Full Series Official Star Wars Resistance Discussion Thread (Spoilers Allowed)

So I like most fo the characters i see, Griff, Fazon, Plo koon's twin and the love interest sure be my favorites. love old imprerials who searching for something new. Love to see him interact with the veteran rebel. love the ship designs. I love that it's mostly spying along with races. I bet first season ends with hosnian prime's destroction. season 2 begins 2 months before ep 9, i think they go for that. The anime style is growing on me still, don't like some of the faces like Poe. But seeing as this is for a younger aduince, i don't thik we see to mutch off the war. I actually hope we get one that centers around Rey between 8-9 to see her grrow like Anakin CW.

 

That's okay, I never got to post about our introduction to the Aces, anyway.

I thought the latest video looked pretty good. Characters with intriguing premises and designs (G. Halloran really caught my eye -- Gotta love those men and women with an Imperial history) and some of the shots (those set in space and the cockpit interiors) vaguely reminded me of the fan-made TIE Fighter project.


And that's something I've said for years that (maybe with a more SW-apropos soundtrack) I'd really be interested in seeing more of.

It's still far too soon for a truly informed opinion, but this latest offering has me cautiously optimistic that Filoni and Co. may be on to something.

 

I like most of what I’m seeing. Looks like heaps of fun. My main nitpick is that some of the ship designs are PT-level convoluted. Needed to be edited down a bit to simpler shapes.

 

Really wish they had pulled ships from the Old EU that had not had any screen time. Someone flying a hot-rodded Cloakshape and the Imp Pilot in a Tri-Fighter/Clutch from I, Jedi.

 

A hot-rod cloakshape would have been a great tribute to legends and show a real understanding of the ship, how it was often customised. A V-Wing airspeeder would have also been great (could have given it a new name).

Overall though I think the new designs are really good. They're much better than all the ST stuff, and better than a lot of old legends stuff (uglies).

 

Some of them are great. It’s just the over-designed ones, like the four-winged monstrosity pilots by Plo Koon’s cousin, that I don’t like. They seem like designs that would have been axed early on if this was a live action film. Early design stuff.

 

What? I think that one is the best!

It flies in the face of the successful design paradigm of Star Wars: simple, recognizable shapes. It’s too much. Looks more like the designs one sees in lesser sci-fi franchises. Cut some wings off, and it’d be great. Better yet: let Doug Chuang take a hack it. He’s the true heir to McQuarrie.

 

i'm looking forward to this series. i was hesitant at first but after watching the Aces featurette this series looks like it might be pretty good.

 

I'm still getting that younger audience vibe but it looks interesting I will give this a try for sure.

 

Of course, but not as much as that cringey reveal trailer.

 

Re Ship Designs:
Since this show is aimed at younger audiences, perhaps they decided for a more "showy" designs than what are normally seen in SW. The Aces and their ships plus their color schemes do remind me of shows such as Power Rangers/Super Sentai.

 

It's easy to forget what Rebels and, especially, TCW were like at the beginning. Resistance has to go on a similar journey! and as long as it gets 2-3 seasons minimum will see plenty of development and more mature direction, no doubt!

 

I personally liked the reveal trailer or teaser!

 

I get that. And I actually like all the bright colors, in that context. But that doesn’t excuse bad designs, IMO. In fact, I think aiming the series at a younger audience opens up to the door to an even more simple design aesthetic. But this is a minor nitpick. I kinda like what I’m seeing. And definitely prefer this animation style to TCW and Rebels.

Number 2 and 6 are great designs, and number 5 is good. The first one is god awful (like a rejected Transformer design), the third is way too convoluted but OK, the fourth is too similar to the terrible ARC-whatever fighters from ROTS. They just need a bit more editing. Bring Chiang in here and he’ll whittle them down to perfection.

 

There are now video discussions on this that suggest Oban Star Racers has played a part in its inspiration!

All I can say is why that's a bad thing?

 

I like all the ships they all have a PT Feel to them and I dig it!
