Agree, we need another one where Betty Brant gets powers, also I'm disappointed that the gave him the standard spider-man suit.
What If ? was such a great concept. although at this point Marvel has played out so many scenario's for real, i'm not sure how much is left.
What if... Spider-Man, founding member of the Avengers? What if... Bishop created the X-men? What if... Tony Stark was the White King of Hellfire Club? What if... Freedom Force was real heroes? What if... Psylock joined Euroforce? What if... Black Widow did not betray the Ultimates? What if... Crom, leader of God Squad? What if... Rogue did not steal Ms. Marvel's powers and memories? What if... Xavier never built Cerebro? What if... Starjammers become the Guardians of the Galaxy? What if... Runaways did not travel back from 1907? What if... Dark Reign never ended? What if... Point Men saved the day? What if... Blue Condor survived? What if... Eric Brooks was chosen to be Captain Brittan? I can come up with more if you want?
LOL don't take it so seriously. i was joking about how many things they've played out back and forth. I'm sure there's a few left , yes.
Batman 51. I like this. Wayne on jury duty against Mr Freeze but he is the only one calling not guilty. X-Men Gold continues its quality recovery. Good issue. I don't know Captain Marvel's original origin but here we have an abusive father broken family history telling. Thanos is a busy guy. He has a splash page ending in both Thor 3 and in Infinity Countdown.
I don't know personally but according to Illuminating Comics: "Let’s start with her dad. Let me tell you something about Joseph Danvers: he was an *******, a dick, a stubborn fool, but you know, he was also a brave man. When Claremont’s introduces him the first time, we see him risk his own life to save the one of another man, and he stands up to crooked criminals that want to run him out of business. He was pigheaded, yes, but he was also a good person deep down, a hardworker who simply didn’t know how to deal with his daughter, and part of the charm was seeing Carol both grow out of her animosity with him and simultaneously realize she got a lot of her temper from him, all in the span of a couple of issues, because Claremont is what we call in these circles “a good writer”, and made a character that had a little bit of texture to him. Then Brian Reed’s came along and made him an alcoholic. Ms. Marvel v2 #31. I cut Reed’s a lot of slack, but that was frankly unnecessary. Still, ok, it tied to Carol’s harder, and he portrayed as a self-destructing kind of alcoholic rather than actively malicious with everybody, and it was after his beloved eldest’s death, so you could understand he was completely broken… But here comes Margaret Stohl people, and according to her, Joseph Danvers was always an unabashed abuser who screwed up his children’s childhood, and Carol can’t even bring herself to THINK about him without going in a berserker rage and suffer a cardiac arrest! Why do this? What’s the point? Not only it is clichéd as hell, overused to the point of meaninglessness, it adds nothing to Carol’s character, except more empty soap opera angst. She already has countless other sources of drama and pain in her past, is an abusive dad really necessary? And God, what the **** is up with Marvel and dads?! They pulled the same **** with Joseph Rogers (how many joseph are there?) turning a problem with the bottle mentioned in passing into a full blown stereotypical irish knuckle fest. Can’t wait for the day Uncle Ben gets it, that’ll be fun." Going by this and Infinity Countdown: Captain Marvel do it really feel to me that writers think that the only way they can make Carol interesting is to give her more psychological issues
This week: Justice League Dark #1 Mr and Mrs X #1, giving this a try. X-Men Grand Design Second Genesis, don't know what this is but it's beautiful. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 The Sentry 2 Marvel Two in One #8 Infinity War Prime 1 The Brave and the Bold 6, which I missed last week. This is the conclusion of batman and WW in a fantasy land. X-Men Blue 32 X-23 #2 Wonder Woman 51 Old Man Logan 44 The Hellblazer 24 Action Comics 1001 Doomsday Clock #6...about friggin time. Saga 54....this is the last issue for a YEAR.
It wasn’t my favorite issue, but Marvel 2 in 1 still remains a good comic. It’s also the only thing I read single issues
Justice League Dark was indeed good. I didn't care for the series that spawned it so I'm glad this delivered. Doomsday Clock did an origin for Mime and Marionette aside from his ability to shoot bullets out of thin air. Infinity War prime; there is some new mystery character with a powerful sword who just cut off Thanos' head. Did ti right in the middle of a villain monologue.
I read that (Very large) Amazing Spider-Man #1, had a good combo of superheroics and Parker Luck. The final page, freakin' Peter Parker goes back to School and The Lizard is teaching is class. Not Curt Connors, the LIZARD! Is just a genius idea. Also fantastic usage of Mysterio in the issue. Also I realize this is a wee bit of a losing battle when it comes to Mysterio (and pretty much against the character's illusion ethos) but ASM #1 dropped a reference to it so it's fair game Mysterio blows his head off in Daredevil (Kevin Smtih) Mysterio comes back as a demon (Peter David, Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man) Mysterio just comes back normal as Quntin Beck (Brand New Day), no real explanation Mysterio it turns out it also Ultimate Mysterio and, due to jumping in between universes he knows Spider-Man's secret ID (Spider-Men, Bendis) So Mysterio also popped up in Scarlet Spider, recently (Peter David again) and I believe he dropped a reference to demons and so forth. So maybe the Mysterio blew his head off and had a demon stint is totally a thing. But why doesn't he know Parker (and possibly Miles!) ID? Well, I chalk that up to Secret War and Miles giving Molecule Man a cheeseburger so Molecule Man fixed Miles' life for him (gave him back his mother). So maybe he fixed the whole Mysterio knows who Spider-Man is thing. BUT in Amazing Spider-Man #1, Mysterio now is haunted by Demons who torment him about his time in the afterlife AND Mysterio shouts out that he knows all of Spider-Man's secrets, which the demon dismisses even calling Spider-Man "Pete". So kinda roundabout back to square one but I THINK there may be a Mysterio resurrection retcon and knowing about Peter Parker's ID explanation coming. Or maybe not. People tend to drop that every once in awhile. Hopefully!
Saga. Spoiler Mark was killed. Now we won't see anything further for a year. The Hellblazer, I didn't realize this was the last issue until i saw it said "Final Issue" on the cover.
Well, thanks to the King of Sweaties and to a lesser degree Kevin Smith I’m back into comics. And also in part due to the superhero movies. Haven’t read a comic since the Clone Wars issues waiting for ROTS. Getting American comics in Japan is expensive. I’m leary of of free online comics since I’m suspicious they may be illegal. On my iPhone I discovered comiXology, DC All Access, DC Comics, and Marvel Comics. Again, there’s the matter of cost and not getting too carried away getting caught up and keeping up. DC Comics has a few free “purchases”. Got every Batman B&W, New DC Universe, Essentials, Collectibles, and the first Detective Comics Batman and Action Comics Superman. Why do generous. After watching JL: War, maybe ¥1400 isn’t too bad for JL: Origin. And some individual issues are only ¥240, but it can add up if I’m not careful. And then lo, yesterday I discovered Marvel Unlimited. At only ¥1100 a month, this can’t be real. And while I knew that Marvel did SW comics 1977-1986 and resumed after the Disney acquisition of LFL, I didn’t know they had acquired the Dark Horse SW library. Or, at least some of it. Couldn’t find Son of Dathomir. So yesterday I got everything to do with Tales of the Jedi. Memory lane. Also, The Star Wars. Then I got all issues of Tomb of Dracula, the Official Handbook, as well as every Guide to the MCU available. As far as Marvel superhero series, I’m kinda lost. Spider-Man was my favorite until the hack known as Sam Raimi got a hold of Spidey. Didn’t bother with the first reboot. However, the most recent Spider-Man is good in the 2 MCU films I’ve seen (too busy to see Avengers 3). So, far starters I got The Avengers vs. X-Men as it combines 2 of the biggest Marvel ensembles. And now there’ll be DC Universe in the fall—at least in the US, hopefully in Japan as wel. Maybe I’ll save money and wait for that. Won’t be difficult knowing where to start.
Spider-Man just relaunched with another #1, good jumping on point but I think brand spankin new comics take awhile to hit the Marvel unlimited app
I’m a bit rusty. How many reboots have DC and Marvel had? It seems DC had 52 in 2011 and Rebirth in 2016.
