Yeah, I love that the Raddus was in part inspired by a Ralph MacQuarrie design for the MC80. I really think that the creative team behind TLJ knocked the Resistance ships out of the park. The Mandator IV-class Siege Dreadnought is starting to grow on me... though it is definitely another example of the careless design philosophy of the Empire/First Order. :p

It is not, but we are outside the spoiler period, so no tags are required.

Nope. Take out the slash in the first tag.

But don't worry, as Nick said I don't think they're needed for this thread anymore.

So I've continued to play around in a Empire at War and I think I've found the best way to utilize a Super Star Destroyer.

    As a one-ship-armada raider.

With it's ridiculously powerful shields and overwhelming array of weapons, that Dreadnought can't be stopped by anything less than an armada-level collection of firepower. Any defense fleet weaker than that just don't stand a chance.

I was playing as the New Republic against the Imperial Remnant and Empire of the Hand and after losing Pesitiin and Adumar to an Ascendancy fleet, I realized the best way to fight back was with a force they couldn't counter easily. So I sent the Lusankya to retake those systems.

    By itself.

Because unless you're facing more than six Star Destroyer level ships, all you really need is the SSD. After crushing the EoTH easily, it occurred to me that they didn't have an ship equivalent to the Lusankya. So I decided to be a bit reckless and in the Zsinj tradition I sent my SSD all over the Unknown Regions, crushing enemy fleets with abandon and blasting shipyards to atoms.

It was all too easy to wreak havoc behind enemy lines and leave their holdings in utter disarray. I bit off a bit more than I could chew at Crustai and had to retreat but I took out Thrawn's clone before I left.

The best way to kill an SSD really is with a swarm of bombers and almost no capital ships. Even if you do amass enough capital ships to overwhelm an SSD, it'll take a great many of them with it. This mod really is a blast. Really glad I discovered it right before the holidays.

Is it just me, or does this thread have four blank pages?

Several threads have been exhibiting this issue recently. I think it's a site problem due to the switchover to XenForo, that will eventually get fixed.

How does that mod handle the Executor-class's starfighter capacity? To me that's what could make the ship a really insane threat as a raider - not only is it heavily armed and shielded, but assuming the fighter capacity is more proportional to the Legends stats for the Eclipse-class it could be loaded with hundreds of fighters. It could carry a large complement of hyperspace-capable strike fighters to launch independent raids and/or carry swarms of defensive interceptors to overwhelm any bomber attacks, either one of which would make it even more of a terror as a heavy raider.

Some years ago I was fooling around with the notion of a post-Legacy fleet for the Legends continuity, and that was my dividing line between Star Defenders and Star Dreadnoughts - the former were command ships/supercarriers serving as the flagship for an entire fleet, while the latter were independent raiders designed almost purely for ship-to-ship combat and starfighter ops.

I've pondered the idea of post-Legacy naval forces myself. I think the emergence of the Imperious-class signals the comeback of larger ships. Battlecruisers, and maybe a few dreadnoughts would be built or re-commissioned to serve as command ships. Still I don't think destroyers will be dropped any time soon as the standard size.

So, are we happy with the depiction of shields in TLJ? Far as I can tell they're shields ala Gungan Shields. Once you get under them they provide no more protection (very clearly shown with the fighters attacking). I don't find this depiction of them very favorable.

Unless this is the "experimental" (stated above) nature of these new shields, I find them extremely lacking. If the First Order had deployed bombers (I need new TIE Bombers J.J.) and got them under the shields they would've decimated the Raddus it seems.

Can I go on to talk about just how incompetent everyone involved was in that ship chase? The FO either doesn't have bombers or chose not to deploy bombers. The TIE Silencer is supposedly the next generation TIE Interceptor but only Kylo has one (I understand the need for a hero/villain ship though).

Also why was Snoke's ship firing lobbed shots of turbolaser fire? Since when have turbolasers lobbed shots...ever?
