In the first 3 episodes the Jedi are in doubt whether Anakin was the chosen one of the prophecy, but it was not. So with the last 3 episodes, we are sure that Luke was the chosen one, as he managed to get Vader to give up the dark side of the Force and defeat the Sith. But came episode 7 and we saw that the dark side is back. Once again the question comes back: does this mean Luke was not the chosen one, but Rey is the one?
For I understand that the prophecy speaks about the chosen one that will balance the two sides of the Force once and for all!

Not sure if this is the right forum.

That said, Anakin was the Chosen One. And the Prophecy spoke of a specific moment in time, when Anakin finally defeats Palpatine. It did not extend to all of time.

But that doesn't make sense, because other Sith were defeated in history. So why a specific prophecy just to Palpatine?

The Prophecy was a vision of a future event. It didn't give details about the events prior to or after the Prophecy was fulfilled.

It has been speculated by some that Rey is a reincarnation of Anakin.
I don't find that likely myself, but there may be a connection between the two and the story of the Chosen One may be extended in unexpected ways.

There are others who believe that the Force birthed Rey like it did Anakin.

no no and no. anakin fulfilled the prophecy by destroying the sith in rotj and balancing the force. balance means no sith, it doesn't mean no dark side. tfa and the sequels have no sith. just dark siders.

gl wrote i the prophecy because of rotj. gl wrote the prophecy about anakin in the pt so it would be wrapped up in rotj when anakin redeems himself and destroys the sith.

Actually, the Prophecy existed in the first drafts of ANH.

Is this the Son of the Suns prophecy?

"…And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as THE SON OF THE SUNS."
    (source: Wookieepedia)

You hear it shouted by someone on Coruscant in the 1997+ ending of ROTJ. But Lucas has AFAIK never tied this to the TPM 'balance to the force' prophecy.

Yes, it's at the beginning of the second and third drafts of ANH. Also, the ANH novelization mentions the Journal of the Whills as well.

Here's some old information on the Prophecy....some of the links may not work anymore.

Almost forgot...there's mention of the Whills in the TFA novel, too. A new prophecy, perhaps?

    First comes the day
    Then comes the night.
    After the darkness
    Shines through the light.
    The difference, they say,
    Is only made right
    By the resolving of gray
    Through refined Jedi sight.

In a quiet place right now and can't listen to the clips really. I just played a small clip of the clip- that TPM audio is from the celebration at the end, and the ROTJ audio also from the various planetary celebrations right?

Suspected this when TFA came out but everything that Disney-LFL has done since further confirms this idea that Disney is loving expanding the moral and religious spectrum in Star Wars. From Ahsoka to the untrained pseudo-Jedi in Rebels, to Kylo and Snoke who are not Jedi or Sith, to Chirrut who is neither Jedi nor Sith- they are very diligently filling the universe with Force users that don't easily fit into previously popularized labels. Maybe the "balance to the Force" brought about by Anakin and Luke will be furthered by Rey's ascent to being a Gray Jedi Master, like Ahsoka but way more important and powerful. I thought this a year ago when I read this and think it doubly now.

Just to add to the idea, it's not just the "Force". They are making the Empire less "bad" by establishing them to be less sexist (Phasma), specist (Thrawn) and racist (Bodhi) than we previously thought. They are making the Rebels less "good" by showing "extremist" maybe even "terrorist" Rebel factions in R1.

A very interesting and probably worthwhile direction.

Yes, but the second link doesn't work anymore. You could probably find something similar on Youtube.

Well, I don't know about making the Empire "less bad", moreso about making it more varied. A killer is still a killer, regardless of being less sexist, specist, or racist.

Just e-mailed it to my phone and both links actually worked!

Right, that's why I put "bad" in quotations. I guess to try to articulate it better I mean- by making the Rebels have an Al Qaeda faction and the Empire less homogenous they're making it easier to see the good and bad in both. Taking away the easy ways we had to label the groups. Harder to say "Just like the Nazis the Empire eschews women, non-whites, other species etc." or "Rebels fight fair and Empire fights dirty...". Increasing the ambiguity, giving an argument to those who would paint the Rebels as terrorists or the Empire as not just like Nazis etc.

Fair point. I'm reminded of Samuel L. Jackson's character in Django Unchained.

Weird about the links. Didn't work for me the first time....must've done something wrong.

    No.

I wouldn't compare Saw's group to Al Qaeda. They're not that extreme.

We really don't need another prophecy thread, and this isn't even the right place for it.
