I could really envision a situation where his butt is in a sling (ie, losing end of a Hux coup) where no one knows what happened and the bond opens up. Rey may think he is a turd at that point, but she's pretty compassionate, and she has to bail him out.

    I agree.

Besides Kylo thinks needing people is a weakness.
So him reaching out to Rey will show his weakness which he doesnt want.

Also he doesnt seem to force Rey to interact with him.
So yeah he will leave her alone.

But i do think they will miss each other.

I think they will meet regarding whatever Kylo does with his vision of the galaxy and how its affecting the people of the galaxy.

I would like an scene like when Leia sensed Kylo's regret for murdering his father...
Something like Rey feeling Kylo's deception or something, then she tries to "connect" through a Skype session, to find out what's going on...

    Its a really possible scenario.
But i dont think it will happen.

Rey saving Kylo, wont earn Kylo any sympathies or redemption.
Kylo needs to be the one who should do the saving.

Thats why in TLJ, Kylo killing Snoke and saving Rey earned him so many points with the audience.

Besides narratively too, it will gain nothing for Rey and Kylo.

Rey is a savior, we know that.
Rey saving Kylo will do nothing for Rey's character.

Kylo getting saved by Rey bcoz he was betrayed, will mean he only joined with the heroes bcoz Hux betrayed him.
That again is not Kylo's own choice.

Thats why i think Kylo will do the saving and not Rey's( she doesnt need saving) but the people of the galaxy.
That will earn him his redemption.

Rey will forge her own path and make a name for herself.

They will fight together, of that i am sure, but they cant depend too much on each other as characters.
    They need do things separately.

Do you think its possible that Rey tries to help him over Hux.. And tries to make a connection and he shuts her off? As a way to keep her away from Hux and his business???
And that would obviously make her more curious about it.. Cause its Rey XD

I don't really see Rey as a savior. She's more of a pragmatist than Luke was, for instance. Her plan about saving Ben was only under the condition that she thought it would end the war AND Luke wouldn't go with her request that he come back. This doesn't mean it's not heartfelt, but it is not at all the unconditional thing that Luke saving Vader was.

Wow I just saw Black Panther and I have to say, I think Ben might get Killmonger's ending.

    Spoiler:
Killmonger is given a tragic story, and very justifying motivations, though his actions are very extreme and cruel and evil. He's sympathetic, and honestly you feel bad for him because he does think that his way is a way to save his people, but in the end he's an evil man. He's a product of his environment. But he's still family, and referred to as such.

But his bloodline or sad backstory/motivations never serve to bail him out, they serve to make him a good character.

But even through all that, though he's defeated, T'Challa offers him a way to survive, but Killmonger takes his whole life because he knows that if he survives he'll just be imprisoned. It's realistic, but it's still truly sad because in a way he's always been in prison trying to fight his way out.

But all of this doesn't stop him from being an amazing and compelling villain because the audience is able to truly know him through and through, and sympathize with him. But the rest of the heroes (besides T'Challa) wouldn't. Erik knew this and did what he had to do.

I feel like Ben might be comparable to him in a few ways.

But again, this is just my interpretation using comparisons to other villains that are technically in the Disney family. Happy to hear what you guys might think.

(also, i feel like Killmonger and T'challa would've made a great black panther team)

Wow are they trying to send a message here? I think its a good story, but since Ben is a Solo and a Skywalker...
And he doesn't need a better ending because of his bloodline, actually we need it.

I love Killmonger so this is a good question. This is how I see their differences including the end (I'll put it in spoilers just in case):

Kylo's fate, whichever it is, gives closure to the Skywalker saga (whether their bloodline will continue or not). It's really hard to give Kylo an ending that won't affect how we see the Skywalker Saga retroactively. And from business stand point (more Sky-Solos, yes or no?). That's why I hesitate to call death. I could see something like Mortis realm but total end of ends, not so sure.

BP universe is much more steeped in reality so his particular line was a historical reference and therefore suitable for the ending. I don't see what historical referencing would work in Kylo and SW case. Certainly not the same one.

Romance. Rey and Kylo are the main couple of ST. Killmonger is a loner who didn't bond with anyone. Therefore, Kylo's reign is going to be different as will be the showdown with the main heroine.

Killmonger's reign was designed to be overthrown fast by T'Challa. We don't know how Kylo's will go but Hux's ominous lurking at the end of the movie is interesting and opens possibilities for something more than just FO vs Rebels. Also, there's the question of balance of the Force.

That said, if they find the way to bring Killmonger back, I'll be all too happy and I see ways how they could do it.

    Could be.

I think Rey will be busy with rebuilding the resistance and becoming a jedi.

Kylo will be busy with ruling.

But they will meet for sure. Have to.

    I completely agree.

    Kylo and Killmonger are different.

Kylo's story is the product of 3 generations of the Skywalker family of heroes.
They are the title characters whose family story we are watching for YEARS.
His ending will conclude this saga and this tragic family's fate.

So yes Killmonger is a good character and we need such characters in our movies.

But Kylo is a different case.
We dont know his full story yet for a reason.
They are keeping a tight lid on it.

And i am sure he and this family will get a fitting end that will justify the 40 years of emotional investment in this family.

The difference for me is that Killmonger’s justifications were sociopolitical. I did understand and sympathize with his motives to some extent, given the horrific treatment of people of African descent throughout history both in the United States and via the colonization of African countries by Europeans. I could completely see why he felt that it was both a waste and demonstrated an absence of principle for Wakandas to safeguard their resources. That’s why I liked T’Challa’s solution at the end so much.

I can’t think of an understandable motive for Kylo to ally with the First Order. I have said at one time that I could see him resenting the New Republic for the way they treated his mother after she was revealed to be Darth Vader’s daughter, and if IX runs with that, I might be able to get on board.

It’s also possible that we’ll get a similar childhood flashback to young Ben wanting to do something equating to Killmonger wanting to see a Wakanda sunset. I can’t see Rey in the equivalent of T’Challa’s role there though.

Wouldn't it be kind of late for that considering that her becoming a political pariah would have been far more relevant information to learn in The Force Awakens?

I meant to allude some comparisons between T'Challa and Rey in this case given that they both have a connection to the main villain and sympathized with them. Except in T'Challa's case he sympathized with him till Erik's death. Ben is in the type of position where he'd have to definitely work (and I mean WORK) to re-earn Rey's sympathies, if he ever manages to anyway

The similarities between Killmonger and Kylo Ren are downright scary. Both can claim Royal blood, both felt they suffered betrayal and abandonment, both men killed someone they cared about (Kylo killed Han and Killmonger killed his girlfriend), both men have done the serial killer thing and kept trophies of their victims (Kylo's ash pile vs Killmonger's scars), both killed the Disc-One starter villain, and so far both have rejected redemption twice (Kylo Rejected Han's offer and Rey's assistance, Killmonger rejected both of T'Challa's offers.).

I really won't be surprised if Kylo's fate is similar to that of Killmonger. Having Rey offer to save his life is inline with Luke's example...and having him choose death sadly fits with Kylo's rather unstable emotional state.

    Oh ok.

Honestly i dont think Kylo will seek out Rey now.
She rejected him and he got the point.

Even in TLJ Kylo didnt do anything to get Rey to sympathise with him.
She did it anyway when she force bonded with him and found out his backstory.

I dont think Kylo will do anything to impress/get/woo Rey in 9 either.
He will do his own thing.
She will do her own thing.
And they will meet/collide when Kylo's decisions for the galaxy will have consequences for everyone.

    I think she did.

Why else would she touch hands with him and tell him he is not alone and it isnt too late.
That was BEFORE she saw her vision.

And the vision she saw moved her to tears.

So yeah i think she totally sympathised with him.

She even beat Luke for him.

    Thats a strong reaction.

Well, in order for her willingness to try to turn Ben to make any sense at all, we'd have to operate under the assumption that Ben wasn't already betraying Luke and his Jedi Order prior to what happened that night.

Luke's mistakes in her training pushed her to consider Kylo had a reason for his actions and that lead to her seeing a future where Kylo killed Snoke. What she didn't know was that Kylo had been planning to kill Snoke since the beginning of TLJ, and it wasn't for any altruistic reason.

    Define "training".

Considering that he destroyed the temple and killed many of the students (which should be an immediate red flag), I doubt he had any good intentions for anything he's done so far.
