Saga Point of view - George Lucas was right not to listen to the embittered fans

Yeah, I noticed this wasn't a thread about TFA. Which brings me to a question I had not long after seeing this thread: how did this thread go from being about George Lucas to TFA in the first place? You all were talking about TFA before I even started posting here.

 

I think this thread is really a microcosm of every Star Wars argument gone wrong since 1999.

 

Everyone makes fun of this line but...he has a good point. It is rough, it is coarse, and it is irritating. One of the reasons I hate the beach...and hell, there's bodies of water by it to semi-wash it off. Can you imagine living on a sand planet, living in a sand home, surrounded by....sand?

 

Preach.

 

Oh I can imagine living with a lot of sand. It does get everywhere. The line never bothered me in terms of dialogue, but I think the idea of carrying it through all the OT is hilarious.

 

Honestly, I've always thought that line was hysterical.

 

The droid control ship resolution is certainly an example. In fact it's often listed as a classic example of that trope in movies. I still can't see any in that sequence of TFA. The Resistance ships arriving doesn't really qualify.

With only sand to eat. It would be a...NIGHTMARE!!

Thing is it wasn't just an observation about sand. Using the line as part of a come-on to a girl was the issue. Following it with "here everything's soft...& smooth " was what had people reaching for a bucket.

He's clearly a masochist too. Why did he grab a handful of sand at Shmi's grave? Poor guy, wasn't he suffering enough!!?
