For your comparison, here is a computer-manipulated image to portray the height of real Snoke in comparison to Kylo

All for the hologram. There was plenty of similar work that went into creating the Palpatine hologram in ESB.

I bet that, in the spirit of rhyming, Snoke will get a first name in 20 years.

I think that's a great design. I see Snoke how I view the Emperor in ESB. Mysterious and I want to know more. I think the CG will improve as well. I don't think the hologram effect helps and I also suspect they didn't quite have enough time to really nail it 100%/. I think when we see him in episode 8 he'll look better.

Still think Snoke is a un-inspired design... I hope in ep8 they can do something with his character that makes him really interesting, which will help over come the un-inspired design... but right now as there's nothing to his character other than generic bad guy over-seeing things he just comes across as meh IMO.. to the point I'd actually like to see Kylo over throw him and kill him in ep8 as he actually is interesting..

I disagree. While we still know little about him, the fact that Han and Leia seem to have a personal knowledge of him has me very curious about how and why. As to his design, when I read about why they went with what they did, it makes a lot of sense. His look is a history of his character.

I like Snoke's design, too. Actually, he reminds me a lot of Yoda. I don't mean that I think he looks like Yoda - there isn't the least bit of physical resemblance - but it's something about the eyes, I think. They've a huge amount of character to them. I can see deep wells of wisdom in there, but there also seems to be something like sadness, or perhaps weariness maybe? Actually, the eyes are one of the key features that make me think he is extremely old.

I really think they've done a great job on him, and invested so much character, where the temptation might otherwise have been to make him as frightening, or physically threatening as possible.

The thing is, though, Snoke's face doesn't actually look like that in the film. He looks slightly more youthful and less decrepit.

I think that's actually an old photo that was leaked only recently- The sculpture looks exactly the same as this bust that was in The Art of The Force Awakens book.

Unless, for some reason, Snoke does something strenuous that makes him look older? I just find it strange that they would use one that looks the same as (or is) the conceptual work.

I like the sculpture better than the cgi version..maybe it's because of the hologram texture? I hope they'll improve that in ep8 when or if we see him for real. As for his design i found it quite generic at first but when you ditch the holo effect and the darkness you see all the weird details of his deformed/wounded face and body...it's quite fascinating actually and doesnt look unlike this wonderful sculpture!

I felt they kept him shrouded in TFA for the most part, hopefully so they can explain more about him and his backstory in VIII. I also feel TFA wanted to focus on Kylo as the baddie for that movie.

dude an old woman with chimp eyes is what Palpatine looks like and Clive Revill is Palpatine's voice.
    That's exactly my point.

I think it's the hologram texture and possibly the design being finished fairly late in the day. With more time to nail the CG and him being in the room, I think it should be better than it was in TFA (which I still like enough).

call me crazy but i feel like snoke is some sort of weird galactic empire experiment from the past. my longwinded, "if i was the writer from here out" theory is that snoke is just a clone of luke's hand that he lost in the fight to vader. it's just that he's underdeveloped, or something. there's some reason he's mutated looking. the reason i think snoke is clone luke's hand (lmao) is because they've failed to explain how luke's lightsaber came back into play, luke's hand now is just straight mechanical (not that that has anything directly to do with the story, i just think it's foreshadowing or could be used as such), snoke's ESB-esque placement within TFA (just like Palpatine), also Kylo Ren's willingness to listen to Snoke (it's really luke anyways, just dark side, weird clone version). i feel like these next sequels are really focused on artifacts considering the addition of the church of the jedi. and, with all that, looking for the temple, finding luke's lightsaber from bespin (maybe), vader's skull still being around.

"dude an old woman with chimp eyes is what Palpatine looks like and Clive Revill is Palpatine's voice."

your argument has no point. the design for snoke may change a little but it's not a placeholder like the esb emperor was.

and the snoke maquette is the design for snoke. it was tweaked in post but it's still the same design. it has more life in it, looks more like andy, the eyes are more visible, etc but it's the same design.

Well Snoke probably won't change since he is going to remain CGI unlike 1980 when they weren't 100% sure who would be Palpatine in ROTJ.

I'm still wondering why his eyes aren't red/yellow, since he's so strong with the dark side.

I really think Abrams should have dispensed with that overly fuzzy/ shadowy look to Snoke, and given us a much crisper hologram wherein he looked as sharp as he does above.
