Well, I think we need more strong female characters, definitely. But we also need female characters who learn to be strong and who struggle...just as we should have men that do the same. We need characters that relate to all women - even the ones who feel they have nothing worthwhile. And yes, why can't her mother be the scientist?

I mostly agree with the article, though.


At least on other sites, since I've only recently been browsing this one, marginalization can be a huge issue. I've witnessed a lot of female sci-fi fans being belittled for their opinions and personally attacked, regardless of whether the opponent knows anything about them. Characters are also reduced to appearance far too often for my tastes, in any franchise. I always dislike reading reports about casting because some sites even do it in their "professional" opinions/articles.

Lightsaber duels are sooooooo fuking awesome. God, what I wouldn't do to see the extended AOTC duel where Count Dooku fights with a red and blue saber.

Yep. I remember finding an old AotC fan site from 2001. theres a screen shot of him holding 2 lightsabers. I think all the duels were suppose to be much longer but Lucas cut them, probably for time reasons.

 

On a slightly different topic:

Been reading up on the South Korean political corruption scandal and it is the weirdest thing you'll ever read. The President is more or less apart of a cult, who control the country's affair. Most bizarre scandal in history.

 

The whole debate about what Star Wars is at it's heart, is a bit difficult to ultimately pin down to.

Yes, Star Wars can be seen as a soap opera, without the terrible characters and overly melodramatic plots that go nowhere- (and unlike soap opera's, Star Wars is actually fun).

But ultimately- Star Wars is a modern myth- that is an irrefutable fact.

WHY AM I SO HOT IN THESE CLOTHES???

 

Jyn being bashed because of the "Mary sue" outlet is plain foolish and just bias. Not only do we know nothing about her, she obviously isn't a well liked or perfect person from the start. She's a badass similar to Aliens, Sarah Conner etc. No one complained about them, but Jyn gets the bad end of the stick because of Rey, which is kind of unfair.

 

Got to go on a small field trip to see what I'm learning being used in a workplace.
