I hope Cassian's first mission has something to do with the Ewoks. Draven: "You're going to Endor, Andor."
Seriously, the list of potential cameos for this show... Vader, Palpatine, Fett, Sloane, Jabba, Enfys Nest, Qi'ra, Saw, Draven, Mon Mothma, Dodonna, Hera and the Rebels crew, Thrawn, Ahsoka... and none of those are necessarily just wishful thinking. We actually live in a world where any of those cameos could actually happen! It will be a long wait until 2020.
IDK that sounds exactly like what a mid-90s LucasArts game would be called. Perfect for our mid-90s edgy spy thriller hero.
Ian McDiarmid did voice work on Rebels, and he's currently in a trashy live-action fantasy series on Amazon Prime. I'm sure it's not prohibitively expensive for Disney to afford casting him for their own live-action streaming show. Especially if it's for hologram appearances that can justify low-quality second-unit shooting and limited interaction with other actors/sets.
This is amazing for all the reasons I have heard everyone say, but no one seems to mentioning that Airen Cracken could totally be a character in this show (particularly if they can't get Draven back).
I have mixed feelings about this. Diego Luna is a fantastic actor, but he's 38. Cassian was canonically 26 when he died in Rogue One. And they can't really change his age because Cassian's rant in Rogue One about how "I was a rebel since I was 6 years old!" locks him into the circa 26 year old range as of 0 BBY, assuming he was talking about the Clone Wars. Both Jyn and Cassian were already cast with actors 10 years older than their characters, and if Cassian is in a prequel and as Diego gets older, that distance between his real life age and his character's age will get wider. If this series goes on a while, it's going to be jarring for the audience to see a 40+ year old actor playing a twenty something, and I'm not sure they are going to CGI every scene to deage him 20 years--I don't think there's just the budget for that in television.
Better Call Saul has Bob Odenkirk playing his Breaking Bad character more than a decade younger than he actually is. And you'd be surprised just how many actresses are being digitally touched up on television: I became particularly aware of it watching Calista Flockhart on Supergirl. It's not the same expensive de-aging tech used in, like, Ant-Man, it's more of an "animated photoshop" of sorts that maps 2D textures onto the actress' face.
Whatever, I've seen so many shows where people in their 30s play teenagers that a show where a guy who's 38 is playing someone in his 20s isn't a big deal. Also, Fest being an winter planet is probably very dry and that can't do good things for one's skin. Add to that the stress of being in the Rebellion. Maybe he went to a nice spa right before Rogue One to rejuvenate himself.
It's the dark side. Cassian was probably using Force lightning to zap anyone who didn't start declaring Mon Mothma a goddess. And all that dark side usage aged him prematurely. By at least 2 decades apparently. When he declared in Rogue One that he did shady things for the Rebellion, it was obviously a massive understatement. The series finale of the Cassian show will probably have him falling into a pit of bacta so that he comes out much younger in time for Rogue One. Can't wait how, after Rogue One made such a big deal of Cassian disobeying Draven's orders, he will probably disobey orders every other episode in this prequel show. Which makes me wonder if Draven is showing up in this prequel too? Do these sci-fi franchises even bother to announce series titles anymore? Apparently they just identify them by famous character. Over at Star Trek, we're talking about that Picard show and now in here we're talking about the Cassian show. Bizarre.
Plus people aged harder back in the space '70s. Too many death sticks, we didn't know they caused death back then, despite, y'know, the name.
If we really needed a spy show, I'm still saying they should have brought in Denis Lawson to be Wedge leading a group of agents in Agents of the New Republic. Kazuda: Hail Snoke! Wedge: Kazuda?! You're... First Order?!!
While I would like to see Maul/Qi'Ra and Crimson Dawn fleshed out in a different story (frankly, you'd figure that collapsed real quick like cuz Maul ends up dumped on Malachor). But I do think Enfy's Nest and her wacky Cloud Riders would be great to see on this show, I ain't exactly jonesing for a TV or movie about them but they'd be good Rebellion background. more Weazel! Why did Two Tubes turn to the dark side and join Saw?! hahah that's actually a great point. Him not taking out Gallen Erso is a huge moment, silent, that he stands up for himself. You get the feeling he's finally saying no to Draven who seems like he's been putting poor Cassian out on wetwork black ops for awhile. Cassian going Rogue every mission for a TV show will definitely devalue that bit. "Hey, Cassian didn't take out Gallen Erso!" "Again?! This is just like those last 4 seasons worth were he went against the mission parameters!"
meh a completely forgettable character whose name I wouldn't even remember if it wasn't in the OP I guess they might do something decent with his separatist backstory, maybe
I have been just squee about this news every time I think about it. I have never understood the complaints about the characters in Rogue One, I love them, my heart breaks every time the way Diego Luna hits "SIX years old". I can't wait for this.
Crap, they just announced they're finally going to go forward with a Wheel of Time TV series and now two major SF/Fantasy TV series are going to have an Andor in them and fans are going to be confused *tugs braid furiously*
i'm pretty sure this is lost in the chaos but the streaming service has been bestowed the name Disney+. And it has a live website! You can sign up for email updates! https://preview.disneyplus.com as a Canadian it forwards me to a /ca/ domain which could mean 1) yay, we're getting it in Canada launch date and it's sending us there 2) boo we aren't launching in Canada and the forward is just "Look at this US only content!" If/when this launches live in Canada is the most important thing I needs to know now.
Since we have already got a bunch of dark times/OT era content about the Rebellion, I think a series from the Empires perspective would have been preferential for me. Following a group of stormtroopers, to seeing Tie pilots, an Inquisitor, etc.
