Some fan created ideas and imagery heighten the enjoyment of the end product. Not gonna lie, that gif is seriously one of the best mash ups I've seen. Someone needs to punt that gif to Gareth or Mads.

Watched the R1 trailer again and the sheer size of the Death Star and the Star Destroyers suddenly make them feel menacing - I love it. The scope is fantastic.

 

Is there anyone here who occasionally tweets at Edwards and Mikkelson? If so, send that gif! It must happen now.

At the very least, I want to see a lightsaber move like that in Episode VIII. Perhaps from Luke or Rey.

Frankly it's a big thing for me. IIRC, we don't know yet whether it's a grand admiral (popular assumption) or just an admiral but with an eroneous rank badge (because it's the ESB rank badge that wasn't in use by the time of ANH yet, e.g. Admiral Motti).

Despite the fact that Rebels has been constantly using ESB rank badges (e.g. Admiral Konstantine, many "lieutenants" in the crew pits) a possible rationalization could be (hopefully) that it's a kind of uniform / department we first and last saw in ANH.

Motti's right hand man in the Death Star conference (IMHO the staff engineer, but West End Games / EU turned him into the Yularen character) wears the same kind of uniform with the corresponding ANH typical single line rank badge (but with 3 blue and 3 red bars, indicating a different division than Guard and Military Corps), seen above in the image with a colleague of his.

Obviously our new character in Rogue One surpasses the Death Star conference officer in rank, possible that his rank badge was then adopted for the Military Corps, too, by the time of ESB.

 

Could that be a Y-Wing on the left?

 

Or the burning remains of the spacecraft we'd seen in early pictures. Now those sandtrooper bodies in the middle of nowhere (low tide?) start to make sense, IMHO.

 

Hadn't seen that before. It actually resembles the silhouette of a Y Wing, even though it could be some other craft entirely.

 

Watched the trailer again today. One thing we have never seen, unless it was in an animated series episode I missed, is how the AT-ATs make it planetside. So with that could the shuttle like craft we see blown up in the trailer be a carrier of some sort delivering the AT-ATs to the planet. Would be a very cool scene to see the landing of the AT-ATs.

 

The more I look at that screenshot, the more it looks like a Y Wing to me. It could just be wishful thinking but I can kind of see the classic yellow above the cockpit canopy on the very left.

 

That would be cool. But based on rumors, we may be seeing the AT-ATs emerge from the ocean.

My guess is that this is more likely than an "aerial drop" for two reasons.

1. I believe this tropical planet has an Imperial base on it. So the AT-ATs might already be native to the place.
2. Gareth Evans will not likely be able to resist the "surprise" of AT-ATs emerging from the ocean, ala Godzilla or the Kraken. Instantly iconic scene, with "monster movie" undertones that make it stick in the mind. Could go down as a highlight in the Star Wars pantheon. Whereas if you have some ships drop them from above, it will just be seen as a cool CGI moment.

That said, it is possible that Evans will show the Empire dropping the AT-ATs into the ocean. But I doubt that. My guess is that they emerge from an underwater emergency base.

 

I noticed two things.

One was a shot of Vader. Two was a bunch of AT-ATs shooting stuff.

That's about all I need..

Apart from some quite frankly awful youtube attempts it's surprising how much this trailer is ignored compared to those of TFA. Things I have noticed;

The town they are in appears to have subject to recent street fighting. There are unrepaired blaster holes all over the walls which leads me to believe that the Empire has recently taken this place over.

Is the beach like setting and the town on the same planet? With sand everywhere (yet again) it seems like the action could take place all on the one planet.

'Sandtroopers' - We see them running alongside the regular Stormtroopers in that Installation yet there are no dead Sandtroopers in the battle scene. Likewise there were no Sandtroopers in the spy photos of the battle scene. I have a feeling that these guys get around on Speeder bikes as they don't appear to have any thigh armour and their helmets are similar to Scout Troopers.

Is the Installation a Mine? The troops in the 'tank' appear to be transporting stuff in orange containers and the Imperial transport that gets destroyed appears to have orange cargo slung underneath.

Could the Comms Tower on the beach and the building that BM is walking towards be the same thing? Editing and scale can be a funny thing.

The 'Death Troopers' (Scarab Troopers?) - They are obviously on the 'Beach' location and not some other planet.

 

Got off a train today and felt like I was on a space station for some reason............

 

The AT-AT's are carried by a transport ship. I believe up to 4 can be carried by one transport at anytime.

Lots of action. New characters to follow. More secrets to unlock. So many things to look forward to. A new Star Wars experience.

Any idea who the dark cloaked figure is kneeling? Has to be Vader communicating with the Emperor with the Red Guards present.
