I never said it wasn’t solid. I just don’t know how excited Disney is going to be about ‘solid’.

Eh.. doubtful. I've never bought into that theory, particularly with Star Wars because people blatantly go radio silent leading up to release on any type of review to prevent spoilers. That's why Opening Weekend has tended to be bulletproof. And, in general, if you're sold on watching the movie, wild ice dogs couldn't keep you away, if only to see what everyone is belly-aching about so you can talk about it.

But whether you go again(and repeatedly) is directly a factor of the movie itself. You can't make people go back(although who knows.. Disney might have a team working on that #sarcasm).

The film is projected to make 1.5 or so billion at the box office, and become one of the most successful films in history.

Do you honestly, seriously imagine Disney-Lucasfilm is clutching pearls over that?

    .

They would be dissapointed if it only made Rogue One type of money. But that isn't going to happen. It will pass the billion dollar mark by New Years and it will be opening in China on the 5th. 1.2 billion is almost a lock.

You don't need to work in the accounting department to get a good guess of what their revenue expectations are. They are a publicly traded company and they publicly announce their revenue expectations. Granted, they do it by divisions (i.e. film division, amusement parks division, etc) and not individual movies but industry insiders can pretty quickly and easily do the math.

Is there any chance that future films will lose money? That would be my hope.

    When it's likey to be a top 5 all-time grosser? I can't imagine that doesn't excite them.

I think it’ll make around 1.3 which is a little more than Rogue One. The drop should concern the mouse.

After the one-two punch of The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi? Oh god, yes. They clearly don't care about anything except making money.

Anyone here who has done that would have come to the inescapable conclusion that TLJ is underperforming relative to expectations.
Bad films deserve to lose money. Now, TLJ certainly is going to turn a profit..... but not as much as expected and it will be bad enough to generate residual concerns.

I'm sure that, based off your projections, "The Mouse" is absolutely clutching it's collective pearls.

If that were the case they'd go full fan-service & have Luke the hero dispatching all of the bad guys Force Unleashed style. If maximizing $$ was their sole priority we'd have a very different Ep VIII.

You'd be amazed at how investors and stockholders react when corporations fail to meet revenue projections.
As I mentioned before, TLJ will turn a profit. But if I may speak in generalities, bad movies losing money does improve my life because it improves the quality of movies going forward. That's why I like to see good movies do well and bad movies do poorly at the box office. It encourages more good movies (and fewer bad movies) to be made.
Don't fool yourself: Maximizing $$ is their sole priority.

Disney's a big company. A few million off on a Star Wars movie won't do much.

A "few million" won't do much. $100 million, however, will.

I really can't see how a Star Wars fan would like The Last Jedi, it's completely baffling to me. Honestly, when one watches The Last Jedi, one gets the impression that they hate everything that Star Wars is, I don't think that's even an exaggeration. "Let the past die, kill it if you have to." People who lean to the left side of the political spectrum have a problem with history, for some reason. It's so disgusting.
This isn't my entire life, if that's what you're worrying about. This is my last bit of venting before I say goodbye to Star Wars forever. (MIGHT see Solo, based on the trailer, but if I do that will definitely be the end)

I disagree. They care about infusing the imaginations of those 8-12 year old girls and boys just being introduced to Star Wars, they care about those fans that see themselves in characters like Rose, Finn, Poe and Rey; they care in because Star Wars is more than films it's imagination, it's hope. its the smile those 6-8 year old girls and boys will get investing in characters like myself (as I did as a little girl in Leia Organa) and of course they are a business.

I disagree that they're marketing towards young girls and boys. They're trying to turn Star Wars into a little girl's anime fairytale, as well as making sure to remind male fans that they're "not being catered to", as Kathleen Kennedy said. They're clearly going for the pink-haired social justice crowd as well.

Its astonishing that, basically, pretty much everyone is doing exactly what we all said we wouldn’t do even two years ago: compare TLJ’s box office to TFA. I suppose it was inevitable. Of course, the comparison is mainly being used for cynical purposes.

This has become a very ugly place.
