Oh boy. More contemporary socio-political controversy.

Man, nothing makes me feel immersed in a galaxy far, far away like real life controversy. I sure don't get enough of that in my life, no sir. It's not like I watch and read Star Wars media for escape or anything.

Oh, I can see it now in the Mod Squad...

Red lights flash on and off, alarms sound..... A second Wendig SW release is in-bound, all leave is cancelled. Prepare for extreme modding.

It's all extremely tedious. There's no contemporary socio-political commentary in having gay characters. Gay people exist. That's really the long and the short of it.

People need to get over it. Let's not coddle the special snowflakes who fall apart at the mention of gay people.

Like, that's the thing really. The accusation is political correctness and yet it's the people who don't want gay people in books who are over sensitive.

    Utterly silly.

How on earth have all you people read the book? It doesn't come out for eleven days.

Why are gay people controversial to you?

I didn't have a problem with the presence of gay characters. It's just... what with how much Wendig talks about it, how much it seems to be a focus of his SW novels; it feels forced. Not organic. "Look at me! I'm progressive!".

Moff Mors in LoTS didn't feel forced.

I feel as though Wendig uses "diversity" as a crutch to deflect potential criticism, as people with socio-political views in alignment with him will naturally be drawn to those elements, and those who criticize the work are dismissed as "homophobes" and the like.

I have no problem with gay characters. I have a problem with poor implementation of gay characters that just gives the impression that Wendig is trying to showcase just how "progressive" he is.

    I. It was barely noticeable in the first book. Gay ppl were mentioned like three times.

II. I didn't think it was forced. But suppose it were forced. So what?

III. Wendig was trying to be a good ally. People went ranting about gay characters and he addressed it. To the extent ppl disliked his writing for other reasons, he said fine you're entitled to your view. The notion he uses diversity as a shield or homophobes as a strawman is simply not in accord with the evidence.

Yes, people who do not have review copies but rather early copies of regularly purchased books are free to talk now. Use spoiler tags please.

Seconded. I really want some details on Imperial political intrigue.

My irritation with Wendig's implementation of his own views aside, I am interested in the new events and phenomena the book adds to the canon, and I will certainly purchase the novel. However, I'm too impatient to wait for the novel to release before knowing the details, lol.
