No, Savage's eyes were green prior to the transformation. In your picture Savage's eyes were just glowing in the dark like the eyes of all Zabraks. Please have a look to "Monster", TCW S. 3, where you can see pre-transformed Savage in the very daylight. His eyes are clearly green. Feral instead had orange eyes.

Sidious took him as an apprentice, unbeknownst to Plagueis. Either Sidious kills him to quell his uprising (re-uprising? Re-re-uprising?)or Vader does it to preserve the rule of two and rid himself of such an abomination. I'd like to see Maul perish at the hands of Vader, personally.

Maul is a thoroughbred Sith Apprentice and thus Sith Lord - that stuff with Plagueis never happened. And as such Darth Maul has proven time and time again too powerful for other Sith Lords or Jedi to kill, through power in the Force and prowess on and off the battlefield.

Dooku was given "Sith Eyes" very briefly when he was training Savage Opress to connect with his hate by electrocuting him back on Serreno, and mainly due to the animators preference to show he was a Sith Lord. Otherwise Dooku is never shown to appear with them so its not really a consistent thing . Lucas for whatever reason never bothered, one would've thought he would've gave him those eyes in AOTC after defeating both Anakin and Kenobi but no. When Palpatine his Sidious, under the hood TCW established he uses his "Sith eyes", Maul remains engulfed in the Dark Side thus why he always has "Sith Eyes". Vader's eyes was phasing in and out in ROTS until his transformation after he was chopped up and burned where he focused his hatred on Kenobi on Mustafar. Vos gets his Sith Eyes which establish he's true Sith Apprentice in Dark Disciple by his total Dark Side acceptance and power, and thats basically the difference between him and Dooku's past apprentice, Ventress.

Its unknown why Dooku did not get suspicious of Savage at first glance, since he already had "Sith Eyes" and he got them by being pumped full of Dark Side Force steroids by the Nightsisters and Mother Talzin. He was a near completely artificial creation, with just the strengths of a normal Nightbrother beforehand and possibly a very weak natural connection to the Force but its never elaborated on but just mainly speculation. The writers put in Savage's mouth that he was just a stand in, an acknowledgment that Maul was real deal while Savage was not. Thats the primary reason why Savage fell, he was not a worthy Sith Apprentice - however Maul loved him as a brother and trained him to be a powerful combatant to that point and Savage gave Sidious a good fight for what it was worth. Sidious had trouble fighting both brothers and later Maul. If Maul was not a cyborg and not still wanting to have been his Apprentice, Maul would've destroyed Sidious in a bout like Windu did. In SOD, Maul is a stronger opponent as his chains are broken and he's free of Sidious's control.

"I only lost when I followed you old Man"! Darth Maul , SOD

By Rebels Maul once again puts deception to good use, when he as the Jedi thinking he's a weak and old man, and by the time he reveals himself, he's right back to TCW days. In fact they gave Maul some of Yoda's dialogue he used on Luke on Dagobah in ESB and a very similar scene :

Maul: Please put your weapon away.
    I mean you no harm.

Yoda: Away put your weapon. I mean you no harm

Nope ... In the Darth Plagueis-novel (canon or not) is written, that Sidious even asked Plagueis before he started Maul's training. Thus Plagueis was aware of Maul and his training by Sidious from the very beginning. To gain his master's permission, Sidious declared Maul to be just a tool to assassin people or causing wreckage by shrewd sabotage.

BTW: Did somebody else did notice Maul in Rebels to have bright white teeth instead of those brownish dark-side-rotten-looking biters at TPM or in TCW?

Maul must've taken the time to give his teeth a good brushing since he had little else to do being stuck on Malachor. :p

So, in Twilight of the Apprentice, Maul states that his real name isn't actually 'Maul', which is a small contradiction at the Darth Plagueis novel.

But this seems to also go against the Nightbrother naming traditions like Savage and Feral. What could his original name have been then? Or is he just forgetting that he had the name Maul before Sidious chose it as his Sith name\/

Oh yeah, you're right. I guess all their eyes look about the same at night. But even so, since it seems that a lot of the Zabraks have luminescent eyes in a variety of colors, I don't think that Maul's eye color is only due to the dark side. In Son of Dathomir, Maul's eyes are yellowish-gold as a child, though the reddish ring is not apparent. It's a flashback too, so the colors are dulled a bit. [IMG]

Maybe he and Rook had a thing somewhere between Son of Dathomir and now, and she introduced him to the wonderful world of dental hygiene...and showers. Or his teeth simply rotted out of his head and now he has dentures. [face_dunno]

Dathomir was a planet engulged in the Dark Side or created by the Dark Side, so its likely all those born on the planet had some genetic traces of the Dark Side through the midiclorians.

The gimmer-like walking stick Maul used to portray "old Master" is also reminiscent of Yoda. Sideshow's Mythos Darth Maul statue also featured a stick/staff(I believe it was inspired off of Star Wars Tales #10 when Maul killed Jedi Master Siolo'urmanka who was armed with just a wooden staff ).

I have a personal theory that Rook is Sabine's mother, so I hope not :p

Or maybe, Maul is Sabine's father!

Not that it would make any sense, or that I want it to happen, or think it will happen, mind you :p

All right, you people see what I mean with last gif, right? It often looks like Maul has tiny suns in his eyes with the way the red shines around the yellow.

All dark siders who fully embrace their passion have them, Maul just had more noticeable ones. Palpatine, Vader, Maul, Seventh Sister and Grand Inquisitor all had them.

Dooku and Fifth Brother however, didn't.

Maul doesn't follow the Nightbrothers' naming tradition either. His name is an actual noun, all the named Nightbrothers (Feral, Savage and Viscus) wear adjectives as names.

Well unless he paid a visit to Kamino and had his DNA extracted from living tissue, I'm fairly certain that Maul doesn't have much of a chance of fathering any kiddos. Thank the force for that...can you imagine tiny little Maul babies invading the galaxy? It would be horrifying...cute, but horrifying.

Maybe it's just something on my end, but half of your images aren't showing up for me. But your right, Maul being Sabine's father isn't the craziest idea fans have come up with.

Oh yeah, I sometimes forget Maul is missing half his body. Poor guy is incapable of having children.

Sabine's face in that pic just about sums up my reaction the theory, tho.

I just started watching rebels and loved the season finale, but am confused about Maul, hopefully someone can fill me in. How much time passes from Twilight of the Apprentice to Rouge One? I presume Maul will be in Season 3 of Rebels but I can't imagine that he's going to be around in Rouge One and he certainly isn't during the OT. He obviously is very hard to kill, so how are they going to make him go away?

I loved the way he is played in Rebels and I've always loved the character. They "killed" him way too soon in the movies.

The timeline doesn't actually work with this theory though, because I'm pretty sure Sabine was born before the Death Watch takeover of Mandalore - so Maul hadn't even met Rook yet.

Maul is probably gonna die in Rebels since they will need to get rid of him eventually. My guess is that he dies in a duel against Vader.
