For me, the fact that the prow breaks the triangular shape, rather than it looking like a perfect triangle from above, or a perfect flat plane (not counting guns and bridge) from the side - is the bit I find most unaesthetic.

Without that lump at the end of the prow, I'd like it more.

The Resurgence class was filmed and promoted horribly, it looks like crap from pretty much every angle in the film due to perspective exaggeration but when you get to the full 3d model or a decent profile pic like in the TFA Visual Dictionary it looks infinitely better. Looking at a promotional image it's ugly and the barracuda underbite is ridiculous, but when you get the little Hasbro Titanium model it looks perfectly decent.

Do you ever plan on doing Mandators I, II, and III? They're supposed to be similar to the Bellator, right?

I originally thought his Legator-class, being based on a TPM-era battleship from a comic, and being close to the right size, would end up being the Mandator-I, but apparently not:

It never ended up having the bulb, so didn't feel right calling it Mandator. One of those would look close though, just more Bellator design cues thrown in.

The Mandator IV looks very Seinar. If it's KDY I'll be quite mad- It looks nothing like a Kuat ship. However it looks just like the Seinar-made Interdictor. My real problem with it is that the bridge should be much smaller. Bridges never seem to change size, while the rest of the ship can be bigger or smaller.

I have to agree completely on the scale issue. My first thought on seeing it (not the video, just a cap) was that it was Disney making the Vindicator/Immobilizer.

I'd say the "anti-air" turrets, if we had more clues as to their size (maybe, in-movie, X-wings or TIEs engaging them) would help to scale it best.

If the movie makes it clear that they're comparable to ISD turrets, their tiny size helps to communicate that it's much bigger than an ISD.

I think that was the term used in the article. Hence the quote marks - since it's inaccurate - but I get the general idea of what they mean - which is, anti-starfighter.

As a simple bombardment ship, I think it works fine. Its dorsal side protected with lasers, with its ventral bombardment cannons showing the ship's purpose; shooting at moons, planets and bases/fortresses.

I don't like the massively wide tower, though. I'm guessing that's where much of the habitable areas are. A typical superstructure along the spine probably would have been more visually pleasing and closer to what is expected.

I hope said guns are used and they're at least respectable in effects. A ~1 km. long EM gun being powered by a reactor that can push a several kilometer ship around, isn't a popgun by any stretch.

Its not the best design, it looks decent, but I actually like that its an "ok" design at best, that fits with the First Order being rip-offs of the Empire. Not like I ever want them getting anything as cool looking as the old EU Pellaeon-class. I wish the New Republic could have gotten something like the Nebula, but with the likely (non-existent) state of the Republic Navy after Hosnian Prime, I'm not holding my breath.

Did any sources clear up how many shipyards the FO had in the known galaxy? They've got lots of resources in the Unknown Regions, yeah, the Resurgent was partially a KDY design, unless it ends up like Rothana and being sub-contracted out to whatever Unknown Regions shipyards they set up. The Resurgent actually looks a bit nicer compared to the Mandator-IV, but TFA never really had any good shots of the Finalizer. Close-up shots of the gun batteries during Finn and Poe's escape, but that doesn't really count. Although after ST:ID and the poor views we got of the Vengeance, I'm not surprised. It doesn't look half-bad in the Cross-Sections book, but the movie didn't use the warship that much.

Not a fan of the design myself....too flat...I get that it is supposed to be huge...but it basically looks like a flat triangle with no character. And not a fan of the the bridge tower.

Now I do not want it to look exactly like an ISD or Executor-Class....but I want it to have be an evolution of them like the Resurgence was,

As a side note...the TIEs as well should have been more of an evolution. I stated before they should have adapted the TIE Avenger and Scimitar for the FO to use in the new trilogy. First of all they would have been a great advance for the TIE series in the new trilogy and would have been great fan service. Same feeling on the new X-Wings...do a different design that has the Star Wars feel but is an evolved design.

To be fair, we haven't seen a dedicated ground bombardment ship in Star Wars before, so there's really no previous analogue to evolve from. A gunboat/monitor looks quite a bit different to a destroyer, to use a real world example; a shallow draft and 1-2 big guns for naval gunfire support compared to a deep hull and many more smaller guns for peer ship and smaller combat, as well as for escorting larger ships.

The warships we've seen so far have been ship to ship for all intents.

But that Predator render was mine too (not responsible for the design though).

I actually rather like the Predator design. I dunno why this thread keeps looking down on it.

The Predator is a bold step away from the norm. I'm not sure I like those drag-inducing forward facing solar panels, though. But it's decent enough.

Drag doesn't count in space, and a normal TIE isn't aerodynamic in atmosphere either.

It's a Paris Gun.....or a couple of Paris Guns. Either way, it's a brutally simplistic design meant for a singular purpose...to smash cities from orbit.

    I like it!

.....and I think the "divot" is a massive heat sink/exhaust port......perhaps incorporating a smaller exhaust port leading to the reactor as adapted from other Imperial plans.....

My biggest beef with the Mandatory IV is that despite being 7.7km, it has a paltry 24 antifighter turrets.... in a galaxy where snub fighters brought down three superweapons and dozens of well armed capital ships. At this length it should absolutely bristle with small guns. Similarly, I think that for a monitor/bombardment ship, it should be smaller than an ISD but still built around one or two massive guns. Modern-era monitors were intended as cheaper ways to get battleship-sized guns into action against shore targets and thus were kept as small as they could while still being a stable gun platform. The design is ugly, but so are lots of real ships so that's not as much of a strike for me.
