ST The Romantic Future of Kylo Ren and Rey

When Oscar said that I interpreted that as meaning Reylo because it took me about 2 viewing to catch the romance also!

Hello everyone!! I'm a newbie so I dunno please be gentle I've been flitting through this thread - mainly because if I try to read the full 893 pages I think I'll be here all night!!!!

I brought into the Reylo theory more than any of the other 'romantic' theories because of the sizzling chemistry between Adam Driver and Daisy Ridley in all of the scenes that they're in together. I said it before on a different fantsite forum and basically got told I was some sort of ***king weirdo pervert for daring to suggest that there was chemistry between the actors/characters during the interrogation scene as he was so clearly abusing her!! Well, I've not been on that site since.

It really jumped off the screen more than Daisy's chemistry with any of the other men she appears on screen with. Yes, you can see chemistry between Rey and Finn - but that's more friendly IMHO - the way women are with their male friends or men are with their female friends. I did think Rey had some sizzle with Han and people can argue (even if from what I can understand it's been disputed??) that it's because she's his daughter - maybe the girl is just attracted to the Solo gene pool!!!!!

I know this has no doubt been voiced way before me, but there surely has to be a reason that the scenes between Rey and Kylo play out the way they do - directors are there to give direction of how they want something to be portrayed on screen - everything they do is deliberate?! If the Rey is a Solo thing has been debunked I've gotta say I'm pleased because it would be just far too odd for a Brother and Sister to give each other eyes like Rey and Kylo did - flirts - subtle or not! This is is not (my other love) ASOIAF/GoT.

I would even say that I think Daisy's best chemistry in the whole film (other than with BB-8 - but he's a Droid, come on!!) is with Adam and his is best with her (obviously!!) - just like Harrison Ford's best chemistry was with Carrie Fisher and Carrie with Harrison - it was believable sexual chemistry and attraction.

Oh the thing about how Rey is a strong independent female so why does she need to be bogged down with a romance storyline as it'll devalue her etc - didn't Katniss in The Hunger Games (a strong independent woman) have a long running romance SL with Peeta??? Didn't make her any less kick-ass or strong, it just made her human, because romance is a big part of people's lives on a daily basis.

Do I think that Kylo Ren is redeemable? Of course, why not?! Yes he killed his Father who just happened to be the legendary Han Solo - but lets not forget the rumour that Harrison Ford wanted Han Solo to be killed off at the end of the OT so settled for this, and it really pays to the whole storyline for the ST - makes everything that more dramatic.

Do I think Rey should be a major player in Kylo Ren's redemption - yes. While I think Leia might be the crux to bring Ben back, I think that Rey will be the draw - he fancies her, she intrigues him in the Force sense. He offered to be her teacher - but does that mean teach her within the FO and under the watchful eye of Snoke, or in a more independent way - defying Snoke?? So he clearly wants to be around her - people say creepy stalker (it is a bit), but she could have killed him at the end, but she didn't - there has to be a why and not just because 'that's not Rey' because we don't know who Rey really is!!

Okay, I know that I'm kinda repeating myself - but none of my friends are big Star Wars fans so they just tell me to shut up so it's nice to finally find a place where I feel I can express some views.

Quizzed about the possibility of on-screen romance, he said: ''No doubt, even if I already know I want to approach this project in a different way ... We're only in the initial stages [of making the film] and it's difficult to talk about it other than to say it's very exciting.''

I found the actual french article at one point, the question was will there be a love story? His answer kind of sounds weird, because the rest of his response sounds off to me. But maybe that's just me.

I also remember reading somewhere that JJ said something about this is a story about a girl and boy? And a little more. I wish I could find it...

I find it interesting that Daisy in the Ellen interview teases about romance, and then a few months later, likes a picture of reylo. She was like nah not really, but then of all the pics she could have liked, it's reylo? I'm not aware if she likes other pictures, maybe she does, but liking a reylo pic outright is a pretty gutsy move. There are so so many fan pics out there, a lot having nothing to do with romance.

Also did anyone see the cute valentine pic she put up awhile go on her instagram? Showed Kylo aka Ben in a better light lol.

So yeah, JJ wanted romance, and wanted it to be different.

As to Daisy liking pictures, I think she likes many different pictures, so I don't think that means a huge lot other than Rey and Kylo are probably not related and that Rey was not abused by Kylo.

Reylo =/= Phantom of the Opera because Kylo Ren is Han and Leia's son, the last Skywalker and the Legacy of 30-years worth of canon material. Also because Star Wars is a Trilogy series, and thus has the time to develop a complex redemption story. If Phantom of the Opera was a Trilogy, that would have been the case too.

I actually wasn't planning on addressing it at all, but if you want me to I guess I can?

 

FrolickingFizzgig Please do if it fits your essay and if you have time. Gothic Romance goggles need to come off when it comes to Reylo. They have some Gothic tropes but they are not Gothic in essence, not at all.

Ugh I'm so sick of the Gothic lit comparisons. They make no sense, honestly. They can be applied right until Kylo Ren removes his mask, but as soon as that happens the goggles need to come off because Ren is not the Creature From the Black Lagoon. He is Han Solo and Leia's son, and he is getting redeemed. Star Wars is a children's franchise. It is optimistic and extremely idealistic. It is not Phantom of the Opera. It is not Edward Scissorhands.

Speaking of the Dragon andd Phoenix symbol, I'm myself also an Asian so I have learn quite something about Asia Mythology and after reading about all this brilliant post, I remember something, I believe in Korea mythology, there's this Snake liked creature that in fact an Evil Dragon,powerful yet weak compared to the Good Dragon, so the Snake will try to do anything to keep the Good one from rising, watch Dragon War, that movie based on just that. So if we said Snoke is the Snake and Kylo as the Dragon that mean Snoke maybe scare of Kylo and his power so Snoke likely would do anything to keep Kylo under control as long as possible?

 

It would be very unlike JJ to not do romance. I loveddd what he did with Felicity and I never watched Alias, but from clips I saw, the main couple has ridiculous chemistry (Michael Vartan is hot loll). Both headstrong women with love interests to match. I feel like if he learned about Revan and Bastilla, he'd like that a lot lol.

 

Also, a phoenix is supposed to be a mythical bird that rises from its ashes after having been consumed by fire. ren leaves his mask, with a thud on ashes. Why? He is now in hell, like a demon, perhaps this means he will have to rise from the ashes?

Another question, why is that helmet of his so bloody heavy? How can he wear something so heavy on his head? It's as if he is holding the world's weight on his shoulders. This must have a symbolic meaning. The mission he has assigned himself is incredibly heavy and painful for him, he is so sad, so anguished. This weight must be related to his reasons to have joined and then stayed in the Dark Side, it's like a metaphor. The Dark doesn't give him pleasure, it's the opposite.

This may have nothing to do with him, but Titan Atlas was condemned to bear that weight on his shoulders as a punishment. That heavy helmet is a metaphor of too much weight for a man to bear. I wonder what Kylo is determined to finish, what his gradfather started and he feels obligued to finish no matter what.

I have the feeling his life is like a sacrifice at this point and he has given up his soul for a cause he thinks just because there is no joy in him for being in the Dark Side. Why then?

 

Sylvia Snow You are definitely onto something because Snoke delayed Kylo's training completion for long time. And we see that Kylo has some unprecedented powers (strong telepathy, strong telekinesis like no other) even though he is only partially trained. So that appears like Snoke is afraid of him. Question is, what made Snoke change his mind and decide that Kylo should complete his training that Snoke denied him for so long?

 

Maybe JJ did in fact know about Revan and Bastilla, I mean when you compare Revan and Kylo pictures, their masks look kind of similar to each other, many people did thought Kylo was Revan when the first trailer came out when we did not know his name yet.

 

Maybe he told him he would complete it only if he took the final plunge and kill his father. Who knows
