Technically Han agreed to die, he did not know his own son. Kylo asked Han, “to free him,” and will he “help me.” Kylo asked his papa for help to go deeper into the Dark Side. Han thought Kylo wanted to “come home,” but he underestimated “the power of the Dark Side” and how Ben trusts no family members after Luke’s betrayal.

 

No. Kylo murdered him, Han didn’t technically agree to die. I don’t care who “Ben” trusted or not.

 

What I am saying is Han thought he was agreeing to Kylo coming home and laying down his dark mantel, but Ben was actually asking Han for permission to purge his pain and be rid of his attachment to Han and become a greater acolyte of Darkness.

 

So Kylo is a liar and manipulator as well as a patricidal murdering fascist. I think we knew that.

Han DID NOT AGREE to be murdered.

 

Actually Han did agree to die from Kylo’s “certain point of view” but yes it was manipulative because Kylo did not say, “hey Dad, I want to be a greater Darksider, can I impale you with my lightsaber?”

 

So your point is... what, exactly? I don’t care what Kylo thinks or believes about anything.

 

My point is in the exchange on the bridge, Han thinks he’s redeeming his son, Kylo is asking for premission to cut off his Solo bloodline. In the conversation their prespectives are vastly different.

 

In all seriousness though, that definitely intended perspective thing with Kylo and Han is a pretty dark undertone to their dialogue.

 

It is indeed. JJ csn go dark when he wants to.

 

So, did we learn anything new about his character in the new film yet?

 

Unlikely to as Mark said security around him is like the CIA.

I had a similar thought -- with a twist. Perhaps the cloaked figure they fight is Palpatine's spirit in Luke's body (possibly cloned from his hand)? Silly or not, the original opening shot of TFA was Luke's severed hand floating through space. That hand was clearly on JJ's mind, EU-style.

 

The teaser shows us that he most likely doesn't have the mask back on at the start of the film, and that he even fights without it, so it's reasonable to speculate that something happens within the story to make him want to don the mask again.

 

Most likely his Cult of Vader sympathies. He is strongest we he tries to emulate his grandfather, case and point TFA.

 

It would be cool to see Kylo stop not one laser bolt, but like 5 or 6 in ROS. That would be a very simple short hand for Kylo's escalating power, and it would be a great visual.

I always thought it would be interesting to see a force user, with a wave of a hand, make their attacker's weapon incredibly heavy as to make the attacker fall to the ground with the weapon. Maybe if it's a blaster or lightsaber it completely shorts out and catches fire. This is the kind of defensive stuff I imagined a ST Luke doing while he was alive. The "heavy" weapon thing would just be a form of mind trick. He doesn't actually change the physical property of the metal, just bends the mind of the attacker so they THINK their weapon is suddenly incredibly heavy, too heavy to lift.

 

I would have loved to see Luke disable a person’s use of a weapon or use Force Severe, causing Kylo Ren to be disconnected from the Force for 15secs. The problem is precedence, if it happens once, it could be abused over and over in the future; besides a Lightsaber according to Jedi Path is bonded to a Jedi and the Force flows through both saber and Jedi; ergo unlikely it could be disabled.

 

If JJ says Luke isn't dead, that would be awesome. It would totally alter my view of TLJ's poor treatment of Luke. We'd have a chance finally to see Jedi Master Luke in true form.

I would consider that a retcon, for sure. Not just a twist.

 

Funny how the only one in that pic still not interested is Harrison Ford.
