pretends his blaster isn't working.

You happen to be leaning towards the former interpretation....nobody is stopping you from doing that....so why do you care so much what others think? To be very honest, I like Kylo's character a lot but that I am open to either interpretation, and that is why I specifically said we don't know the "circumstances" of the death, and not that he didn't kill students ....I can't say the same for you though.

Cause all those "shippers" are here anti-shipping Reylo (which is a form of shipping, tee-hee). When Finnrey shippers can't even muster passion for discussing Finnrey, but all their passion goes into anti-shipping Reylo, that tells you something about each ship. Reylo obviously gets people talk and feel strongly about (whether it's love or hate). Finnrey can't get conversation going and feelings for it are obviously not strong. hence all "shippers" of passion-less ship spending their hours on passion ship's forum posting against the passion ship.

but, yes, make no mistake anti-shipping is shipping. it's like hate watch. you still watch the show and contribute to ratings. And ratings are all that matters.
