Foreign films can be great (usually not the ones made in my country though :D) it all depends.

I mean, if it wasn't for Akira Kurosawa we would have never of had Star Wars, so that clearly shows you that they matter a great deal.

I enjoy foreign films, Ezon! Though I haven't seen as many recently as I used to. Back when I was a student, they used to have "international film night" once a week on campus and I saw a lot of very interesting films. I'm always on the lookout for titles to add to my "to-watch" list, so thanks for the above suggestion.

One of my all-time favorite foreign films is this one:

It's quite sentimental, but I find most people I've recommended it to really like it. It has a gorgeous score by Ennio Morricone and features one of the most endearing child actors I think I've ever seen. It's a "film about film" and is really quite a "love letter" to the movies. Its ending is just...well...so lovely!

For something with quite a different tone, another one I really like is this 2006 German film:

It's set in 1980s East Germany and also has a memorable ending.

    Ciao for now!:p

    Hey gang!
I would be honored if I could join you.
    For awhile. I think.
Happy Leap day! Crazy for me, tough, but I made it.
Watching a history series called Filthy Cities on pbs.
    15th Century London
    Industrial New York 19th Century

    Disgusting!!!

    Thanks for the suggestions also.

Koksuz cannot be found to watch online and I had to download a torrent file and a subtitle software just to watch it. I can PM you on how to do it.

Koksuz is an amazing low budget film. I think you will like it as the main male character is similar to Anakin AOTC.

I'm a big fan of this Japanese movie:

I like a lot of foreign films, but that one just holds a special place in my heart. I think it's the scene with the food gangsters and the raw egg...

Pensivia I love love love The Lives of Others too!

Sounds interesting, Dags! I'm a huge PBS :-B(at least in spirit...don't often have time to watch enough of it!)

Ezon Pin--thanks, but I'm too wary of possible viruses/malware to go the torrents route. (Especially since I'm not very tech-savvy at all and I have to depend on my laptop for work use as I do a lot of my work from home.) I'm able to get a lot of foreign films (even "small" films) via my local library, so I'll try that route first. It'll have to sit on my "to-watch" list for a while anyway as I'm sure I won't be getting to it anytime soon...

Edit: wish I could stay and chat for a bit, but this was yet another pop-in...have a great night, everyone!

"Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" I guess would be a favorite of mine as far as foreign films.

Their is also Tropa de Elite and the sequel, (Elite Squad) a Brazilian film about Rio's special forces. Not fantastic, but certainly interesting.

It's more than I expected for a first BD release. Looks great. My copy of Super 8 on dvd has director commentary plus maybe 3 featurettes, 20-30 minutes total.
There will be numerous ST blu ray releases in the future, with even more extras.

Pensivia Bye bye, see ya later?

This is another film set in East Germany, and it's absolutely adorable. It's about a boy who has to recreate the communist era after the fall of the Berlin Wall for his mom.
