This interview (at 9:25) has always made me question whether or not the whole "Episode IX was Carrie's movie!!" is true. With TLJ not being changed and this interview, it wouldn't surprise me if Leia dies (and was always supposed to die) in TLJ.

She doesn't die. Carrie was already signed for IX. Colin Treevorrow already cleared up ages ago that Leia had an expanded role in his film (obviously before he was fired). Do you really think that, in their mourning period, people like Kathleen Kennedy and Mark Hamill are concerned about throwing folks off the spoiler scent?

Or that Kathleen would literally create a fictional story about how she promised Carrie IX was hers? Because she recalled that conversation with Fisher.

Or that Disney-Lucasfilm would've had a massive insurance policy out on her for IX...if she wasn't in IX?

I get that this fanbase is super prone to conspiracy theories, but it's a fact at this point that Leia featured heavily in IX.

I don’t understand, in that interview where she backtracks saying, “if they don’t kill me” always seemed proof positive that she’d be fine in VIII... she would never even joke above it spilling the beans that Leia dies if it were true.

Leia is going to be fine in this one all the way. It’s Christmas, and almost a year since her passing... the worst strategy in the world would be to “fix” the problem by killing her off. They’re going to celebrate her at her best. And still going out on a limb that the surprise in IX is she’s in it.

And dammit, I haven’t watched a Carrie interview since last year and it was tough. Still love her.

I don't think Kylo will pull the trigger either. I have loved watching all the reaction videos to the trailer the part where Leia shows some people have even cried a bit. Its going to be hard to watch either way.

She talks about working with the late Carrie Fisher—“I’d never met anyone openly bipolar before, who discussed loving glitter because of her LSD days”— and she tilts her head back to stem the tears as she speaks.

It was Fisher who warned her that it was hard to date once you became a Star Wars star, “because you don’t want to give people the ability to say ‘I had sex with Princess Leia.’ ”

Carrie is lit and shot so much better in the material we've seen from TLJ than she was for most of TFA.

That RO cartoon looks even worse when u see it situated next to ANH Leia.

Yes. Either way it won't be the same. I don't envy them this is not easy. I love how Leia is wide awake even as a baby.

completely agree with both these points. I seriously don't know how they screwed up that CGI so much. her basic features are way off. We still have such a long way to go before we're out of the uncanny valley.

In general I loved the design of TFA but have to say the lighting a lot of the time looked very TV Movie.

How Carrie Fisher's Family Will Celebrate Her First Birthday Since Her Death

Saturday will mark Carrie Fisher's first birthday since her death—a bittersweet day for her family, including her daughter, Billie Lourd, and her brother, Todd Fisher.

E! News caught up with Todd who opened up about what the day will mean for both him and his niece. "You can be sure that Billie and I will have a moment in reflection on Carrie's day," he told us.

In fact, when he thinks back on his late sister and her birthdays in years past, he remembers how she touched so many people.

"I remember all the great things that she said and the example that she set for so many other women," Todd said. "I see people almost every day that come up to me and hug me and tell me what an amazing inspiration that she was, as a survivor and a woman who stood up for what she believes in. It's amazing how many people recognized her for that."

He continued, "Carrie was truly a great example in that category—is a great survivor, a great woman who stood up for what she believed in and spoke out clearly and so articulately like nobody I ever saw."

Todd noted that despite being "afflicted with mental illness," Carrie was "crystal clear in her articulations of how she felt and what so many of us were feeling. She was a great example in those areas."

He added, "Was her life perfect? No. But whose is? It's not about that, it's about the example, it's about helping other people and with that in mind I think she did amazing things and accomplished as much as anybody."

Those reasons also make mourning Carrie's death all the more difficult—not to mention, with the added loss of Debbie Reynolds.

"Certainly we are all still dealing with the difference of life here," Todd explained. "It's a substantial change in the planet when you remove Carrie and Debbie from it. It's a huge vacuum that nobody could ever fill so you move on and you try to live your life without that presence, which, we will because we are survivors—and we were trained by Debbie."

He continued, "Debbie was clearly the matriarch, clearly the person who orchestrated large family events and reeled everybody in for decades. She was the pied piper that we all followed and she could get Carrie and myself to come from four corners of the earth, if necessary, to participate in an event. And she did!"

As for Billie, Todd said time will continue to help her move forward in a positive direction.

"I think [Billie is] doing very well," he explained. "She is dealing with it remarkably. I think she'll make a great role model in her time as well, having grown up around two amazing women. I think she is going to reflect that in her future."
