Narratively, it doesn't make sense to kill either Leia or Luke plus last time I checked neither Carrie nor Mark were clamoring for on screen deaths. Han died cause Harrison wanted him dead since the 80s.

It's tricky to serve shocker death in every movie in the trilogy because when people expect something than it becomes ineffective. That's why ESB went with mutilation and big reveal rather than another major death. VIII's problem is that everyone now expect either major death or major reveal or major hand/other body part cutting or combination of 2 or all 3. So very little room for surprise if they stick to SW formula and tropes. But if they think outside of the box and we get none of the above tropes but something entirely different, than we are better for it.

I would have thought maybe he wouldn't wear a mask in the next film. Maybe (although long shot) he'll be open with the scar.

However, from the Force Awakens art book, Kylo looks like he wears half a mask. Again it's not canon so I've no clue, but I would like him to be unmasked.

We should all relax, I doubt Luke or Leia will die. Obviously that video was a big phoney video, but they're fun to watch anyway while waiting. I can't wait though for December 2017

Kylo Ren's 8-Pack - I'm hoping he doesn't wear the mask in Ep 8, except maybe if he's fighting, one facial scar is enough!

Anyone sending abuse to Daisy Ridley, the young girl who created some fantastic fanart, or anyone else on social media, forums, tumblr etc, ought to be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. :mad:There's a million things in real life to be getting hot under the collar about, but shipping wars ain't one of them!

I love that this movie is massive in China right now, and the best bit, the heroine falls in love with the villain she is sent to kill...;) http://io9.gizmodo.com/stephen-chows-crazy-mermaid-adventure-just-became-china-1760902197

I think the pic is just a reversed image. I've seen the one were it is on the side with the scar. I do know that there is one online floating everywhere, that it is on the other side.

I'm confident Han will remain the great sacrifice of this Trilogy. It's interesting that it came in the first film, but that just opens up a lot more narrative possibilities. Han's death is not getting overshadowed by Luke's, Leia's or anybody else's.

I think the only hand-severing we're getting is going to be in a flashback about the Jedi student massacre. I'm quite certain Ren already has a mechanical hand similar to Luke's and Anakin's. His real one was probably lopped off by Luke. It would be a nice way to to subvert the "someone's losing a hand" expectation everybody and their dog has for Episode VIII without leaving one of the most famous Star Wars parallels unacknowledged. Ren featured a mechanical arm in every old concept art as it is.

I'm sure this has been linked a million times but I like it so here it is again. Lovely work. Heavy on the symbolism.

It makes me I'll thinking anyone would send a 13 year old girl hate, let alone Daisy.

That said, I doubt that Daisy is giving it any thought. She has better things to do with her time like...I don't know....filming a movie!!!

moonjump05 Emotionally wrought. He really shouldn't get physically injured anymore, TFA was more than humanly possible. He's such a Spartan in that he didn't care that he was badly injured, but off he goes to fight 2 people.

Can't wait for DVD so that we can finally post legal gifs.

They are not the only ones who have been 'awakened'...

Have i mentioned how my sleeping habits are totally messed up now thanks to ....well....thinking way to much about these fictional characters and their complexities...?
Or how i spend way too much time looking at, or thinking about, photos of Adam Driver and Kylo Ren.....which leads to more messed up sleeping habits....?
    Talk about a 'awakening'......

The lightsaber Rey and Finn use against Kylo in Force Awakens is Anakin Skywalker's. He constructed it during the Clone Wars (sometime between Episodes II and III). Obi-Wan picked up the lightsaber after he defeated Anakin on Mustafar. Obi-Wan then gave the lightsaber to Luke in Episode IV - kind of like an heirloom. Luke carries the lightsaber throughout Episode V, but then loses it when Vader cuts off his hand during their duel in the depths of the Cloud City. How Maz came across it is beyond me. Obi-Wan's lightsaber is completely different. The last time we saw that one was when he fought Vader on the Death Star in Episode IV.

Kylo Ren's 8-Pack Ha, he's almost dressed like Kylo on that photo with the baby that you posted. [face_love]

Diddy Minty Hero/villain romances are big in Asian legends. As are cousin marriages. It's only Hollywood that's slow to catch up but the rest of the world had it for billion years. So no wonder that movie's breaking records.

    Armadeus THANK YOU! =D=

I don't understand the seeming obsession in Star Wars with limbs being chopped off. Why would doing that again be a good idea or add meaning to the character and his design?

    Hmmmm,
I can see Kylo slaughtering some of the KOR but I highly doubt Luke will die in this trilogy. I think JJ is probably happy Mark and Carrie are healthy and wanting to film. They already killed off Han. Luke was hidden away for most of the first movie.

I can also see Kylo taking Rey off somewhere. Rey getting injured and him taking her away to safety. Naboo is interesting- isn't that where Anakin and Padme fell in love? [/SPOILER\

I'm with you AnneNeville I don't want Kylo/Ben to have any robotic parts!

If, as we hope, he is heading for redemption, I don't want him to go the route of becoming "more machine than man," as Obi-Wan described Darth Vader. It would be much better if he stopped trying to make himself into an emotionless machine and made his way back towards embracing the man at his core; Ben Solo. He won't be free of what he's done and he will always have that scar to remind him, but I think anything else would take away from his fallible human state.

ETA - The loss of limbs for Anakin through to Vader and Luke made narrative as well as visual storytelling sense, so Luke could see he was headed down the same dark path as his father. When he cut off Vader's hand in RotJ and saw his own robotic hand, it was his realisation of where he was headed that saved him from crossing over that line.

he posted beginning, end and now one of the scenes in the middle. End is my favorite cause it has demonic possession (Snoke posseses Rey [face_laugh]). well, at least some creativity.

Yes, Kylo saving her life would help and perhaps she finds out something else about him that makes her compassionate towards him. But I agree, I don't see Stockholm Syndrome so much as her giving in to the Dark for a bit since she has had it pull at her.

ReyofLightSide What's up with that data card? I hear about that but just don't get it. I thought that Resistance got their intel when FO started to charge the weapon. Chronologically in the movie, FO begins to charge the weapon, then we go back to the resistance where Leia receives the news that weapon is charging. So basically they saw what was happening.

I wouldn't say it's an obsession, just an expectation people have for Skywalker men. It's practically an on-going joke at this point. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that Ren is hiding a mechanical hand under all those black arm-bandages. We wouldn't know right now. He's extremely physically guarded, covering even his neck. His layers of clothing serve the same purpose as his mask. It's all a shield. No way he's losing the arm in the time-line of the movie itself. Chances are it's already gone, and has been since the day he betrayed his family.

I don't think Ren having a fake arm is a good idea or a bad one. I'm just acknowledging the fact that despite undergoing dozens of changes throughout development, Ren's mechanical right (saber) arm never vanished. I can see it being a great addition to Ren's design, as a lot of people are currently failing to acknowledge Ren as a Skywalker. If it was the third to fall victim to that iconic Skywalker loss-of-limb, it would be a nice way of physically linking Ren to his uncle and grandfather.

As for adding meaning to Ren's character... well, it actually holds a great deal of significance if Luke was the one who disarmed him (awful pun, I apologize). The missing arm would serve as a highly symbolic representation of how Ben Solo was "severed" from his family. It ties in to an idea we discuss frequently here, that not just Snoke—but Han, Leia and Luke all played a role in sealing Ben Solo's fate. He is a broken soul, in pieces physically and mentally, just like the cracked crystal inside his saber. Speaking of sabers, Ren did say "that saber... it belongs to me" when he laid eyes on the Skywalker legacy weapon. He recognized it immediately. But how? The immediate suggestion is that he had seen the saber somewhere before. Chances it was in his possession as a child or teenager. It might even have been the weapon he used to slaughter Luke's students.
