ST The Romantic Future of Kylo Ren and Rey

I thought Obi Wan Kenobi had a thing for Satine, and even said to her that he would have left the jedi order for her, I'm not familiar with the Clone Wars series...but considering that, he wasn't completely devoted to the jedi order

I simply can't understand the arguments that Rey Kenobi, Rey Random or any other option that isn't Rey Skywalker will require too much explanation. Luke Skywalker has no love interests in the OT so any romance would be all exposition. Then there is the whole business of Rey's abandonment on Jakku. By the time we've heard the love story of Mr. and Mrs. Luke Skywalker and got a convincing explanation as to why a five-year-old girl was left on a desert planet with a junk dealer of dubious intent (it is insinuated Unkar Plutt has less than pure thoughts about Rey in the novel) that doesn't make Luke come off as the worse father in galactic history, the end credits will be rolling!

Ray "Random" is probably the easiest option as it requires the least amount of retconning and exposition. I also think people should be wary of Colin Trevorrow's promise that Rey's parentage reveal will be "profoundly satisfying". For a start, you will never be able to please everyone, and there will no doubt be a backlash come what may.

I get what you are saying and I understand why it would need a lot of explanation to hardcore star wars fans

I wouldn't mind though and other people don't need big explanations. I just feel that the prequels went in to too much explanation about things and they now know that it spells poison for the Star Wars franchise if they repeat these mistakes again with this trilogy. I just feel like the general audience don't need big explanations to enjoy a film.

Obi-Wan definitely had a thing (romantic love) for Satine. She also loved him. It is canon. I really recommend TCW if you haven't watched it.

 

Rey actually in my few represents nearly every one of the main characters from the original. She is like Han in ways, she is like Luke in ways, she is like Leia, she is like Obi-Wan, she is like Palpatine, she is like Anakin..... She is literally everyone combined into one person. It's so hard to decipher who she is related to at this point because she is like all of them.
However nothing in the film to me suggests she is connected with the Skywalkers at all. I dunno what to think about the Obi-Wan theory now to be honest. He was from the past yet Maz said the longing is ahead, so maybe Rey random is more likely, however if she is related to Obi-Wan I would be happy with that but at the end of the day. It's not about what I want.

I love this! I have been talking about Kylo/Ben having visions. Who said Snoke didn't see the vision of this Skywalker-Solo child being the one to destroy him and his goals? I suppose Snoke could have just killed him, but maybe the vision would be more complex than that. Maybe because Kylo/Ben is dark and light, that Kylo/Ben could go either way, support his empire or destroy it. And if there is something in Snoke's goals that might require Kylo/Ben somewhere, what better way to keep him on a leash than manipulate him into turning his back on all his support system and becoming dependent?

There is one scene in one of the future films I would really really love to see and that's Leia hugging Kylo/Ben - why?? Because she's so diddy and he's so tall and I think it would just be a total awwwwww moment (well for us Reylo shippers at least) - plus my bro is 6'3 like Adam and my Mum is 5'2 (close enough to Carrie's height) and when they hug it's kinda cute.

 

The same way Obi Wan told Luke about his "father" & Darth Vader"

 

If you search "Star Wars the Force Awakens AMV" on YouTube with the setting of "most popular", I'm pretty sure the first actual TFA video to come up is a ReyxKylo Ren one. I'd say YouTube is a better indicator of what is most popular, since most GA people use it.

 

Your first point. They have not announced an OB1 movie yet. And why would people not be interested? He is one of the best character in Star Wars. If you head over to the anthology forum you can see some great idea's for an OB1 movie. My personally fav idea is OB1 taking on the Hutts and trying to free a large number of slaves [because slavery still existed on Tatooine].
Your second point. I do not think she is Luke's. Purely because the studio would be a little foolish to disappoint the Reylo fans. I know they have converted me! I can definatly see these 2 get together thanks to the well written and thought out posts on this thread. More than likely her parents have yet to be introduced. But it is difficult to explain how she is so powerful with the force without her being a decendant of a powerful Jedi. I understand your OB1 belief. I am just trying to say that in the context of the story so far it would not make sense because there is nothing to suggest that OB1 had a lover.My own idea is Snoke created her using his dark power. To be as powerful as possible.This happened about 20 years before TFA. Luke found Snoke and this girl. He gives Snoke a crazy beating! It should have killed him. He takes the girl but is unable to kill her. He wipes her memory and plants a new one: That her parents left her there and she must wait for them there. I know that we have seen a hero with a dark father before. The difference here is that she fears she is obliged to destroy the Jedi. She fears what her future will bring. And she is angry with Luke for putting lies in her head. There would be an interesting dynamic there. I think Luke would have to acknowledge he did wrong.So luke has to make it up to her and be the father she neer had. Anyway that is my idea. I want her family to be explained in this movie trilogy .

 

That idea just seems to be very confusing, very Matrix style which isn't what Star Wars is known for. At the core of Star Wars it's very simplistic.
I'm sure Reys origins will be explained simpler. Rey has to have some idea of who she is, if her mind was whipped she wouldn't be waiting for her family to come back because her mind would have been whipped so there is no family to come back. In her head at least.

I don't know if anyone can provide numbers. There is only the popularity of threads like this, the number of Tumblr Reylo accounts, YouTube views for Reylo stuff, Reylo fanfiction (which is the most popular heterosexual ship on AO3 - not sure about Fanfiction.net) and such to gauge an idea of how many people ship Reylo.

 

Fair enough. But in my opinion the story is the episodes are telling the main story. Imagine reading a book and midway through you have to put it down to read ANOTHER book to explain things in the first book. There is nothing to suggest, from the first 7 episodes to suggest OB1 had a lover/child so saying hed did would be confusing for people following the Star Wars story through the movies. It would actually retcon a fair bit of the PT because jedi love was forbidden and OB1 was a true jedi knight.

Yeah it is jut my idea. Luke would have planted the memory of her family in her mind for 2 reasons. 1: Because he did not want to kill her 2: Because he did not want her leaving Jakku for any reason.

It's honestly hard to know. It seems people all over the world were intrigued by Kylo Ren and Rey's dynamic in TFA. Reylo dominates YouTube's array of TFA shipping videos. It's also the only TFA ship with its own Twitter tag. I'm sure a good portion of the general audience noticed Ren and Rey's unusual connection (the bridal carry/Kylo's removal of his mask weren't exactly subtle), but simply wrote it off because it conflicts with Rey Skywalker. The ship has also garnered an unprecedented amount of hate (on Tumblr mostly). Haters can deny the truth of what Star Wars represents as a franchise all they want. Kylo Ren isn't just some superficial villain. He's Han and Leia's son, the legacy of six Star Wars movies, and quite possibly the last Skywalker. He's clearly slated for redemption. Given how TFA positioned its characters to develop, some version of Reylo is happening. We just can't know if Reylo is going to wind up being familial, platonic (teacher/student), or romantic. Only time will tell.

 

Like a Greek tragedy with a prophecy, the person who hears the prophecy of their death actually makes the prophecy come true by trying to stop it from happening
