What endings do people have in mind for this new trilogy? If Reylo happens the way we want it to.
My head canon is Ben and Rey eventually fall in love but can't be together.

I'd like to see Rey and Ren start a new Jedi order...together....as for romance, that could come in time....

It took me a long time to understand the appeal of the bridal carry. I've asked a couple times in this thread. All I saw was the monster movie. What people convinced me is that the monster who carries the damsel already has a villainous crush, so this scene has significance. There have been some detailed posts analyzing it. I agree, but it's true that the scene still doesn't have any special appeal to me.

But even for those who enjoy the dynamic of the scene, I think it has to do with the way the characters don't occupy one single role. Rey was shooting him ferociously a moment before. She's not an innocent, helpless damsel. Perhaps after their later exchanges, and the allusions to monster, his monster behaviour gets more interesting. I don't know, I still don't find the scene appealing, though I find it very interesting on how it recalls old monster movies.

Bringing back this post with excellent analysis of the bridal carry and how it relates to a monster.

Sorry if I goofed on that! I'm on a tablet, so I proably messed up! My apologies.[face_peace]

Can the link for the AD interview posted yesterday (?) repost or let me know what page it's on? The OP mentioned a smike when talking about Ren's fate in the movies. Thanks!

    Three things:

    - Kylo Ren / Ben Solo's redemption and reconciliation with his family

    - The connection between Kylo and Rey made them develop as more fleshed out characters, and that they reach their full potential. They'll later become Grey Jedi, finding the balance between light and dark.

    - Bittersweet ending, not a tragic one.

So how many years have to go by before this entire story is finished? Anyone know? Lol

I guess I'd want to see Rey falling to the darkside and Kylo bringing her back. I know I've said I didn't want that, but now I think it's more interesting. Perhaps it would have to do with her family. Once she finds the secret, she gets curious, gets angry... I don't know, I haven't seen anyone fall to the dark side for good reason. I always thought Anakin was super dumb. Anyways, imagine her past brings up a weakness in her, and Snoke sees the opportunity and brings her... Not sure about that, though. What I want

    - Rey and Kylo destroy Snoke and the FO. Kylo reconciles with his family.

    - Fighting the good fight together brings Rey and Kylo closer.

Mana .... I agree with your view....I would love the focus of the trilogy being Rey and Kylo learning light and dark side powers, founding a new order and at the end we are left with hints that they are a couple... with some good writing, I don't mind them exploring a wild romance either, but I'm not sure how they will pull it off.

Didn't Kylo suffer similar injuries after the fight with Rey as Satan did in Paradise Lost? (Leg and head)

I saw the original trilogy sometime in my early teen years while at camp. My family is not movie oriented, and definitely had no interest in Star Wars, so I didn't grow up around people who were invested in the SW universe. I remember being underwhelmed by the movies. I think I was just at a bad age to see them with no preparation. This was around 1994, and by then the effects and styling for the original movies looked dated. I was both too old for them and too young to understand more adult themes about redemption and relationships. They just didn't touch me.

I remember seeing at least one of the prequels with an ex, and thought they were sleek but dull. I cannot remember whether I saw the entirety of 2 or 3, but I did see them in part. Hubby encouraged me to rewatch A New Hope just before FA came out, and I did . . . but my response was once again "Meh," so we didn't watch ESB or RotJ.

I never read any EU materials, or touched a Star Wars toy, or attended a con.

My husband grew up with parents who were fans of the original movies, and they guided him into an appreciation of the OT, watching them with him when he was a child. I think that made a big difference in our perceptions of the SW universe. He considers the PT to be egregiously bad. He liked Force Awakens, but doesn't feel any need to go a second time. He's kind of bemused by my strong response to it.

The movie was easy for me to follow, since I knew enough about who the characters are from the OT and what they did (who the siblings are, the parents, the lovers, etc.). I wasn't unaware of the big plot twists from the original, or iconic lines like "I love you," and "I know." I guess I was just . . . uninvested in the franchise.

My mom knows less about SW than I do. She saw Force Awakens because I enjoyed it so much and wanted to do some lit-crit style chatting with her about it. She struggled a bit from not knowing the characters from the OT well (though I gave her a rundown). Now she's interested in seeing the original movies, which she hasn't had an interest in seeing in her entire life prior.

I have no idea of how long it would take, maybe this same story could continue through a new generation (which would be related to them) so it wouldn't really have an end. It would be their story, and the story of those who came before them as well...

I find it quite interesting. So the ST is bringing new people to the franchise!

But your thought process surprises me. Meeting someone who doesn't like Star Wars is like meeting people who don't like chocolate. Sure, I know people who don't like chocolate...

Perhaps your case is just that you didn't see the movies at the right age?
In my case, my mother liked Star Wars, and took me to the cinema to see Return of the Jedi. I spent months terrified of Darth Vader, but I was hooked.

As to TFA, I'm going to confess I felt it was a little flat. The only interesting thing in it is Kylo, and his dynamics with Rey. The rest was a walk through the beats and visual cues of the OT, not surprising, intriguing or touching enough to be memorable.

the bridal carry to me is a claim. this one is mine and it fits perfectly with kylo ren. it's a visceral and sexual claim and it's significant that it doesn't last long. he will never do that again.

but I loved it anyway. it's a very old-fashioned thing to do and it works amazingly.

I'd like Rey and Ben to flip the bird to the Jedi and the Sith or other DS organization that apes the Jedi and be trained FS who aren't affiliated with those highly political corrupt organisations. Like free-lance FSs who help those in need but don't really care about power tripping. They have MF so they can fly all over the space, explore uncharted territories, be whatever they want. especially since they have powers. belonging to one organization or another is limiting. They belong to each other. mean, if Ben gets exiled than that's perfect for exploring parts of the galaxy or new galaxy that hasn't been visited.

My story of getting into Star Wars is probably the oddest ever.

    I was in hospital. I was 15.
I had seen Star Wars vaguely. Probably glancing at it while my older brother looked at it or my dad.

So anyway I was in hospital, I had a very serious issue with my eye and while I was getting medication this sudden urge came over me to watch Star Wars as soon as possible! Out of no where!
The minute I was released from hospital I ran up the stairs to my room and put Star Wars on. I was also very ill and partially blind at the time. I'm ok now haha, but it's a really odd scenario.

I wonder if Kylo is so wrapped up because he already has torture scars courtesy Snoke and KOR? Normally getting someone to turn to the dark side involves torture, whipping, toxic injections, force lightning etc....all to make the person feel despair...... [face_worried]

I'm okay with battle/torture scars.... I hope they don't go down the chopping limbs route....that is too predictable.

I guess what is interesting perhaps is that it is so unexpected! We have never seen dark siders do this in Star Wars movies (or even TV that I remember). We were all (or most of us) watching the movie thinking they would be related, so the bridal carry, with the implicit crush, is surprising. Yes, I can see that.
I find the scene super interesting, and, again, I came to appreciate it a lot more after debating on this thread.

Yes, that is my theory. I was 14ish, so I was old enough for the movie to look dated and for it not to be particularly scary, but I was too young to appreciate the more adult themes of redemption and love.

You know I wondered if Kylo Ren lost a limb at the end of the final lightsaber duel, because we can see something falling on the snow; it may be a glove? Or a hand?

Oh God! I can totally see Kylo Ren showing Rey his scars!! Whenever they learn to have a chat normally without running amuck, it will be such a strong gesture. Imagine! But then, I hope he doesn't have loads of scars because that would be sad

The thing is, if half of the stuff we suspect turns out to be true - things like the Force bond, the Revan/Bastila hints, and so on - I don't think mere hints of a future romance would be enough. The two characters don't really have the kind of dynamic that would organically develop into a cute friendship with sparks flying and hints of potential romance. Too much water under the bridge for that. If Reylo happens at all, they've set up the potential for an epic romance with stakes as high as saving Ben Solo's soul and saving the entire galaxy along with it, and a yin/yang dynamic that has something mythical/elemental about it. I'd be disappointed if it developed into anything less than that. This would be the perfect opportunity to tell an incredible epic love story that grows organically out of the epic battle between good and evil that's already going on, instead of coming across as a shoehorned romantic subplot. That's a rare opportunity. It can be tragic or it can have a happy ending, but either way it's rare.

My prediction that the connection between them either happens with a bang, or it doesn't happen at all. Ren already came across as "ride or die" obsessive about it, and I can't imagine him toning it down to "we get along fine".

this is from Wikipedia regarding the spherical people with both sexes...

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symposium_(Plato) Plato wrote it.

    panki

I think that. ... I think the injuries he's sustained from fighting with rey and finn were far from his first.

    Force22

I guess it's unusual for star wars but also has become unusual elsewhere...? I can't remember the last time I've seen a full blown monster carrying a wee woman.

the more I talk about the film, just with my co-workers as well, the more I appreciate how simple and deep the imagery is that was used to convey the world of the characters. I think that's why it grabs me so easily.
