Especially when Master Troll Dave Filoni and Star Wars Encyclopedia Sam Witwer share the same stage.

Yes, they would've been working on the assets for this arc at the time of cancellation. They build out the assets and concept art at the same time, and we see evidence of both of those in the art shared with us by LF for this arc which is dated March 2013, right at the time of cancellation. They probably didn't get too far with the story reels, but we did see some story reels for Kashyyyk arc which was in the production schedule right before SoD.

The Shadow Emperor Nice find in the trailer with that connection to the base in SoD. Do you think they are using these just because they have them built... or is it Filoni still burning a candle for the untold Clone Wars arcs and paying homage to them?

Filoni also said at Celebration that from an in-universe perspective at least, Maul uses this base again precisely because he knew about it already from SoD. Out-of-universe I think it is the case of reusing existing assets instead of creating something new from scratch. We've already seen they're happy to do this with other assets e.g. Republic gunships, the asteroid base etc.

Well, from an in-universe perspective, this might be one of the "secrets" that Maul is still aware of which might serve him in whatever quest he's engaged himself in this time. The Death Watch-colored gauntlet fighter is probably another thing that Maul had put away before departing for Malachor, just in case.

I often wondered if Maul knows the location of Plagueis' burial place or tomb, if at all he has one or at least where his remains are.

Knowing Palpatine he shot them off into oblivion.

Yeah, he would have disposed of the body very thoroughly and done as much as he could to wipe all traces of ''Darth Plagueis'' from existence, except possibly those parts related to immortality, which he would have kept to himself. Maul started out as nothing more than a blunt weapon to kill enemies with and by the end was an enemy himself; there's no chance someone as paranoid and crafty as Sidious would let him know anything about Plagueis.

If anything Maul only knows Plagueis was Sidious's master but that would be it.

Yep, Palpatine tends to operate on a 'need to know basis' - and no-one needs to know what he's up to. He'll only tell people as little as it takes to get them to do what he wants.

Objects of the Sith Lords appear to have some power, so their remains & burial places must also leave certain traces in the Force and we saw some strange things on TCW. I don't think Plagueis's remains would be very important to Sidious like any of that, since Sith Lord's remains are more often buried rather than cremated and are commonly accessible , unguarded & found on Moraband in their respective tombs and pyramids and even on Malachor pretty much the same thing. Someone on Moraband had to bury Bane after he died and create the mausoleums and sarcophagus' and all of that kinda thing. For all we know Sidious coud've kept the remains in a jar or something in his office. Plagueis would be quite the known legend among Dark Siders(there is a church of the Dark Side even) judging by Palpatine's own remarks of him being an old Sith legend while probing & goading Anakin . Sith Lords and the Dark Side in general appear to have a religion and cult-like followers behind them and acolytes and at times more than one Sith Apprentice despite the Rule of Two of Bane's Sith Order . Apparently Plagueis succeeded in keeping alive those he loved and had the ability to create life - we never learn what became of them. Darth Maul is a Sith Lord and only currently former, so he would be still be privy to much knowledge, like he was with Malachor(and the superweapon buried).

Malachor's surface structures also resembled Cato Neimoidia's arena where Starkiller Galen Marek battled the Gorog:

Perhaps Maul destroys the Bendu like Marek destroyed the Gorog..

    So we've got our
first appearance by Maul in the latest preview for Holocrons of Fate and rather than showing off his fighting skills (as is usual for Maul), the team decided to have him probe Hera's mind for information, something that he apparently does effortlessly. And I find that interesting.

We've never seen Maul use a power like that, even if it stands to reason that he would be able to do it. His use of the Force was always limited to combat : enhanced physical attributes, telekinesis and Force chokes. But now that his enemies are in control of the galaxy without a war do divert their attention, Maul is forced to lay low and rely on more subtle tools, tools that he never felt the need to use before, like telepathy. I wouldn't be surprised if reprogramming those droids was part of a skillset that he never had to use before but fell back upon now that he's so completely alone.

He may of used them we just never saw it, so we don't know what he's capable of. In SOD he was using TFU Force style repulse when he obliterated a path through battle droids(Destroyers included) which Savage was capable of doing early on beforehand. Don't forget a lot of material was lost with the EU. Maul was mechanical genius in the EU and some was maintained in canon such as his modifications his speeder the Bloodfin . In the EU he modified and created his own Dark Eye seeker droids. He was known for using the Force mechanical skill mechu-deru where Maul modified the protocol droid C-3PX into an assassin droid to guard his ship. Also remember in TPM Maul attacked Kenobi's mind, when they're standing near the ledge and Jinn & Kenobi and Maul all look at eachother and Kenobi turns away in pain as if attacked by an unseen fist..

Agreed, but that scene where Kenobi turns away is simply a duo fighting strategy, Obi-Wan was the false attacker while Qui-Gon was the true one, they tried to trick Maul but it didn't work.

Oh really? I always thought it was a form of the rarely used Deadly Sight ability that was introduced in the Jedi Knight games in the late 90's. TPM introduced some techniques that seemed otherwise rarely if at used again like Force Speed.

I wonder what his goal really is at this point. Does he just want to be the new Palpatine with his own empire and apprentice? Does he want revenge against Palpatine? Or does he just want to prove to daddy Sheev that he should be back in the fold?
