Rogue One [Official Info] Vanee (aka Hooded Man or Not Plagueis Not Snoke Not Palpatine) in Rogue One

What's your interest in this thread then? There's nothing to do here except speculate a little.
As there are red guards around I don't think guy in the robe is just some dude.

That's a good guest though a lot of people identified a Vader breath noise. Could be misleading tho.

And I gotta say, the silhouette looks a lot like Vader's

 

The Tarkin novel establishes that there was an ancient Sith shrine under the Jedi temple. And, that the dark side emanating from it had a negative effect on the Jedi.

Perhaps, this scene takes place under the old Jedi temple. Perhaps the thing in the cryotube is some sort of ancient Sith artifact (a holocron of some sort?). Perhaps the hooded character is Palpatine, and he gains knowledge and power from this thing.

Some have even suggested that Snoke is really an AI that is projected from a Holocron.

That's an interesting thought. Maybe if Snoke is Plagueis, he could be a projection from a holocron. That could be how he managed to 'come back from the dead'. Projecting a remaining life force, being 'the wizard of Oz', but also having a real consciousness. I don't know, just throwing ideas around.

 

Looking at the left shoulder of the hooded figure makes it look as if that figure is wearing a hood over a cloak. Would Vader be required to put a hood on his helmet? Other than that it could be Vader who is just receiving orders from the Emperor to retrieve the stolen plans.

Speculation is fine. I'm not one for it without something to go on, others are.
What I do find annoying is when it spirals out into this illogical pseudo EU. Some guy actually makes infinitely more sense than Snoke, plagulis, or an inquisitor from Rebels, but that always seems to be the fallback.

I think the guards are there for the object not the person.

 

Pablo has now ruled out any appearance, or mention of Snoke in this film.

"Snoke is not in Rogue One. Like, in any way, shape or form. This is a standalone movie."

I still think that this tube contains a key new piece of technology developed for the DS by Mads Mikkelsen's character. I think that the guards are there to demonstrate the importance of this technology to Palpatine, rather than to suggest Palpatine's presence in this scene.

 

Yeah it was funny because I think when he first responded to me he was saying it in jest, or at least a recognition of some of the theories, then the tweets started coming in about "well does that mean he isn't in the tube either..." and he hit his head against the keyboard again.

I also like his follow up stating again that the stand alone stories are just that. Stand alones.

Then the hooded figure kneeling before it is probably Admiral Motti, high priest of the church of the Kyber crystal.

Now the confrontation between him and Vader during the Death Star conference makes full sense: Two religious spokespeople mocking each others belief.

Speculating and coming up with wild theories is fun! Plus there's a competitive element: the more outlandish your theory, the more satisfying it is and the more bragging rights you earn if it turns out to be true. You can overthink something without taking it too seriously.

So, on that note: the hooded man is clearly the Rani.

It is probably one of the good guys meeting with Palpatine. He is about to/has just betrayed the heroes. Palpatine thanks him for his service....

I think its Palpatine in the cryo-chamber (due to the Imperial Guardsmen presence) and it's either a brand new character, or it's Snoke before he got busted up, kneeling before Palpatine. If it's Snoke my theory is this: Snoke was Palpatine's secret apprentice and Vader is ultimately the one who tears him apart, almost to the death, thus resulting in the severe scars.

 

The only thing we can all conclude is that "it" is something important, as two Royal Guards are guarding it. As for the hooded figure? Someone came up with the idea that maybe the hood was added in the trailer just to throw us off, but when it comes to the actual film the hood won't be there. AKA, it’s Vader. Or the new Admiral-like character.

 

I hate when **** like that gets added to the trailers. I hope it to be a new character and not Vader with a hood "edited" in because why even show it if it's not true? Takes away from the excitement of seeing previews if it's not even an accurate depiction of the scene.

It wouldn't be implausible for them to have a canon variant of Palpatine's meditation chamber. Perhaps his isolation from the physical realm allowed him his foresight and clairvoyance. It would be interesting to see how Palpatine is able to foresee the future so precisely; I imagine it to be ritualistic and long process.

 

Snoke is out as per Pablo Hidalgo.

Good point. The hooded person has the darksider look and acts like a darksider (and not like an Imperial), so he'll be a darksider.

 

Watched the TCW sixth season episode "Voices" the other night where they put Yoda in a cylinder tank with clear fluid (= no bacta) to help him meditate. Quite possible what we see in the Rogue One trailer is the Sith counterpiece.

 

Oh OK, I didn't know that. Cross Sith Inquisitor off the list then. I still don't think it is Vader under the hood though. Who can it be? This question is going to annoy me until Rogue One is released.

I agree that Pablo's offerings do more harm than good. I doubt Lucasfilm and Disney want him out there squashing speculation, etc. The more unanswered questions fans have, the better it is for the franchise.

 

I just don't know. I've seen people get caught up in their own head canon / armchair directing far too often. Honestly they're going to do it anyways and still get pissed when it isn't ________.

I guess I can see it from a futility point of view, but I don't know if I see any harm in it.

 

The irony is JJ Abrams did more harm than Pablo Hidalgo ever did.

 

If it's not Vader then i'm hoping on either a member of the Emperor's Imperial Ruling Council...
