Probably because he doesn't really care and just want to have a powerbase.

Still, wouldn't those who have seen him see the hypocrisy in this? I mean Hux certainly doesn't seem like the wisest bulb when thinking outside the box, but at the same time he seems intelligent enough to be able to form the argument that this doesn't make a lot of sense.

We don't actually know if the human speciest thing comes from Snoke. More likely it's just a tradition from the Empire. As for why the FO have a non-human as a Supreme Leader I have no idea.

No different from a non-Aryan as a leader of an Aryan cult to be fair.

Chapters 5 and 6 and Coronet interlude:

I love Leia hiring Norra and crew for the mission, nice way to bring the new characters and old characters together, which, aside from Wedge, I thought this series lacked so far.

As much as the image of an Ewok performing a wedding ceremony cracks me up, I like that Han and Leia went ahead and married on Endor. IIRC ROTJ was supposed to end with a wedding originally.

I see that Sloane would do well working on the campus of a major university. The wild goose chase she set up reminded me of trying to get information and getting sent to several different departments only to go back to the first one.

Looks like you all don't think Rax is Snoke, and I'm in no way positive myself, but there is a part of me that would like for him to be Snoke just so there aren't two people that creepy.

Buuuuuut...that said...the Acolytes. Of all the directions I thought could be taken with the remnants of the Empire, I never really expected a murderous cult of Vader worshippers. Geez, Luke, we really needed a "He was redeemed!" broadcast.

I'm about 100 pages in, and man, this book is good. Like, better than the first one. Really good.

Human minds are weak and malleable, the perfect clay with which to sculpt a force capable of dominating a galaxy... :D

Just finished and... wow. That was awesome.

What a great ending. Rax has to be Snoke. I mean, why would they invent ANOTHER "super-secret Imperial," to take Rax's place?

I will admit the book does have one spot that made me worry, and that's when Brenten and Norra hook back up, and I was afraid that their arc for the rest of the book was going to be some crappy soap opera. Thankfully, that paid off in the end.

I've said this before, but along with the main narrative being much stronger than in the first aftermath book, the interludes are better done as well, and their more clearly tied to the narrative. My favorites were the one about the space Pirate who took over the Annihilator, and the continued adventure of Cobb Vanth. I'm really looking forward to where Vanth's story is going.

My only real disappointment is the continued exclusion of my favorite OT character. We still don't have any Lando! I need to know what that scoundrel is doing post-Endor! He doesn't even get a name drop this time! :(

Chapters 7 and 8 and Annihilator interlude:

I liked the Sinjir and Conder hookup, and the realism that Sinjir might be concerned about being open about it although he should not have to be. I enjoyed the whole beach bar setting there.

And Kowakian rum...man, I hope some old school LACWACers are reading this book.

    "It tastes like slug bile."
    "You don't drink. You're not a connoisseur."

But slug bile is a delicacy somewhere.

And yikes, Coruscant under attack? Insurgents knocking out all the power? Glad Mercurial is around.

Burning question, or maybe not...I want to know if Hux's kid is around in TFA.

So pirates are taking advantage of governmental unrest. Again some realism that I appreciate. Seems this was brought up in Bloodline too?

He looks human to me. Old and burned but human nonetheless.

An answer to your burning question...
He is. Gave a big speech & everything. Doesn't really care for Kylo Ren.

His face looks inhuman. The set of the eyes, the placement of the nose, etc. Plus there's the whole fact that the novelization specifically states that he's humanoid, not human. :p

it's interesting that we have three fathers in Life Debt:

Han Solo, who wants to be a great father to his unborn child

Brendol Hux, who does not treat his son as a child but as a "thing" that can be useful one day

and Brentin, who I don't want to talk about now or I'll start to cry

Welp, don't I feel like the idiot. :p

I'm not sure I paid attention to Hux's first name in TFA and if I had thought for about two seconds I could have made the connection with the age. LOL.

This is also why Rebels: Servants of the Empire: Volume 4: The Secret Academy was a big deal at the time too. ... Actually, still is, if you haven't read the series - disregard the age rating and do so.

Hux didn't have a first name in TFA, he was simply General Hux. This is the first time we've been given his first name. Still though... did you think it was just a coincidence? lol

One of the things I really like about this book is that it links up lots of little details really well.

No, I just was not doing the math very well as far as time passage and thought they were the same person instead of the son being the one who appeared in TFA.

...which might be worse than thinking it was a coincidence. LOL.

The novel describes what his hologram looks like, not specifically what he is. He could actually look like that, not human, and still be a human or originally have been a regular human and become mutated by the dark. Or he could actually be something that looks totally different and not even humanoid.

*works on SSD numbers in Legends*

    This is surprisingly fun.

Absolute best retcon of the night; the third unnamed SSD in the Black Sword Command was the
Arbitrator, and it had a hyperspace mishap near Cal-Seti.

    So beautiful.

Also; two Annhilator's had to happen. Blame Tagge wanting the Executor - a bigger SSD...

Oh, there are quite a few of us who believe Rax = Snoke. Since they don't actually tell us Rax's species in the book and he hits all the Snoke buttons. Just wait to you get to the part at the end where it all-but-spells out Rax is Force Sensitive. [face_devil]

    Ysanne Isard + Ishin-Il-Raz + Cronal = Gallius Rax.

Tashu is described as wearing purple robes and a funny hat. Three members of the Peculiar Hat Crew have names and the tall-hatted one wears blue, so can we conclude that Tashu is the Greejatus groupie?
