Good to see folks still enjoying the game. It's had some lean times, but hopefully the current scenario is keeping everyone on their toes. That said, due to some issues (real life and otherwise) affecting several of our players, I'll be holding off on my next update until next Monday. The timing of several in game events is key here with making sure everyone has something to do/the time to post, while still pushing the plot forward. Rest assured there are going to be a number of fairly important events that I have mapped out over the next couple of months and I want to make sure everyone gets a "moment in the sun" for their character.

From what I understand its more complex than that. I've heard it referred to as a "Jedi splinter group", and there is another Jedi group in Star Wars Communities called The New Jedi Trials. I'm still a noob too, so someone else might be able to explain it better than I. This is just based off what I've observed.:)

Congratulations. One of those little milestones in life we all still remember. Enjoy your summer break. :p
Welcome to the GoL Vanguard. :)

Someone from the Council should be along soon to greet you and give you all the details of becoming a member of our Jedi enclave.

I start work up at a summer camp at the 13th, so I might not be around much after that for the following two months.

I had graduation practice today, a party tomorrow, and the ceremony on Sunday.

And I do wish to formally Welcome Vanguard to the GOL as well.:D

Oh boy, yesterday was a long day for me. My graduation party went late, lots of friends and family showed up too, so I didn't get to sleep until past midnight. But I'm back! :D

Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure today is my two week anniversary of joining the order.[face_party]

I know I explained why I wanted to join the order, but I have yet to explain my understanding of the Jedi Code, per the original post. I might have given small understandings here and there, but I have never outright said it. So here is my final trial:
    The Jedi Code
There is no emotion, there is peace. There is no ignorance, there is knowledge. There is no passion, there is serenity. There is no chaos, there is harmony. There is no death,
    there is the Force.

There is no emotion, there is peace. : This Tenant is not a rejection of feeling as some might make it out to be, Jedi still feel emotion, they feel compassion, sadness, love, and yes even at times anger and frustration. But a true Jedi can move past the baser instincts that come with these feelings, they can use reason and understanding to grow beyond them at their base. A Jedi can have fun, hang with his friends, and maybe throw in a bit of snark too, but when he feels the negative emotions, fear, anger, hatred, he will not let them grow in his conscience, he will not let them boil to the top, nor reach to the Dark Side, and ultimately the suffering that would become of it. To say there is no emotion is not a condemnation of these common sentient feelings, but to realize that if left unchecked they could cause more harm than good, and allows us to accept our inner peace.

There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.: To say there is no ignorance is to accept that the only limits that exist on your abilities and understanding are those that you place on yourself. It exists as a reminder to Jedi of all ranks to constantly challenge themselves, and grow beyond their current self. Knowledge is power, though a Jedi does not seek power for its own sake, it is only through knowledge that a Jedi might grow in understanding and wisdom. A Jedi questions things, does not blindly accept what they are told, yet respect wisdom. They must grow for themselves, they must seek a better comprehension of whom they are, and become more than that. A Jedi's thirst for knowledge is never satisfied, knowledge trumps power, for it is boundless. Only the Force itself may know all, and it does not bestow all of this knowledge on any one person, so therefor no Jedi can ever get their fill of knowledge, and it is impossible to be left in ignorance as long as you seek to expand beyond it.

There is no passion, there is serenity: This is a natural extension of the first two tenants. If we let emotion rule us, or leave ourselves in ignorance, then we allow the dark side to grow, If we make decisions based purely on emotion, with no logical extension from it, then we may very well cause more harm in the long run. It is important to remain conscientious, to know right from wrong, but to act purely on impulse, to rush blindly ahead without looking at the cause of your actions; you may very well run yourselves off a cliff, and who knows who you may bring with you. It is important to keep a serene mind, to have the deepest devotion, to listen to the force, and be willing to accept the truth no matter how hard it may be. A Jedi can not properly function if they are awash with emotions, thinking irrationally, with such passion that no limits are placed on their capabilities. Through a peaceful mind, and through full understanding of the situation, a Jedi can almost always reach a conclusion that would be for the greater good.

There is no chaos, there is harmony.: This is more of a statement of a the state of the galaxy as a whole, and a Jedi's role in it. Conflict Is not the natural state, if left to their own devices people will inevitably produce a semi-functioning institution to protect law and order, and no war is eternal. Every fight since the dawn of civilization was but a momentary interruption between two periods of peace, and the peace shall ultimately prevail. A Jedi is the protector of the peace, and Justice, in the galaxy. Our place is at the heart and sole of conflict, to bring a swift and decisive end to it. Though ideally we do so with words, as the pen might cut deeper then the lightsaber ever could, but we are prepared to fight for peace when necessary. Our blades are primed and ready, we will defend ourselves, and the innocent against any enemy that may threaten them. It is not out of bloodlust, or a desire for war we strike, but out of a desire to end the conflict as swiftly as possible, and bring back the peace; and only when there is no other choice do we raise our blades against anyone.

There is no death, there is the Force: This is often a difficult tenant for many to understand, as when a friend, master, or other loved one passes away it can hurt. Our hearts naturally mourn the loss of a fellow sentient, even those whom we hardly know we can not help but miss upon their transformation into the Force, and when those we do know pass it tends to hurt all that much more. It is natural miss them, but it is also carries a great risk. Many seek vengeance, or fall into despair or pity, this tenant stands as a reminder that though you can not touch them, or hear their voice in the physical realm any longer, they are no less real in the force. The Jedi teach that life does not cease at death, but it continues on in another form. They become one with the force, they continue in its flow, as they exist as an eternal part of it. Some call it the cosmic force, others the unifying force, but the principle is the same, those that become part of its are not gone forever, but have merely gone through a beautiful metamorphosis into something far greater.

I would hope to be taken as a Padawan sooner rather than later, but unfortunately due to my upcoming extended leave of absence I think it would be best for me to wait until my return to continue along the next step of the Jedi path. May the Force be with you all.:)

This is pretty random...but this morning while I was brushing my teeth, this old TV commercial from the 80's came in my head. It is the source of the catchphrase one still hears occasionally.

Then I imagined myself doing a satire version of the commercial saying: "I'm not a Jedi, but I play one in an RPG."

Well, it made me laugh. :p

    *Bows*
    Greetings Master Jedi.

If i may elaborate on the reasons why I wish to join the Jedi Order. I hope to be considered with the utmost scrutiny, as becoming a Jedi is not for the faint of heart.

The Jedi have been guardians of peace in the galaxy for thousands of years. Protectors of those who cannot protect themselves, defenders of the weak and helpless. What more noble ranks are there among the just in the galaxy? I wish to become a Jedi and learn the ways of the force. If one is to be a successful Jedi he must always be learning; humility isn't weakness, but a strength.

The will of the force is unknowable, but there must be balance. Governments rise and fall, sentient beings live and die, but the Force remains. I wish to immerse myself in the teachings of the Jedi Order and harness the ability to use the force, as well as be it's instrument. There is evil in the galaxy, the dark side is not to be trifled with. I want to come alongside those who oppose the darkness and repel it at every turn.

Please consider this, my first steps in walking the path of light...

There is no emotion, there is peace.
A Jedi must learn to keep his emotions in check, instead of be ruled by them. The resulting medidations and reflections will usher internal peace. This peace is what a Jedi thrives on, even in the face of terror.

There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
In order for a Jedi to be properly equipped, he must have understanding in all things. This is the most difficult of disciplines. Knowledge must be acquired with humility, for it is not the Jedi who came first - but the light, the force. No Jedi can succeed without knowledge of the force, him, and those around him.

There is no passion, there is serenity.
Passion can be a strong conduit into the force, but it's roots are tied into the dark side. A once passionate crusader can easily become a hollow marauder. When one can find peace, that serenity becomes a fortress to take shelter in. No darkness can pierce the Jedi who takes up the shield of serenity.

There is no chaos, there is harmony.
The Jedi who can see beyond his own needs or desires is a true Jedi indeed. Chaos erupts when selfishness and greed take hold. There is danger in individuality if it is paramount. A Jedi who realizes he is a part of something bigger than himself- the force, is a Jedi who becomes a instrument of light for those around him.

There is no death, there is the Force.
One does not need to fear death once he sees the transcendance of the Force. All beings are connected to the Force in some way, whether it is acknowledged or not. In essence, this understanding gives a Jedi pure immortality. Once a life form stops breathing, it does not cease to exist. Rather, it becomes one with the Force.

Well said. :) Name the main roles a jedi might play and tell me which one you think might fit you best. Two examples are Sentinel, and Healer.

    :)

The Jedi are peacekeepers in general, but do much more than that. They are defenders, historians, infiltrators, and watchers.
I believe i would be best suited as a Jedi who observes, uses influence quietly within the realm of his objective.
What role do you see me playing master?

Excellent, The Vanguard I think it would be wise to get to know you a bit better before I make that suggestion. What kind of influence might a jedi have in the galaxy at large?

ConservativeJedi321 well said. Please write a paragraph or so on the history of the GoL. Id like specifics on why it was formed, and what our main task has been in the past.

    As you wish master.

The influence of one Jedi can be immense on the galaxy at large. One Jedi, like Kavar, comes to mind. In 3950 BBY while in hiding to lure out a hidden Sith threat, Master Kavar helped aid the rightful ruler of Onderon against forces of darkness. Albeit he had help from the Jedi exile, who in turn would inadvertently bring the demise of Kavar. The Jedi's influence involved preserving peace and ensuring the rightful rule of Queen Talia over the people of Onderon.

Other Jedi have had greater influence on the galaxy at large, preserving peace and upholding justice throughout the systems.
