I'm still not convinced on Saw's decision to stay and die in Jedha. He said something of the like 'I'm no longer fleeing', but why? Did he figure he'd become a better source of inspiration for the rebellion if he died there?

It felt like a rough parallel with Vader.
Regaining his Soul. And then dying.

    It was a bit silly.

According to that interview with Filoni about Saw being in Rebels this season Saw is following the trail of the Death Star, desperate to prove the Empire is building a super weapon. Considering his rapidly declining health maybe this hunt is the only thing keeping him going, that proving he's right will somehow atone for his extremism. After hearing Galen's message and witnessing the Death Star fire on the Holy City perhaps Saw feels like he failed and lost his will to rage on

It's easy for me to rationalize because every revolutionary I ever read about espoused the utility of martyrdom. And Saw literally spread his arms out in the fashion of a very famous martyr. Not silly at all, IMO. Felt appropriately realistic and characteristic.

I hope we get to see some of Saw's soldiers in tomorrow night's episode of Rebels. I'd love to see the Two Tubes twins or Moroff

One of the Partisans, the one who was mad Cassian interfered with their ambush to protect Jyn, reminded me of a Husk from Mass Effect.

I really wanted more of Moroff. My only real disappointment the first time I saw the film. :)

I liked Saw but I didn't like the partisans that much. They felt underused, as I was expecting them to be much more cold-blooded and evil. After all they are referred to as "extremists" by the Rebellion, but this film made the rebels look more "bad" than the partisans. The partisans didn't kill Bodhi or the others, they kept them in cells, whereas the rebels didn't hesitate for a second when it came to executing people to the left and right. Additionally, the only one who says a word besides Saw is Two-Tubes, whom feels a bit.... robot-like and non-relatable. I guess the partisans will make a return in Rebels, but how could you show their true side on a children's show?

Well, oh well. Perhaps I was expecting too much.

You seemed to miss the parts where the partisans tortured somebody, and set off multiple bombs in a crowded street full of innocent civilians. :)

The Rebel Alliance, on the other hand, was only shown killing military targets and intelligence informants (the latter being one of Saw's partisans, in any event).

That's the key difference, IMO. The Alliance recognizes a boundary between the military theater and the civilian theater, while Saw's partisans don't.

IIRC, the attack of Saw's Partisans enabled the recovery of several Kyber crystals.

So what's the connection between the Partisans and the Guardians on Jedha?

And why did they put two Guardians in a cell, where they previously seemed to assist those in the recovery of Kyber crystals?

Perhaps that's a reflection of the partisans' extremism. You are either with them or against them, which supports the earlier implication that not even the Rebel Alliance are welcome. To them, even though the guardians aren't friends of the Empire, that doesn't mean they're friends. Saw clearly isn't a believer in the 'enemy of my enemy is my friend' approach. There's nothing to suggest that the recovery of the crystals is to give them back to the guardians.

Well if we go by the Filoni interview about Saw's appearance on Rebels, Saw and his men are following the trail that leads to the Death Star. They know the Empire is building a super weapon, they just don't know what it is. They see stormtroopers hoarding kyber crystals so they steal them. Probably not to return to the Guardians but instead to just take them away from the Empire. One of the Partisans Cycyed Ock is studying the crystals in Saw's hideout. Perhaps they are trying to figure out what the Empire could be using them for. Tivik knew it was a planet killer but after Cassian killed him maybe that info never got back to Jedha

Anybody get the name of the Partisan with the black Scout Trooper mask? What's his story? Ex Imperial or just a rebel wearing a war prize?

The look of them was fantastic, their designs were one of the best things about the film. They were the cantina or the Jabbas Palace of RO.

You could see some of Jabba's minions in the bunch. A blend of criminal and partisan collaboration in Saw's fanatics.

I thought they were all pretty cool except for Saw. It was like they were going overboard trying to make him cool, with his suit/weird voice etc. It was silly imo.

I didn't think they came off as fanatics. They weren't religious or anything. Just believed that the "ends justified the means" when it came to defeating the empire. That is a belief that is perfectly logical although seriously unethical. It came off that they just disliked the formality and slight bureaucracy of the rebel alliance. They didn't believe in following rules of war if it hindered their efforts against the empire.

So their tactics were questionable, but not outright terrorism. For example, they targeted stromtroopers and imperial tanks not random groups of citizens on the empire occupied city. They targeted the empire in a fashion that was careless though when it came to collateral civilian damage.

They were militants more than fanatics. Broad daylight attack in a crowded street where the primary weapons were explosives. Kinda terror-y if you ask me. I just liked how diverse they were and I always liked Saw from the Clone Wars arc so seeing him in live action was great.

Additional point - the homepage has a video feature showing off behind the scenes aliens. Looks like Moroff and Oolin Musters (Jyn's cell mate) initially had much more to do

You can read it both ways. A militia fighting against Imperial rule across the galaxy or since Jedha was a holy city their intention was to drive the Stormtroopers out. IMO they were fanatics as Saw came across as a man with a mission to wipe out the Imperials on Jedha. His use of mercenaries perhaps even hired from Jabba and his crew was to use them as expendable foot soldiers. If you look at the Guardians of the Whills they stayed in the city and rarely engaged in the Imperials in physical combat preferring to safeguard the ancient Jedi Temples and keep the populace in safety. The contrast between the two was really fascinating to watch.

Yeah I think the intension was to make there hurry to pickup the Crystals seem more greedy than anything, wouldn't be surprised if the intension would be to sell them off on the black market to fund weapons purchases.

I would add that I really loved the scenes showing the interior ot Saw's hideout, the look of the old guy with the blacked up eyebrows I think tells you everything you need to know about what kind of people these are without the need for taking up time with exposition or showing further brutality.

Homepage has an article about a book detailing Chirrut and Baze's past. Talks about the arrival of Saw Gerrera on Jedha. Perhaps we will get to meet some new Partisans or maybe learn more about the more popular ones. Fingers crossed
