I honestly thought that this was going to be a thread about Warwick Davis. For some reason seeing him excited me more than seeing Maul
What was Darth Mauls creepy final quote to Qi'ra again? It was a very Harvey Weinstein-esque quote that would have the #metoo movement foaming.
So not only was I not expecting to see Darth Maul show up, I wasn't even expecting a major reveal/plot twist at all, which made it even more of a WTF moment and I have to admit, is the closest any Star Wars film has come to achieving the iconic "No, I am your father" moment so far. Had I been expecting something, some big moment, I don't think it would have nearly the impact it had on me. Totally shocked that in 2018 I not only managed to go into a film unspoiled, but went in totally oblivious that there was a huge spoiler moment in the film at all. Question, maybe for another thread - the ending clearly sets up future Solo films. Do you think Disney is planning a Solo trilogy or a Solo/Fett/Obi-Wan trilogy? Because while I question the wisdom behind milking Solo for three films, a trilogy with films telling a complete story arc between three different characters that crossover between films, now THAT would be uber cool. If that's what Disney plans they should come out with it, it might actually boost ticket sales.
Cannot recall what he said but Dark Side force users would definitely do and say degrading things on any level so the metoo-ers pretty much would be wasting their time bothering with any "outrage"
I don’t think Maul was introduced for fun. No way. I’m sure they have a plan mapped out, and that’s great. Disney/Marvel know what they’re doing in this regard. Maul surviving TPM is hokey, sure. But it opened up a lot of storytelling potential, and in that regard I’ve been on board with the move.
Yeah something like that, said in a very sexual predator tone. Did he mean it in that "we're sooo gonna hook up baby' manner, or a strictly professional one? I watched the scene and was confused whether Maul and Qi'ra were going to find themselves in a romantic relationship (even if Qi'ra was an unwilling participant lol - but she still went to see him).
Ugh, look Maul isn’t going to Assualt anyone anytime soon. Stop trying to compare Harvey Weinstein to any fictional character. He is a real life **** bag and should be treated as such. Maul will never be in any such relationship. Ever. Sith are just horrible to everyone. It’s sorta their thing. Also Star Wars is not going to go into that territory with any character anytime soon.
I thought meant that in a threatening (spelling) way since his saber was ignited Like: Don't go out of line because I'll be watching you very closely.
I wonder how long he has had that Inquistor looking lightsaber. You know what would have been cool? Seeing him with the darksaber instead.
Are you (conveniently) ignoring that Qi'ra was in a similar relationship predicament... with a power-play-abuser-and-a-predator.... with Vos? And then, in the same paragraph, saying 'star wars wont go into that territory'. They already went there, during the very film... pay attention! Did you not see her shuddering at his unwanted wandering hands and innuendo? It certainly seemed like Maul said that line in a creepy sexually suggestive way to me. He wants to work verrrryyy close with her. Qi'ra was jumping out of the boiling water and into the fire below when it comes to inappropriate work relationships - poor girl. Its just surprising they are insisting on exploring this in a SW film in the wake of #Metoo - and Harveys arrest today (the day I saw the film and read about it while I was in the cinema even - so it was fresh on my mind) is chancey timing. It will be interesting to see how more people interpreted the scene.
OK, the god-awful comparisons between a scary, over the top Space Movie Villain and real-life sexual predators ends NOW.
Let’s drop the completely unnecesssary and, needless to say, totally innapropriate discussion that’s happening here. Thanks.
Well - are we allowed to talk about the line he said during the film? He said it in a very, I thought, sexually suggestive and inappropriate way. For this reason - when I read another post saying Qi'ra and Maul could be Reys parents - I actually thought 'hey thats somewhat more believable and plausible now - if that lines context is foreshadowing where things ultimately end up between the two of them'. And it would explain or pay tribute to a bunch of things, mostly tangential to this thread though (eg Solo meeting Rey in TFA and taking a liking to her - he was meeting his ex's daughter etc etc)
But Maul does nothing at the end of Solo. On the other hand Vader towards the end of Rogue One DID do something, something very, very big!! He showed us what one Sith Lord can do against a bunch of non-jedi/non-force user enemy combatants. Lord Vader rules!!
.....What about both warnings was hard to understand? No. We’re not going to discuss the imaginary sexual undertones to Maul’s dialogue. Drop it or I’m banning you.
"You and I are going to work much more closely". I'm going to guess a strictly professional one. Especially if the theory that he will try to make her his apprentice is confirmed, we know how he functioned with Savage, they never left each-other's side, sort of like a Jedi and their Padawan. Yup. I'm expecting him to be Maul in body and voice by his next appearance. Witwer is Maul at this point, no offense to Ray Park and Peter Serafinowicz.
I like the theory that Maul takes Qi'ra as apprentice (maybe shes force sensitive - even if she doesnt know it herself - explaining her 'gift' for doing bad things - aided by force attunement?) , maybe leading to Rey being their daughter. It would also assuage one of my other pet peeves of the film (carrie/natalie/daisy/emilia all look alike - at least this way we can pair another couple up as mother/daughter and have a reason to)
I am firmly opposed to everything you just said. If Maul's going to have children (through the aid of future technology that can create reproductive materials from regular cells, because I'm pretty sure that Maul has lost all of his reproductive organs), he should have them with Rook Kast. And speaking of, hoping for her to appear at one point now that Maul has made the jump back into movies.
