For me, I would buy that Obi-Wan had a child more than I would Luke. Mainly because there was really no Jedi order left when Obi-wan lived on Tattooine.

Both Luke & Obi Wan deserve a legacy in future ST films. Hopefully Luke has adult kids we have not met yet, or maybe Finn is his kid. But Rey is a Kenobi.

I agree with that...I'm not fully convinced yet that we'll see a main character as a descendant of Mace Windu...I just thought he was a character that should have had more story....considering he was the jedi who almost killed Palpatine (if Annakin hadn't intervened)

    And as a comparison:

    FinnRey
    - 28 FinnRey fics on AO3
    - 31 FinnRey artworks on Deviantart
    - Not sure
    - Again, not sure
    - Most viewed FinnRey YouTube video has ~20,000 views

    As for StormPilot:
    - 505 under StormPilot + 62 under FinnPoe fics on AO3
    - 177 artworks on Deviantart
    - Not sure
    - Again, not sure
    - Most viewed StormPilot YouTube video has ~52,000 views

Hopefully I'm counting right. Fanfiction isn't really my thing, so I don't really know how AO3 works. I would have expected StormPilot to have a lot for fics.

Ha! Alright, I'll take your challenge Mana ;). I did read this a while back and thought it was very interesting (you've probably already read it): http://littlebird92.tumblr.com/post/138560774804/the-inherent-eroticism-of-reylo

It made me see that Kylo Ren at least has an attraction to Rey when I next went to see the movie, as well as see their relationship in a slightly different way. Now that I've said that, you may as well be luring me to the dark side already! ;)

Welcome to the thread! I guess I'll be your guide to Rey and Kylo Ren today. I'm also not a shipper, just a lover of great stories.

I'll tackle what you said about the writers "pushing" Finn and Rey first. Had the writers actually been pushing that potential trajectory, more people would be interested in its development, and that is a fact. The writers spent the entire movie basically doing everything in their power to characterize Rey and Finn and children chasing each other on the playground, as partners-in-crime, as friends. In storytelling, initial romantic tension is often created through a lack of intimacy, perhaps a little banter (see: Han and Leia). Any good writer knows this. And yet look at Finn and Rey. They met, they got along great, they became best buds, they touched each other all over with zero romantic chemistry, they saved each other, the end. That does not speak "pushing them romantically" to me, and clearly not to most other people. The writers pushed Finn and Rey, but as a friendship. There's a reason so many say Finn got "finnzoned" at the end of the film. When he returned for Rey on Starkiller Base he essentially became the family that never came back for her on Jakku.

Nobody in this thread would say that Finn and Rey can't happen. I just can't help but wonder why any writers would spend two movies digging themselves out of a hole they jumped into (see: friendzoning). It makes no sense. It isn't a story worth telling in a larger-than-life coming-of-age fairytale like Star Wars.

Just as the entire film stressed Rey and Ren's bond of friendship, it also positioned Rey and Kylo Ren to develop together. They are far from your typical hero and villain. That said, a Rey and Ren connection of any kind was either in the works from the start or it wasn't. Everything about The Force Awakens tells me it was, but the writers would absolutely not add it into the story. If Rey/Ren happens it will happen because it was always meant to happen.

I think Lena Dunham must be pretty short, because Adam Driver seems to tower over her, but it still seems okay. But Girls is a dramedy of course.

I definitely prefer Rey because of all the important symbolic and thematic elements that pairing provides. And Adam Driver and Daisy Ridley have great chemistry, but I too am a sucker for those unexpected pairings. That Some Kind of Wonderful pairing if anyone remembers that movie. Or As Good as it Gets with Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt. I also always wanted Harry Potter to end up with someone like Luna because I thought it would be fun, as opposed to the traditional Ginny pairing (which sadly, for me and my wishes, was telegraphed in HP from the first book <bg>). All those pairings deal with characters significantly lighter than Kylo Ren, so the comedic element in particularly the last two wouldn't work so well. (Though I have to say that I *loved* how they gave Ren some dark comedy. "A droid ... stole a freighter?") In his current incarnation, a Bronte romance suits him better, and Reylo fits that well. But with a somewhat lighter Kylo Ren, I think all kinds of things could work, including one with KMT. But as they have set it up now, Reylo is the best fit.

    Thorin Oakenshield

Well, I am kinda playing devil's advocate just to show that Obi-wan was a human with feelings after all so a possible SO or child is not out of the question, but here is an interesting find:

That Satine/Obi-wan looking spawn is Korkie Kryze- Satine's nephew. The funny thing is that we don't know exactly who his parents are, it isn't Bo-Katan (Satine's sister), I'm pretty sure they are never mentioned and Satine seems to be his guardian anyway. Jedi lovechild hidden in plain sight????

Edit: As far as I know the timing works out too, Obi-wan and Qui-gon protected Satine before the events of TPM, they actually fell in love many years earlier than TCW when they were both young adults (early 20s)

Type in Rey Star Wars and it should come up under Playlists. The picture is her looking sideways with her staff, and the time elapsed play bar is a lightsaber. Very legit.

If it weren't for that, I would totally like to see Kelly Marie Tran as Ren's love interest.

This actually stuck at the back of my mind upon knowing Kelly Marie Tran will have a role in SW VIII [face_plain]

The Jedi are not allowed to love, but:

Honestly, that whole "not allowed to love/form attachments" thing is just semantics. Anyone alive and breathing in proximity to other alive and breathing things forms attachments. (Heck, a thing doesn't have to be alive and breathing for one to form attachments with it. Remember Wilson the beach ball and Tom Hanks' character in Cast Away?)

Aside from that, in ANH Obi-Wan tells Luke "I once was a Jedi Knight, like your father" or something like that. That description entails that he doesn't self-identify as a Jedi anymore. The Jedi screwed up big time in how they managed Anakin. There is no one who was in a better position than Obi-Wan to appreciate that, and it would be strange if he hadn't walked away from the whole thing being at least a little bit disillusioned. That could have made him reconsider his stance. This is all just speculation, but honestly a lot could have happened in Ben Kenobi's life between the PT and the OT, and renouncing the stale philosophy of the Jedi Council is only one example.
