Seems odd, theres quotes from jj saying that they added things to their movie to accommodate some requests from rian, you dont know who to believe? Considering they already wasted heaps of time with arndt did jj and kasdan have time to make major changes? Apparently rian was seeing the dailies and stuff throughout production, The only changes on record was from jj himself from when Harrison broke his leg.

I got the impression that JJ cut TFA heavily all the way up to release, to get the running time down and make for a pacy story.

If he cut things that Rian had expected to be in, going by the script and what had been filmed, then the VIII script was starting from the wrong baseline. RJ would have to fill in the gaps before he could start telling his own story.

I'm thinking that was what all the rewrites were for, and quite possibly why the release date was put back. JJ made his mystery box too big and mysterious.

I thought part of it was to expand Poe and Rey. Poe became a huge hit at the release of TFA and Disney was unsure about Ridley as she was a complete unknown. Ridley nailed it and people loved her character so they wanted to expand it more.

Kinda like what Disney did back in the day with Pirates. Orlando Bloom's character was a big hit in the 1st one, so in the 2nd he was even more apart of the story.

    Yeah...and my opinion is...
    Sea monsters on Naboo...boring
    Monsters in the Geonosis arena...silly
?Bantha on Utapua...I was OK with this
    Dianoga in trash compactor...eh, fine
    TESB monsters...fine
    Rancor and Sarlacc...could do without
Rathtars...I fast forward through that scene

I'm ok with it as long as it's intriguing and done well. Hard for me to explain what I mean. So I just hope the sea monster thing ends up being interesting and not stupid, because it's very easy to mess it up.

    continuation of the 1st tweet
    Rian Johnson@rianjohnson 25 Dec 2016
@HeerJeet Pssst. Devil's advocate: the prequels are a 7 hour long kids movie about how fear of loss turns good people into fascists. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
    Matthew Kane@OompaMyLoompaa 8h8 hours ago
@rianjohnson @HeerJeet The franchise's own philosophies disagree with you. The balance of the Force says the dark side is needed.
    Rian Johnson@rianjohnson 8h8 hours ago
@OompaMyLoompaa @HeerJeet Balance is not achieved at the end of the prequels.

I couldn`t care less about what people argue when it comes to PT criticism.

but as always I post anything SW related

the first tweet was to say it`s a continuation,
but the other guy was talking about the PT when he was talking about balance and darkside and Rian`s reply was also about the PT and the Saga at the same time. Essentially that the guy is wrong in his tweet.

balance of the force doesn't mean the dark side is needed...it means there is no unatural use of the force aka no dark side.

So here's something i feel we could talk about and no one brings up. What's Rian Johnson camera technique and shot composition like.

What i mean is Gareth Edwards is a director who always got scale right, and JJ always has the camera moving and is fast paced.

But what's RJ like is he slow and close up shots. Wide shots and fast, Wide shots and slow. Anyone know what his style like.

Here's a nice sample platter of his work from Brick, The Broothers Bloom, Looper, an episode of Terriers he directed, and the first two episodes of Breaking Bad he did (the third aired after this video was made and thus isn't featured). Warning: particularly crappy dubstep music kicks in around the middle of the video.

Ugh. Give us the title!! Ha ha. Rian is a nice guy it seems. This interview seals the deal for me about Rey and Luke. Seems as though the interviewer now knows who Rey's father is and is walking a fine line. Just my impression.
