I agree that it was good. And I don't like how the fandom treated that scene. I don't like TLJ but I felt for months that was the scene "everyone" liked, even those who hated TLJ, so the most toxic parts of our fandom had to prove that even that scene was bad, so there is nothing you can like about TLJ.

 

For some reason, this reminds me of the ROTS colour-changing lightsaber toys.

Before he became a Jedi? One, Jedi are initiated at an extremely young age, and two, it wouldn't add anything to Yoda's character or enhance the story told with it. It's, Yoda having offspring for the sake of Yoda having offspring so we can have a not-Yoda in future stories, and we don't need retcons for the sake of retcons. Ohhh, scandalous! Yoda broke his Jedi vows! Why do we need that? Yoda also wasn't a psychopath so we can assume some level of love involved if this absolutely needs to be canonized; it wouldn't involve rape, a harem, or character assassination by rendering him the inept architect of his own demise. Your extrapolation of how Palpatine's children are possible isn't logically sound either, so lord knows how they're going to explain this (hint: they won't, because in classic J.J. fashion he's just going to put in into the film and expect us to buy into it immediately). Either way, Palpatine will be portrayed as less competent and in-control than he was previously, which does a disservice not only to the character, but to the story of Star Wars in general. And for what? To give Rey a backstory? They couldn't come up with anything better?

But that`s exactly my point. If the message is that the good guys having kids is a mistake they all need to die for and that needs fixing, it is horrible to say "but the bad guys can totally have kids and it turns out just awesome-cakes". That kind of message is horrible.

The jedi do not have kids because of the risk of attachment, which risks emotional wellbeing and so could result in falling to the dark. but the dark side doesn't need to worry about that stuff. but then a dark sider probably wouldn't have much attachment either way.

 

The Darkside is selfish.. having children requires giving of your self physically.. Palpy ain't even going to give that

 

I didn’t say there were notable story strengths if someone wanted to pursue that tale, or younger Yoda, or make a tragic tale involving a family of his from centuries back. I was just curious why you said that initially and what your hang up would be.

But I can see now that your issue was more with Palpatine’s situation, which is fine of course.

One aspect I do find strange though is your concern about him being the architect of his own demise. Especially when you consider the variables he left dangling between Vader’s past as Anakin and the future he crafted for him as Vader. At least here it’s possible his son was just a disappointment to him, or was weaker than he or Rey is with the Force, or that this was his one personal dark side weak spot in his own life beyond arrogance, or that he’d simply underestimated the way in which his son having his own child would come back to impact him because he’d assessed his son and assumed him to be of no concern.

 

The most likeable character in TLJ btw. Shocker, the honorable and competent villain is so rare thing in ST that it made everyone else look bland or unsympathetic.

 

Sex is also natural, and the dark side is all about the perversion of nature, such as the manipulation of midi-chlorians and the artificial creation of life.

Every villain requires an Achilles' heel of some sort, otherwise they're indomitable to the point of either rendering the story pointless, or necessitating the use of a deus ex machina. Palpatine's existing weakness was enough; Lucas presented us with a strong, vastly intelligent, and highly capable villain that imbued the struggles of our protagonists with greater meaning. Now they're bringing him back just to take him down a few pegs by adding even more fumbles? Vader was a fringe case--a surprise. Palpatine was confident in his ability to corrupt, and he found Vader beyond redemption; Sidious didn't create the conditions of his defeat, he simply underestimated Vader's capacity to change. So now if he has a son, that means he left even more loose ends dangling, which diminishes his competence.

 

Well yeah even if she is his granddaughter chances are he would use her more in an apprentice manner.

 

I don`t care about any of that if the outcome is the message that because of reason x, the good guys are not allowed kids but because of reason y, the bad kids should have kids all over and it will turn into the best thing ever. That just says the bad guys SHOULD get the perks because they are being bad guys and the good guys SHOULD get screwed over because they are being good guys. Not interested in such a tale at all.

Why do you assume the Palps kid was a son? Has this been specified? It could be either one of Rey`s parents.
