Yes he could. Not exactly like Kylo, but he learns from Luke that Luke has a sister, by reading his mind. (It is used as a counter argument to the mind-r stupid argument)

But Vader didn't read Leia's mind, and didn't learn where the rebel base was, or that she was his daughter. It is likely because she is strong in the force and could block him. I know this is retcon, because she wasn't strong in the force at first, but it makes sense and explains why Vader didn't sense the force in her. Remember Palpatine could mask his force and even his dark side, so it's possible. Leia was likely doing it unconsciously, trying to keep the information about the rebel base and the location of the plans for the Death Star.

 

Maybe he is more powerful. I believe he is. I don't think Snoke showed him new tricks but Snoke probably saw his massive potential and crashed down on him while he was vulnerable.

I think it's interesting Vader's power comes from being an empath, which is why i believe Kylo isn't quite Vader tier yet, Kylo can't fine tune his emotions into force power quite yet me thinks

I didn't know the world "amazed" appeared on the screen but I'm happy to see that many people read the scene like me, which means we are probably onto something.

 

Kylo's stopping of the laser bolt while casually talking is pretty impressive. His ability to extract precise information seems unpaired. Vader seemed to pick up fleeting thoughts, not be able to go for something precise.

C'mon, let's see a little bit more of Kylo and his fabulous entrance to meet Rey. He keeps his hood in place, he looks classy and regal, and he's just overall awesome.

 

Nah I believe Vader was the chosen one but Vaders grandson has screwed up some stuff within the Galaxy now and maybe Rey is being called by the saber to help the situation. Anakins saber.
Rey and Ben will fix the tragic love story of Anakin and Padme. At least that's what i believe

This post is EVERYTHING! Especially the bolded. I just want to add that the moment when she closes her eyes is very similar to Brobi Wan closing his eyes in ANH - which is where Vader takes the opportunity to strike him down...but Kylo doesn't. He trans-fixedly watches her beautiful face and calms down breathing in unison with her. I think that if she opened her eyes and called him to the Light he would have followed...but she went Dark instead.

OMG. He really hit the actor jackpot in terms of a changeable, arresting and expressive face.

 

We have the script. Here is the part where she is amazed:

He peers into her eyes intensely. She meets his gaze --
DESPITE THE PAIN SHE IS STRONG.
On Ren's face as HIS CONFIDENCE BEGINS TO MELT AWAY. He has
slammed up against a barrier in her mind. He looks less
certain by the moment as Rey seems to GROW IN STRENGTH. The

And they are also surprised:

Good points. I agree, it is almost like a "different type of royalty" - I think the point of the lost prince trope is really that an ordinary child is revealed as something extraordinary. It can be Harry Potter who lives in a broom cupboard and turns out to be from a wizard family. Or a scavenger who inherits a powerful Force sensitivity. Doesn't have to be royalty at all.

But I feel like something about Rey points to actual royalty. Especially her name, obviously...

King Prana interests me. I don't know if he's Rey's father or anything, but he might be connected to Rey in some other way - perhaps he was the one who usurped Rey's throne and her abandonment is a "Babes in the Wood" trope, i.e. a young heir is supposed to be killed but the assassin can't bring himself (or herself) to kill the child so he or she abandons the child in a dangerous place instead.

I would have thought King Prana is just a throwaway reference for world building, but I read some speculation that it might be Benicio's character because the name has a significant meaning in Star Wars terms:

MyOnlyHope, I agree that Dark Side origins would make a lot of sense. I confess I didn't think much of the Snoke theory at first, but if Snoke is human (of which I'm not yet sure), I think he might possibly be Rey's ancestor. Doesn't have to be a grandfather or anything. I think Snoke is probably literally an ancient being. Perhaps an ancient Dark Side user who has discovered the trick of immortality or surviving in spirit (but no, I don't think he's Plagueis ).

vaderito, TFA has made me dig up my LOTR soundtracks as well The Rohan theme, but also the music of Gondor and the Battle of Pelennor Fields. My imagination is soaring in epic stratospheres...

 

The Force is light and dark side, Kylo is light and dark... so... Ben will bring the balance to the Force... There are two personas in him.

Sforza Little_Boots Anakin was the chosen one...to spawn Ben! Interpretation of Chosen One is always very tricky. Just as you think it's one thing, it's actually another. I mean, I'm joking but didn't novelization say something about Ben being perfect balance of Light and Dark? It isn't in the movie so maybe they rejected it, but his powers are different from what we've seen so far. BTW, Vader wasn't capable of producing lightning bolts and neither is Ben thus far. Only Palpatine and Dooku produced lightning bolts. So I don't know if that's a special DS skill that only few can master or what? Even after 7 SW movies they never laid out strict rules of what one can do and why. So usage of this and that seems pretty arbitrary to me, on "cause it's cool" basis.

 

Re:fight scene discussion and Matt's Solo Cousin
I love you analysis. Especially about how she was amazed by what she learned about him in the interrogation and how she had a personal connection.
I'd like to add (hope this hasn't already been talked about) that when Kylo confronts them in the woods, Finn and Rey stop and Finn looks to Rey. Rey glances at Finn, but then looks right back at Kylo and steps forward first, before Finn. I think this shows how she is accepting the challenge to either talk to or fight Kylo. Finn seems to want nothing to do with him and be more afraid of him. Rey seems to have such a personal connection and also be very unafraid of him after just a short get-to-know-you interrogation. I think the way she steps forward first shows this.

Also the shot with the abyss is totally yin and yang. The snow around Ren is lit up and he is a black splotch while Rey is surrounded by shadows with her lit saber the light spot.

Yeah I've been rewatching the scene a lot...

 

He's described in the script as a tall, dark figure. I guess they didn't include handsome cause he still had his helmet on.
