But the design in the comic and Rebels will be different. It's been fifteen years, people change their looks. And besides, putting a comic book character into animation can look different in the final result.

Son of Dathomir's more realistic style art might account for Kast looking different in Rebels. When Sabine is drawn to be less stylized she looks an awful lot like the SoD version of Kast.

    [IMG][IMG]

Now the eye color is different between SoD and Rebels...

...but that's nothing compared to the inconsistencies with Fife's appearance.

(As if that wasn't enough, Dark Disciple claims he has magenta eyes.)

Yeah, this is one of those episodes that really should be a two-parter.

Just so you guys know, the Mandalorian supercommando that was guiding Sabine to her mother removes his helmet in the clip.

Where? It just seems to me that the clip is edited in an odd way.

I think he removes it off screen. Sorry I should have made it clearer. It's the scene that happens after Sabine shows her mother the darksaber and it kinda pulls away in the clip.

Part of the reason I'm curious about his eventual affiliation is because I figure you only introduce two family members right now for one reason: to have them take opposite sides on Sabine. Sabine's backstory has a lot of focus on her mother, so I figure either:

-Sabine's mom continues to let her down as a final play through on losing your heroes from childhood to the reality of their flaws, with her brother joining her to show that the younger generation must take up this fight.
-Sabine's mom sees the light and turns the clan against the Empire, but pays the price for her choices by losing her son to the Empore's indoctrination.

Either way, it looks like even after Sabine produces the Darksaber, someone with authority has her and Rebels held while Saxon arrives, and Sabken using Kanan's lightsaber implies their honor duel is a late development, possibly caused by Sabine's supportive family member finally standing for her.

Saxon gets a hold of the darksaber at some point from the scene in the mid season trailer, but the darksaber isn't Kanan's; it's Sabine's.

I think Sabine is going to be staying with her family at the end of the episode. One of the episode preview images has Sabine and her mother looking towards/up at something. Could be Kanan and Ezra leaving.

I really hope Sabine actually ends Saxon in this episode and doesn't just let him go like she did in her duel with Fenn Rau. I mean, I understand she's a bit more principled than your average Mando, but in this case it would be the most logical outcome. She has to win the respect of her own and potentially other clans. Besides that, Saxon is just too dangerous a character to be left around. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

In the preview it says Sabine returns to her Homeworld of Mandalore, but this Alpine looking World might be rather one of Mandalores Moons. It looks nothing like the dustball from TCW.

The phenotype and race of designs between the two different characters is clearly different , even between Sabine who also shared some aesthetic(and/or design) similarities with the Rook character but are different as well. What they could've done is something like what they did with Saw, kinda merge/hybridize between the TCW version a live action versions of the character for Rebels. But that does not explain all the other changes .

Rook Kast was not the only one with that stylized unique looking shaped helmet either in SOD, you can find another one among the Maul super commandos in the background:

Moreover Kast, sported some sorta griffin-like creature as her perhaps personal emblem on her left arm:

I would at this time, remain cautious about the Rook Kast connection, atleast a direct one as I saying, but their may be some familial connection yet of course. Design wise Sabine was a take off of the Nite Owl and Rook Kast designs in part:

The Dark Saber actually belongs to Darth Maul and not Sabine, if its a bout legit succession ownership of the weapon. And it does not belong to the Mandalorian warriors but to the Jedi Order. Sabine also originally gave the saber to Kanan's keep, and then both Kanan and Rau came up with the current situation for Sabine. I don't expect Gar Saxon to amount to much in any such duel which would also likely probably use other weapons like Mandos do. And since they made the both the Rau and Gar characters into lame ducks compared to Sabine, Gar is already a jobber as they made him get pretty badly trashed by Sabine prior in combat. Plus she had at least some training under a Jedi trained warrior and Knight level combatant.

Maul doesn't have a use for it anymore and keeps it as a trophy. He wants revenge on Kenobi now, and we've had this discussion before on Maul and whether he has the right to the darksaber, so I'm not going to repeat myself again.

I'm pretty sure Pablo hinted there that Sabine was Rook Kast's daughter, the similarities between them are pretty spot on. If the character wasn't Rook Kast, they would have said her name in the preview. But they are keeping her name hidden for a reason.

I would say it's basically what it shows. I noticed some previews showing the end of the episode and this image makes me think this is the end of the episode. We'll probably won't have Sabine until the end of the season, I agree. Maybe it's really the Mandalorians who will save the day.

Yeah. I've been thinking about it too, I wonder if Ezra is going to get mad that Sabine is staying behind? He might feel like she's abandoning the Rebellion.

I don't think so. Kanan: "Know this family will stand by you not matter what you choose." and then all of them kneeling. Foreshadowing?;)

I would think not, since he had the pep talk with her last episode that convinced her to return to training. "At least you have parents to go back to" sounds to me like he really wants Sabine to do whatever it takes to reconcile her differences with her family.

Yeah that's true. Who do you think will finally believe Sabine first about what the Empire is doing? Her brother maybe?

Just a note about the 'throne room' image.

It's obvious that Sabine's family are people of some stature. Note the portrait of a woman (I think) holding the 'Winged Helm' and the actual helmet resting on a pillow on the throne. I doubt it's her mother in the portrait because that would be a bit narcissistic. So it's probably the founder of the clan/past leader etc. or maybe Sabine's grandmother.

    So
    1. that helmet looks to be the symbol of the Clan Wren leader like the Darksaber is for the Viszlas.
    2. Because I believe the portrait is a female fore-bearer, I'm also going to infer that some Mando clans pass their leadership/titles in a matrilineal manner.
    3. If it is Rook Kast is sitting on the throne. Kast is perhaps her husband's name but he married into her clan even though she took his name. Sabine retains her Mother's maiden last name because she was next in the line of succession for the Wren clan's titles as the eldest daughter.

Kanan is watching the fight from the balcony too. Half conceiled by the lightsaber's hilt (?) . I suppose Ezra must be there too, between Kanan and the unconfirmed Wren boy.

Question: I ticked "reply" on TheSilentInfluence 's post, but its quote doesn't show up. What am I doing wrong?

Speculations: Sabine will kill Gar Saxon in the next episode and the Mandalore arc will then continue in S4. WIth Saxon dead there is now an empty throne and maybe we'll see the different clans fight for power. I also think that Bo-Katan will lead one of these enemy factions.
