Mon Mothma was excellent in this episode, and I love that there is a meeting at Dantooine. Hope we actually see the surface, as Dantooine is one of my favorite planets (thanks KOTOR).

Uh....no it doesn't. Alderaan was a planet full of innocent people. Destroying it cannot be justified, no matter how much support Bail Organa gave to the Rebellion.

It's basically a glorified Road Runner Cartoon. With the Empire as Wiley Coyote and Thrawn and his plan is classic Wiley and his plans.

I should confess though that Iv not bothered to watch this episode, merely read the spoilers and I don't think I'm missing much.

Well, I thought this episode was excellent. I don’t know, I thought it felt closer to the OT Star Wars than most other episodes. Good mix between fun and serious. I liked the action and the tactics this time made sense (well, more than they usually do); the visuals looked gorgeous and the music was perfect. And finally, some good tie in with RO.
I only have one nitpick! And that is the criminally ugly design of Mon Mothma. She makes Rebels Yoda and Anakin look good by comparison.

I was not expecting Mon Mothma to put herself out there so bluntly against the Emperor this early on. Maybe I should have. I'm sort of surprised that the Emperor did not have his guards shoot her on sight. But I guess he was maintaining the pretense of democracy at that point, at least somewhat?

Ezra knowing how to fly did come out of the blue; I'll reiterate the hope that we'll see Hera teaching him in a comic. I thought the nebula escape route was a great idea, especially at the end with the firing proton torpedoes into it and blowing up the SDs that way.

I have the same issue with Thrawn that I had in the last episode: how the hell did he know that Hera would try that route?

He plans to use the Death Star to preserve order. Until it's ready, he has to keep the pretense of democracy by keeping the Senate intact. The Ultimate Weapon isn't complete yet, and so Mothma needs to be treated as a dissident Senator rather than outright traitor who can be summarily executed.

When I watched these last two Episodes, I saw Rae Sloane walking out of Thrawn's office in "Through Imperial Eyes" and then Norra Wexley as the young Y-Wing pilot Gold 2 in "Secret Cargo". This would be an awesome tie in to the new Aftermath books. Did anyone else see this? More to come maybe?

Why didn't Ezra just use the Force and destroy the Imperial Probe by crashing a large piece of debris into it.

Sorry to break it for you but it was captain Brunson.

You know how fast ships fly ? Faster than Force I presume... Well at least his force...

Besides the fact that no, it really doesn't justify it, it's hardly universally recognized that even Hiroshima/Nagasaki were justified or even necessary. That debate has been raging for decades as historians dig things up. I won't get into it because this isn't the place for it and Google exists, but I'm just saying, that example doesn't necessarily support your argument.

Hera's been teaching him, apparently. The force also helps. I really like that the cartoons use some astronomical bodies we don't get to see in the films. They had nebulae in the Clone Wars, but they didn't look quite as good as what we've seen in Rebels. Maybe black holes are next...

    hence the analogy...

The woman walking out of Thrawn's office wasn't Rae Sloane.

The person I was responding to said outright that destroying Alderaan is now justified and "Instead of being an unjustified escalation" was like Hiroshima/Nagasaki. So I'm not entirely certain what you're trying to say here.

My own point was that that was a bad example to try to use for that argument.

Wait a moment. "They came." So when the fleet drops in they had either been already on their way, and didn't hear the speech. Or they were a microjump away and were deciding whether or not to join, based on how good the speech was?

I liked certain parts--like the TIE Defender being badass, the visuals of the nebula, and so on--though Mothma's speech didn't feel that convincing, and once again the Rebels toast Star Destroyers through sheer luck. At least this time the ISDs seemed to just take some scorching to the hull than being outright destroyed, that'd be kinda stupid and would take away from Rogue One being the first time the rebels are properly able to take down the Empire's capital ships. Though once again they forget that those ships carry dozens of TIEs--at least a line to the effect of "we don't need to launch fighters, we have them where we want them" would suffice if budget's an issue.

    So, mixed feelings overall.

I don't think thats what he meant. But from the Empire's perspective(point of view and tactically/strategically), yes the Empire made a good move as it eliminated a massive part of the Rebels base but obviously not all. Also in the Ahsoka novel Force sensitives were granted asylum there among other refugees, so it does seem the Empire took out quite a few problems. But overall I don't think it was the military victory they won as soon after, the Rebels avenged Alderaan by destroying the superweapon - although the DS was far more destructive in present canon no that since it obliterated the Holy city of Jedha killing quite a large number and eliminated a major Force junction - but again the battle of Scariff was a complete disaster and their security for the DS by ANH was a complete joke - it did not even have Star Destroyer support. SW is kinda a mess overall to be honest, the bad guys are always pretty much doomed and written wonky.

This is a fantastic episode. It exemplifies everything the series should aspire to be in practice.

The script is tightly focused on the intersection between our main characters and the broader political backdrop. It zeroes in on Ezra and Hera and incorporates a well known but rarely seen icon like Mon Mothma.

The animation was as good as it's been in the series. The nebula was a brilliant change of pace as a setting, and it was employed as a defacto character in the story. The dogfight scenes were excellent, and it was great to see the Y-Wings in action for what's really the only time I know of in the saga outside ANH. And...Gold Leader!

Thrawn was also used effectively in that he correctly diagnosed the rebel strategy and then dispatched someone else to do the failing, protecting his character in the process.

And then the speech and the official on-screen first step toward the formation of the Alliance.

    Great stuff.

Yeah, there were a couple bumps. But that's being extremely nitpicky given the context of a ~20 minute episode. This pushed the SW story forward with intensity and drama, and it placed our new characters in the middle of that story without any logical hiccups or canonical problems.

    10/10

I don't think Mon Mothma looked bad. She looked like Return of the Jedi Mothma:

Granted, it might have made more sense to make her look like Rogue One/RotS Mothma, but i'll give them some artistic licence.

I stopped taking this episode seriously the moment the female pilot tripped over and was said to be "out of action"

I'm also getting to get really tired of Taylor Grey's line delivery, you can seriously tell the kids never done proper VO work before, especially compared to the wonderful Vanesaa Marshell and Steve Blum (legends)

I think it's less TG fault and more the dialogue he's given (which is pretty awful) besides wasn't he Boba Fett in TCW ?

I enjoyed the episode and while I see what people are saying about certain knocks -- overall they are picked nits -- at least in my opinion.

    My 2 questions:

How did the Ghost avoid any damage from the Nebula
If all these Rebels knew where to meet -- how come no Imperials were able to catch wind of the message? Put another way, how did the Rebellion meet up?

I'd say it's a combination of both factors after all Freddy Prince Tyrene Siccar are both relatively new to the VO game too (I may be wrong) and they come off alright, atrocious dialogue and all.

Boba Fett was voiced by Daniel Logan in TCW, the same actor who played him in AOTC
