it has nothing to do with the title. the sith were different and more powerful than just dark side users. that's a big point of the first six films and shows.

Right. But even the Emperor's and Maul's holograms have a sharpness to them which I prefer to the haziness of the Snoke one. That practical model of Snoke posted above looks fantastic. Much better than the above. So I just wish the aesthetic choice was a bit different, as Snoke is one of the few elements of TFA that doesn't work that well for me.

yes, i'm sure they'll fix that in ep8. It's just that i love the sculpture so much and i didn't realize it was the same design the first time i saw the movie. I'm sure they won't do the hologram thing next time, we'll have a real encounter with snoke and i can't wait to see it. He seems to be very tall, 8 or 9 feet if i remember correctly. This should be interesting. I also hope he has a cool backstory!! I'm intrigued by these talks of vulnerability and damages...this doesn't sound like another palpatine so i'm crossing my fingers on some cool stuff here...

if you watch the film closely you'll see it's the room that's hazy.

Well, Snoke might not be as tall as his hologram but apparently he is 7'0 in size. And him being a taller character than Kylo (...along with the Wookie) is pretty damn impressive.

Well, OK. That hazy filter wasn't a good aesthetic choice, IMO. Much prefer the harsh sharpness of the Emperor/ Vader image above.

No, I actually prefer the Snoke one myself. It looks more interesting than "blue crackly head."

Well if the hologram would've looked like palp's hologram people would've REALLY been crying foul that it's a rip-off by having a palpatine-like figure on a palpatine-like hologram...

Plus this just helps built up the mystery/cryptic nature of Snoke. Like why does he choose to make his hologram look 25 feet tall for example?

He's got that complex where everything has to be bigger and better than Palpatine's...

I like Snoke's look better in the film -- mainly because he looks more like Karloff's mummy.

I can see why people want to see him more clearly, but that's the point, I think. The image is meant to make the eyes strain for detail. It's meant to put up a roadblock. It resists,

The plan is to show him in more detail in 8/9, I'm sure.

Pretty sure it has to do with channeling the darkside or something. I don't think they are given yellow eyes as a Sith graduation gift or something.

Snoke reminds me of one of the engineers from Prometheus, except really emaciated and wounded. I also think the smoky hologram is to make him more mysterious, but I hope we see him in the flesh in Episode 8 and that his backstory is more unique than it currently seems.

Must say that as a "humanoid" - they have sculpted him pretty much in line with human anatomy (all that sterno-cleinoid musculature!!) - even to the point of giving him an umbilicus/belly-button (ie: he be some form of mammal??) .. other than the filmmakers telling us he ain't human .. is there any other actual feature that would suggest alien?

They actually said that he was a "humanoid alien." His face/head is shaped weird (and no, I'm talking about the wounds/scars) and his fingers are unusually long and boney. And supposedly his actual height is seven to eight feet tall (which isn't outside the realm of possibility for a human, but it is unusual).

Come on now, nobody takes someone else's word for anything to do with a GFFA. Even if they did make the movie.

It's just begging the question -- humanoid means an alien that can look very human. For people to keep questioning it just means they're unwilling to give up whatever pet theory it contradicts.

Call me crazy, but that isn't a bad idea to me. It would be pretty underwhelming, but if Snoke really was nothing more than a holocron, it would give credence to the idea that the first order really is just a terror group that worships the old Empire. Perhaps it was a holocron that Sidious used. Perhaps Snoke is an ancient Sith whose knowledge is in the holocron, and it contains an AI (like Jor-El in the Man of Steel).

Not saying that would be the best characterization for Snoke by a long shot, but also not as bad as it sounds on the surface.
