ST The Sad Fate of Chewbacca, R2-D2 and Threepio...

I find it hard to believe that they will kill Leia off screen personally, but there are only a few choices they have really and thats either either recast, CGI her or not have her in the film.

 

Have we seen Threepio translate (in an actual episode) since ROTJ?

 

The closes isnin TFA, when we the viewer see a conversation between Artoo and BB-8.

We, the viewer, have no idea what they're saying until Threepio comes in.

But in terms of actually translating something, as per his protocol, no.

 

I understand why R2 has almost no screen time, but 3PO should definitely get some more in episode 9

 

The problem is that everyone except Luke and R2 are ******** to 3PO. Poe was a jerk to him at the end of Ep8 too. I feel sorry for 3PO. He deserves better. Hope him and R2 are just written out of Ep9. I just keep wanting more when I see them...its a disservice to them as characters and to the movie as well.

 

I think they were going for the Han approach with Poe. But they really don't have a choice but to be nicer. I'll be pissed if they treat him anything other than gold. He hasn't had his best friend in a while, he lost his master Luke and now Leia? And he hasn't done any translating. Better off to just get the Ackbar treatment at this point.

 

Definitely will not happen. Same reason the Jedi will not end. To regognizible.

BB8 is R2 on steroids. Rey may not need a translator as well moving forwards. So 3PO isnt needed.

 

Didn’t we see her communicate with aliens on Jakku? Even Finn talked to some at the bar.

I’m telling you they made these ST kids too strong for their own good. I know 3P0 wasn’t with them in TFA, but I feel like he should have been. Should have been found in the sands of Jakku or something with the falcon turned off.

 

They should expand the spymaster angle more for 3PO.

 

Threepio could be needed for Poe and Finn though.

 

And it's not like Rey knowing some alien languages means she must be knowledgeable in every languages (forms of communication) in existence.

 

All 9 million that C-3PO knows.

 

I'm still thinking about Artoo, and I'm not worried about 3PO.

Chewie, IMO, has been doing well. I thought his role in TLJ was actually pretty good. He's involved in affairs and I got the sense it's because he wants to be. He's so tied to the Falcon that he can't NOT have a role in the ST. Rey and Chewie can communicate and I think Chewie really likes Rey and Finn. I think he's okay. I also content myself that Chewie has a family on Kashyyyk. He's not as alone with Han gone as he might seem.

 

It's still sad to see Chewie without his pilot Han, but at least he is the captain now.

 

Actually, Return of the jedi is the only movie where 3PO translated anything, except R2's bips of course (but he did that in the PT too). In ESB, he at least informed Han and Leia that the signal the probe droid produced was not a rebel code. But no real translation anywhere in the saga except for Jabba, Boushh and the ewoks.

 

So your saying the only time he does his job is in ROTJ?

At least his functionality is heavily stressed in ANH. Owen buys him because of his many functions, and he lets Luke know that he's an interpreter for the Rebellion.

And, like you mention, he does interpret for R2 quite a lot.

And he's got a solid, strong place in each OT film, regardless of what he's doing.

 

I am sure they will not get rid of R2. He is like a pair with 3P0

 

Instead of the Falcon's dice, at the end of Episode IX, the good guys will leave the droids with Kylo.

Making him yell out another "NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! "

 

Yeah, it's not clear what 3PO actually does.
General Leia: "Threepio, get me a coffee"
And he awkwardly tries to pickup and drop in a Nespresso pod into the machine with his metal hands....

 

Wipe that worried expression off your face. Thats what he does. He worries like all the time. Hence all the odds.

 

R2 will remain the one and only droid who can tell the full story of the Skywalker family, from young Anakin to old Luke.
Chewie will probably stand next to Rey.
