So many seem to be confused by this. We know they are on Tantive IV in beginning of the ANH and I don't think makers of this film forgot that at any point. Since we didn't see when Tantive docked in Raddus' flasghip we may safely assume they got aboard it before that escape. Maybe there is deleted scene for this since so many scenes seem to be deleted. Or then we just have live without thorough explanation how droids get from place A to place B- damn they could even fly Y-wing in The Clone Wars so maybe they have some adventures of their own and join Leia over Tatooine. Ok sarcasm. Honestly I couldn't care less how droids get in there, but I hardly think there is anything interesting behind that.
The thing that bothered me the whole movie was that in ANH Mon Mothma says that Bothan spies captured the plans, and that many Bothans died in the operation. Most of the Rogue One team were humans.
Okay then. That line is from ROTJ and refers to the plans for Death Star 2. Oooo! Oo! Rogue Two: Bothan Spies
There were no inconsistencies. I freakin' LOVED the movie. I went home, and immediately fired up A New Hope - the segue is perfect.
Wow. I honestly didn't remember it like that - had to go to the tape. %&@ me. And this whole time I was looking forward to seeing what Bothans look like...
How about when Bail says [Kenobi] served him well in the Clone Wars. This is consistent with ANH, but not the PT, per se.
Speaking of which, though, that was always something I wanted to see. Ever since seeing RotJ as a kid in 1983. Shadows of the Empire kind of touches on that, however.
As a member of the Senate, he likely voted to go to war with the Separatists. Therefore, he was partially responsible for deploying troops (including Jedi generals) into battle. So, Kenobi DID serve him.
This movie had so few inconsistencies that this just became one of the most redundant lines in movie history: "It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet. Pursued by the Empire's sinister agents, Princess Leia races home aboard her starship, custodian of the stolen plans that can save her people and restore freedom to the galaxy...." RO goes into deep detail into the first 2 paragraphs and finishes with the second paragraphs. They did sucha good job tying this movie into a New Hope that now I see it as a 4.5 hour saga.
I really liked how the Death Star flaw was hidden by an engineer (Galen Erso) with ties to the rebellion. However, when Leia tells Han on the Falcon - "I only hope that when the data's analyzed a weakness can be found. It's not over yet.", it could be argued that she should have known about the inherent weakness based on Jyn's reason for going after the plans. Maybe in Special Edition version 3 or 4, they will change it from A weakness to THE weakness.
Galen only teased about a flaw, he never specified exactly where the backdoor was. So when Leia makes that comment, IMHO she is being consistent.
a question just occured to me - did any of the spin-off books or comics ever tell the story before about how the rebel spies got the DS plans ?
To be fair, the description of the weakness by Galen to Jyn was vague. The specifics: oh we can get to the reactor through this exhaust port and here's the weapon we should use to have a chance. That required analysis.
Anyone else think the bridge of the Star Destroyer looked to shiny and dark lighted, not like it did in III-VI??? Just me?
It's stretching a point that Vader thinks the Tantive IV got transmissions from Rebel Spies when he knows they didn't. No point in him lying about it to them but now he's got it wrong and they really didn't receive any transmissions at all. They simply got a disc.
