How about a little love for the A-wing pilot in 8, Tallie? She made more of an impression than some of the other names on that list.
I'm not sure why it would be weird to have at least a couple of Legends characters. If they utilize the Legends banner and have an introductory paragraph, what would be a problem then?
Don't loose hope! With great patience I awaited the day they'd give us an image of a female Muun. It took 14 years. But... it happened!
Well, I just hope they don't leave out the greatest female character in all of Star Wars: The Force !! Haha, just kidding. If I had a daughter I would definitely buy her this. (and secretly read it when she went asleep)
I kinda want it, but at the same time I am comprehensive about getting it. I will probably end up buying it though, as I am a sucker for reference books (this is a reference book right?) and would love to see more Ahsoka stuff, as well as images of some of my favourite novel characters.
Spoiler Yeah, the FFG guide Endless Vigil. (No I'm not 100% sure it's a female but I'm running with it )
I'm still waiting for (or perhaps just not aware of) a female Skakoan, or sex other than male, if they exist. Is there a Mama Tambor? I like that this book has so many illustrators with a wide variety of art styles. Chronicle Books says it's 8 x 10 inches and 232 pages and has more than 100 illustrations.
I like the idea of this book a lot but Amy Ratcliffe as the author does not fill me with a lot of confidence that the prose will be all that compelling compared with the artwork. Most of her writing on the official site seems to be articles with titles like "Top ten funny battle droid quotes" or "Why we love Lando's fashion sense" and whose content consists of Buzzfeed listicle clones.
To be frank, the content of the official website has left me pretty dismayed these last few years. Remember when we had articles with new lore, extensive notes/cut parts about reference books? Nowadays it's almost all about stormtrooper-shaped cupcakes and "top 10 moments" (the worst offenders are, of course, those "5 highlights from a trailer" article; I mean, seriously? It's less than 3-minute long!)
I'm really looking forward to characters that don't have official art for them yet. Like, everyone from BF:Twilight Company for instance. Hoping Challis, Roach, and Brand make an appearance. And all the Aftermath characters. Jas Emari, Jylia Shale, Adea Rite, Auxi Kray Korbin.
I really like the female-centric direction Star Wars is going in. Girls should LOVE and be a part of Star Wars
It's not a lore book, and we shouldn't expect it to be a lore book? That said, I hope we get things like character backstories and/or behind the scenes info. It doesn't have to be "new" but something like "this character, played by/created by/featured in [etc.] has the following bio..." It could be good as a launchpad for people to explore the content that said characters feature in. But we'll see. I don't think it's fair to prejudge the book because Amy writes TOS articles that are lists or whatever -- different content for different media. Amy also writes solid pieces, and is a good interviewer. You mean the TOS Blogs? Those are different than the main site content, and we got plenty of those back in the day too. I too really enjoyed those and would love to see them back, but anyway/
Is it not a lore book? I thought it was, albeit one sort of organized according to an OOU principle (that being that there hasn't previously been a female-centric lore book before). If I'm wrong and it's more of mixed IU/OOU history of the general female presence in SW, then I rescind any objections to Legend content... would be looking forward to it either way.
I'd love it if the book has stuff that's not just in-universe biography but stuff on the concept art, development, etc. I don't get the feeling that's what this is, though. And because this seems to be in-universe, there has to be at least some lore building because otherwise the majority of these biographies will be one or two sentences long. And I'm not down on her just because she writes lists, nothing she's done has really struck me as really interesting. She used to be on the Full of Sith podcast and her input there was not that memorable either. And also kind of limited for when it came to Star Wars books and comics for someone writing book like this. I guess we'll see.
Yeah, we'll see. The description says character profiles, so in all likelihood it's just an explanation of the character's summary. But I'm hoping it's background stuff too, I really am -- just because that would be really cool, and it would provide insights on how different female characters are created (and by whom). When I say I don't think it's a lore book -- lore isn't its purpose. It looks like it'll talk about the characters, yeah, but it's probably not like a reference book is what I mean. That doesn't seem to be its purpose. And anyway -- you're entitled to your opinion (and/or expectations) of course. I just felt the need to defend Amy because I think she's a very good voice in this fandom and I have nothing bad to say about her; she's always supportive of other people, and I appreciate that.
I haven't seen any text excerpts yet, but here are four illustrations that were shown at SDCC 2018, three of which were published on StarWars.com (link): Spoiler: Women of the Galaxy illustrations Ahsoka by Sara Kipin: Rey by Annie Wu: Padmé by Karen Hallion: (lovely!)
