Thank you to everyone for their words of encouragement to continue voicing my opinion :) and reminding me that my opinion is as valid as everyone else's on here :)

Kylo Ren/Ben Solo kinda reminds me of this other literary/film character who suffers greatly with an internal battle between good and bad/light and dark and while in the end Smeagol is totally seduced by the bad/dark becoming only Gollum, we all hope that the good/Light within Kylo and Ben Solo wins through - of course he's already teetering on the brink with his inner turmoil.

Kylo Ren/Ben Solo reminds me of Smeagol/Gollum because they're both conflicted - desperate to be rid of the side they view as weaker (incidentally the good/Light side of them). They both serve as guides to the hero/heroine. Smeagol/Gollum works as a physical guide to Frodo - escorting him on his journey to Mordor and slowly poisons his mind (even over Sam!!![face_shame_on_you]) And while we've not seen the full influence of Kylo/Ben's guidance on Rey yet, but he was instrumental in the awakening of the Force within Rey.

Of course I'm not saying that Kylo Ren/Ben is Smeagol/Gollum - just the issue with internal conflict between good and bad/right and wrong/Light and Dark and their key presence in the hero/heroine's journey is similar to me. Nor am I claiming that TFA parallels or is comparable to The Lord of the Rings apart from their overall story of Good vs Evil.

Penny Crayon Kylo and Gollum use the same device to externalize their conflict, namely, talking to an inanimate object. They feel pull of dark/light so they express that in several ways including talking to the ring/Vader's helmet. Both objects are considered to have hypnotic power over the one who has them. It's Object Possesses the Owner, Object Rules the Owner. One Ring to Rule Them All. One Helmet to Rule Then All.

However, as pointed out in another post, the key to Kylo's duality will be his scar going forward. here's the link that shows that Almost Yin Yang curve:

    http://41.media.tumblr.com/55804d1ba284587dd8b487aea2b594c5/tumblr_inline_o057423I4x1rtzcci_250.png

    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CXzcFRJUoAEjrqZ.jpg

As you can see, it doesn't go straight from his forehead down to his cheek but it curves slightly, not as obvious as this:

but it definitely isn't a straight cut. However, it gives him One Dark, One Light Face. You wouldn't be able to see scarred part when he turns unscarred profile and vice versa. Light and Dark. Also, his face isn't hateful at that moment, unlike:

    He's burning with hate

And then real flames burn him symbolizing consumption by hate

However, the difference between ROTS and TFA is because Anakin lost Padme (hence hate in place where love have been) while Kylo found Rey (hence no hate where it should have been). Anakin loses his love literally (she doesn't want to be with him, may be dead) while Kylo falls in love

    http://36.media.tumblr.com/280810e3c04f338d445d070a65d1b6c5/tumblr_inline_o224wtUL1x1t2vkfr_500.png

Rey and Kylo are reverse Anidala. It's as if Anakin fell in love not when he was an innocent kid but at his darkest moment. Twist of twists.

I posted this on Rumors thread but I'm posting modified version with Sforza report here:

It seems to me, based on rumors, that several characters will be sole leads in their plots until they all reunite somehow or some of them:

Rey is on Ahcho-To with Luke
Kylo is with Snoke somewhere (Pinewood studio? Iceland? Mexican cave? ????)
Poe is on a space ship with Dern. They clash.
Leia is receiving medical attention (if Dern isn't lying)
Finn and KMT are on the space horse in Dubrovnik (where Luke and Rey may also be but not on the horse :))

    other stuff of interest:

Rey feels conflicted about someone? Person she may be conflicted about is directed to look at the stars. It's a young man with a helmet.
As per Pablo, when Kylo flies a ship (not specified which or when) we'll be the judge of his skill
As per Pablo, they are working on Ben Solo's backstory (may not be revealed in VIII but they are working on it, Pablo said "we just started" or something)

Poe and Dern plot seems to resemble Hux and Kylo - there's a power struggle among Resistance power players. Dern character may be some opposition to Leia or at least her command of the ship clashes with that of Leia's supporter Poe. This part of the movie sounds like 12 O'Clock High where Dern resembles Gregory Peck's more stern character while Poe is the one that has great attachment to his crew.

Omg can you imagine Kylo Ren just casually sliding on a pair of glasses just like those to read on his holobook while he kicks back in his room after a long day of destroying Resistance scum? If they included a little detail like that in the film I wouldn't survive... AD in glasses is my ultimate weakness! :p

If getting branded by a lightsaber damaged his vision in one or both eyes he could technically get glasses.

Logically I would say it might be safe to combine Poe/Leia/Dern's plot with Finn/Tran's, because there's no way Poe and Finn aren't going to spend quality time together in this movie. Plus Tran's character appeared to be wearing Resistance clothing.

As for Rey/Luke, Ren/Snoke, they've obviously been positioned to remain separate from everybody else, at least for a while.

I just want to share that I'm home for spring break and my mother and I went to pick up my sister from the air port. We were listening to the sound track on the way, so we got to talking about Star Wars.
My mom was pretty sure that he would be redeemed, but "had to be matyred somehow." I presented some reasons why he didn't have to die, many that have been discussed in this thread. She agreed that it is possible and realized it would make for a better story if he wasn't. :)
Then my sister got into the car and we continued talking. When I casually mentioned "a lot of people online think he'll be redeemed" she was like "oh yeah, NO question. It's so obvious." They both also remarked on his relationship with Hux, how Hux always seemed to come out successful while Ren failed. It's because Ren is bad at being bad. He's a lousy, bad guy (which means he belongs on the light )
I like to share this because I feel like they are a good sampling of the general audience. My family has always been a huge Star Wars family, but I'm the only one that goes on tumblr, this thread, reads metas, etc. I'd say they are more general audience because they understand SW, love it, but don't necessarily pursue it further than that. They don't have a bias either way, for or against things like redemption.

Hearing that both of them believe his redemption is inevitable is encouraging to me. I highly regard their thoughts because they are unbiased and not immersed in it daily. So whenever we think we're overanalyzing things or that everyone is against redeemed Ben, it's sometimes nice to step away and ask a casual fan what they think. They pick up more than we think.

I don't know how reliable this information is but according to this site:http://sw7x7.com/episode-585-the-breakup-of-leia-han-and-benkylo-ren/ Luke has been gone for 4 years by the time the events in Bloodline happens so Kylo would have been 19 and Rey 9 when that happened. If that's the case then in TFA happens Luke would have been gone for 10 years:

And interestingly, this happens in the time period when Luke has already disappeared, and he’s been gone four years at the start of the novel. Might we learn something about what went down at the fledgling Jedi Academy? Only time will tell … we’ve got until May 3, so hang in there!

If Kylo was 19 when the Jedi Massacre happened it would yet again drawn another parallel between him and Fey.Rey started her journey at 19 while Kylo fell to the Dark Side at the same age.

I was thinking how they would combine Poe and Finn to work together considering that Finn's a foot soldier and Poe is an X Wing pilot (means no passenger seat in his ship). But now that Poe is on a bigger space ship (that likely carries X Wings, like Galactica) than Finn, Tran, etc could be on it at some point before drop in Dubrovnik. In fact, one stand-in looked very similar to Oscar Isaac so Finn and Tran for sure, Luke and Rey likely, Poe possibly are finding themselves in Dubrovnik. if that's the case, that more characters are reunited there than those scenes are likely from middle of the movie or last third.

And than we have that mysterious star gazer from the same city. Who may be from a flashback. If flashback is from the same city than Rey is in Dubrovnik too, as Chloe's presence indicated. Though not in space horse scene.

And then we have rumors that Adam, Daisy and maybe Mark will film in Ireland in April. Ireland standing in for Ahch-To only or more than one planet?

And MakingStarWars report from June that interrogation will have ramifications in VIII. Suppose Kylo figures out that island in the ocean is THE island in the ocean where Luke is?

And that Jurassic Park concept art of Kira and Jedi Killer in Jedi Temple. We know that Luke is looking for the first Jedi Temple. I cannot imagine Kylo not going there if Luke and Rey find it. It's the place where Light and dark will have to meet.

Plus Knights of Ren. Supposedly change that Rian asked to be made in Rey's vision is concerning Knights. One or some of them could be women/woman if that has any importance outside of gender equality.

he's going to be redeemed because in his darkest hour 2 things happened - Han showed Kylo that he loved him and forgave him and Kylo fell in love with Rey. So love pierced the darkness. His vow not to be seduced by the Light failed miserably. At the end of ROTS, love died except for Padme's words that there's still good in Anakin...but we had to wait 20 years or so for that. We won't have to wait that long with Kylo.

Sforza Thanks for clarifying where Luke and Rey were...and for Forcetastic coffee!

I just noticed that the age of 19 seems to be very important for main characters in the trilogies...something life changing and devastating happens to them at that time....

    1. Annakin was 19 when his mother was murdered and he begins his descent to the dark side, married Padme and gets closer to Palpatine.
    2. Luke was 19 when his foster parents are also brutally murdered by the Imperials, after which he accompanies Obiwan to rescue Leia.
    3. Ben Solo is accused of killing Luke's jedi students when he is 19 years old, Luke disappears and Ben Solo goes to Snoke and the FO. (I say accused because we are yet to find out exactly happened)

So Palpatine, Obiwan and Snoke take on a parental role for each 19 year old after the bad event, for good or for bad. (Poor Obiwan....what bad company to keep :p )

I am not including Rey because in this because Han's death (which is the closest matching traumatic event) happens later in the story and doesn't drive her to join the resistance...she had already long started her journey and had picked a side i.e. anti-FO. Also, she is not a Skywalker.... ;)

Very true this! I myself live in Dublin and am torn as I'd love to go, but I don't drive and this could be a huge obstacle here, because I'm assuming that the locations where they are shooting might be far away from the cities. Besides unlike Dubrovnik here it could be a case of them making sure it's impossible to see anything, much easier to do if you are filming in a remote location with miles of nothing, but the green grass or the sea. Still, does anyone have exact locations and dates that were confirmed? If I find that the place is easy enough to get to and I have some free time, I might decide to go on impulse.

So Luke Browalker HAS the dark side....dating an older woman....but isn't she a little too old for you?
And I gotta ask...how would that have worked out if she dies before you were born?
If you consider what Lubroka....Lutano? have against them ReyLo ship is a walk in the park :D

But seriously, I think you mentioned that it would be the ultimate irony if Finn was Luke's son....I kinda think that that would be a step back for ReyLo...because then Ben Solo would not be the Last Skywalker, and he wouldn't be necessary for keeping the line...wouldn't that mean that they could easily kill him off?
Please Luke, say that you are not his father :) even if it is a broiler :)

Actually, this makes me think of how they almost made Snoke into a woman. Even if she was totally unattractive, that still would have opened the door for all kinds of subtext, a lot of it sexual, especially given how attractive Kylo/Ben is. Whoaaaa... the mind spins in all kinds of directions, not all family friendly, particularly if she was attractive. Then when he meets Rey a tainted relationship (another version of thrall there) versus a chance at pure love triangle thing would have happened. That's nit actually a bad story, but it would have a lot more sexual subtext than people making Star Wars would want to deal with. No wonder Snoke became a man.

That's very true. One thing that's confusing me though is if Ben joins FO at the age of 19 presumably after the American massacre since Luke has already disparaged how come Ha and Leia haven't separated yet?Maybe they haven't learned the truth yet?
I also can't believe some people are still going with the Like had a premonition so he sent his daughter away to save her from the influence of her evil cousin/Snoke...but he didn't see end his other students away or try to protect them?No offense(it probably makes sense to some fans) but that doesn't make a whole lot of sense at least to me. Also how would he know for certain Snoke won't use his telepathic abilities to talk to little Rey like he had with Ben especially if she's also mind whipped leaving her even more defenseless. If Luke knew about Ben's abandonment issues with his parents wouldn't he not want to for his daughter to stay with him at all costs considering how a sense of abandonment was one of the main reasons Ben became an an easy pray to Snoke. And it also would paint Luke in a horrible light if he has spent 10 years searching for the Jedi temple instead of looking for his daughter.

I was thinking about the exact same thing today! It could have been done beautifully in my opinion, especially if Snoke was a character more akin to the White Witch from the C.S. Lewis franchise. I think it would have made for a much more interesting dynamic actually, and it would have given a whole new meaning to being "seduced" by the Darkness. Female Snoke would have maintained the same methods, sneaking into young Ben's mind, corrupting him and poisoning his view of his family, but there would have been some undeniable subtext, just as there was between Edmund and the White Witch. I don't think it would have been inappropriate, just different. She would have taken the role of a mother-figure, very Oedipus Rex.

BrehaSolo All theories and predictions that aren't born out of what's in the movie but out of bias (positive or negative) won't make sense. Luke the child dumper is a terrible character yet all those who say "I want Luke to be happy and have family" as if he couldn't be happy without it - Jedi students were his spiritual children - don't seem to realize that child dumping isn't a happy occasion and therefore, no, he is not happy. Nor he's a good parent. So Rey the dumped daughter, no matter what reason for dumping was, is character assassination for Luke. He can't look good. same if he had an affair and didn't know about the child. That's not Luke. That isn't even character development. That's tabloid sensationalism. Luke isn't perfect but this is pushing it. And it would come on top of already controversial "Han and Leia are good people and flawed parents" premise that was already tackled in TFA and novelization but JJ and even virtual reality video game Tatooine Trails confirm. So that would be too many failed parents. Luke is no parent. It doesn't make sense that he is. Han and Leia failed as parents (her words) and Luke failed as a teacher. That's all.

Moreover, some fans of Rey or Finn or both like to point out that those characters are heroes, yet forget one fundamental thing about heroes - hero would never kill Han and Leia's son who was lured away from them by a sinister dark shadow that poisoned his childhood. That's not what heroes do to villains who got that way cause they were suffering children. And if Rey and Finn are real heroes like their fans claim than their fans got it all wrong when they imagine scenarios where Jedi Goddess and Jedi God slay the last Solo. That's not what Han wanted and those characters have affection for Han and they are heroes. There will be no slaying.
