ST Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma) in the ST

In the movies i agree. Could be they delve into some aspects in books though.

 

I wonder if she'll still be on the poster this time.

 

I hope they can utterly redeem her character and make her a formidable threat.

 

her role was basically an introduction in tfa.

 

Her role was written in late in the game. Let's see what Rian has for her.

 

Phasma got more screen-time and lines in the Lego TFA game than she did in the movie.

 

Still waiting on a scene where she, Hux and Kylo get together, strategize, separate and attack. Like a weed, Piett and Veers did above Hoth in ESB.

 

Cerealbox: That could work, I just hope that they won't copy that scene. I hope that they will do something interesting with the character in episode 8.

 

I'm not sure why typing Vader, came out like a weed.

 

I hope she turns out to be a Rodian or a Zabrak with small horns given the gigantic size of her helmet. It would be cool to have some non-human stormtroopers in the FO.

 

Didn't the Empire hate aliens though? I assume the First Order would be the same.

I wouldn't fix this until I'm briefed on this officially. There have been alien stoodges supporting Palpatine's empire all the time. Just think of Mas Amedda, Sly Moore. Maybe the makers of TFA were just reluctant to give us some more appealing species like Twi'lek, Nautolans, Togrutas, Zabraks.
At least in this regard I can spill some credits to Chuck Wendig for "Aftermath". But when my eyes were wondering through Maz Kanata's castle, I was but wondering if this is maybe just another galaxy far far away.

For my taste there was also too much human staff running around. At least one character of importance could be familiar humanoid (Snoke doesn't count yet). And that Sullustan and that Mon Calamari weren't, what I was hoping for. So I still hope for Phasma to turn out not to be just another uniform-wearing throw-away like hapless pale Ozzel.

If she has a bigger part then some sort of exposition scene may be needed to understand how she escaped the trash compactor which would be a total waste of time for the story.

WHAT ABOUT FINN'S MOTHER

(someone i know suggested this after i was musing about the way i like to read into finn and phasma and that maybe phasma might have a soft spot for finn... maybe she's been helping him)

eta: like imagine the drama of the phasma/finn rematch (which finn should see as a joke, because it's really quite easy really... you just tell her to lower the shields and she does...) is that phasma reveals she's his mother... and then he'll see this awful person he's long resented was actually trying to help him though in a rather twisted way. she knows she should treat him like any other stormtrooper but she couldn't bear the thought of him turning out like the rest of the brainwashed bunch, so she encouraged his individuality. originally she thought he might be able to ascend the ranks, make her proud. but he was opposed to the FO on principle. and so now, she will have to change her mind. (it's like vader and luke all over again... ahem.)

totally agree. that is one mystery we don't need answered.

 

While I admire your creativity, and it could be an interesting twist (to have Phasma be the biological mother of Finn), I don't see it. There are too many issues with it and could cause some backlash if not done properly, and that's all I'll say about that.

Finn never really showed any interest in understanding his back-story, or finding out where he came from. It could be all part of his conditioning and that may change once he wakes from his coma. But the story IMHO needs to focus on Rey/Luke, Kylo/Snoke. Finn, Poe, Chewie and Leia will be minor stories within the bigger story. And then there's Benicio's new character and other possible characters to consider. E.G. Will Maz return?, the droids, etc.

 

If Phasma would be Finn's mom, they wouldn't have casted Gwendoline Christie to play that character but Whoopie Goldberg.

 

Yes, and originally Phasma was created as a male character. I want to see if there's room for tiny hints of femininity in addition to the soldier persona, which in my opinion would be cool.
