Yeah no one likes Layla. And technically she was created by the Origins team...

I wouldn't say I dislike Layla as intensely as the fanbase seems to. I'm indifferent. She's bland like Desmond was.

Desmond was a little better. He was just bland, while Layla is actively mean.

Plus Layla’s storyline is just so boring and irrelevant to the main story. Over the 80-100 hours I played of each game, she was only in them for several minutes. At least Desmond’s was an important part of the games. I also remember liking the present day stuff in Black Flag in that cool building.

Loved the present day stuff in Black Flag. It also tied in directly to Edward's story.

Digging through the unplayed indie titles on my Switch to figure out which to play next over the coming weeks, narrowed it down to the titles below. Any recommendations on which game you folks think I should take a shot at first? Celeste seems an obvious choice in terms of quality, given its GOTY nominee status last year, but that's not always the deciding factor, ya know?

    -Bastion
    -Celeste
    -Fe
    -Hollow Knight
    -The Messenger
    -The Way Remastered

I also have Transistor, but I feel I should probably play Bastion first, to get a better feel for that developer's evolution. I'm also holding off on Cuphead and Observer because I'll want to play them under more specific circumstances. Asphalt 9, Blazing Chrome and Yoku's Island Express are also reserve games for now, since I definitely want to give at least some of the others a go (plus, I played the Yoku demo, so I kinda know what I'm getting there already).

Unrelated, I tried to giving Killer Queen Black a go over the weekend, but had a hell of time trying to figure out how to do local multiplayer on it to the point where it didn't seem possible so I gave up. Apparently, though, it is a thing the game can do so I gotta look into it more. I did play through the tutorial, though, so I do see the depth-through-simplicity the game can create. Victory By Snail, I say!

Will eventually circle back around to playing it but I did buy it for a specific instance where i wanted a new local multiplayer game, so now that that has passed it'll be backburnered for a bit. Assuming Luigi's Mansion 3 doesn't sideline it immediately for that function next time I'm with friends for local multi.

I got Bastion for what turned out to be less than $2 after I used some of my Nintendo rewards points on it. Haven't played it yet, though. It's definitely up there on my list, but I have Fire Emblem Awakening on my 2DS to get through first before I do any more handheld type games.

    Hollow Knight.

It's not even a close competition.

Also been mopping up in AC Odyssey.

    Took out Arges.

Oh boy, I can well see why this guy would really hack people off. It's a big fight in a caldera so that renders poison useless, there's masses of fire damage, he even managed to inflict damage onto Kass despite skyhigh defence! Still died though.

Got Kass to the top of S4 mercenaries.

Now just doing stuff to hit Lv 99 and maybe try for a final ship upgrade or two.

For anyone in the UK Base have thrown down the gauntlet to their competition.

    The Outer Worlds £39.85

Some other really good offers below the £40 mark too, stuff like Shenmue 3 and the Yakuza Remastered collection.

Just finished Witcher 3 for the first time ( still have to do B&W).

My god this game was amazing. Im not sure i can play a better storytelling game.

Blew Bioware right the hell off of top storytellers for me.

Have you played God of War? For me that was the best storytelling in a recent game.

In my horrifically bad example of the first world problem of wanting to buy new games, while having multiple titles I haven't looked at, God of War is one!
Wait until you go to Toussaint.

As to the main game, I'll spoiler this as it's hit Switch:
Many games take the approach that you must save the world, but W3 doesn't. Instead it is you, as Geralt, protecting, but also supporting and enabling Ciri to save the world. It's a plot choice that very emphatically shows that it's not all about you, yet if you don't do it right, it all goes horribly wrong so your actions still matter.

Oh that's too bad. I never played those and didn't have much interest but 4 is amazing. Great story.

Agreed about The Witcher 3. One of my top 5 games of all time. Amazing story. Amazing characters. Amazing soundtrack. Amazing world building. It’s perfect really.

That Switch port is shockingly good, for the record. I picked it up because I couldn’t bring my PS4 overseas and DAMN. Guess it’ll be time for a replay soon.

It's probably the most miraculous port on the system, for sure.

When you look at how lousy the ports for certain last gen titles are (Saints Row III immediately leaps to mind.) I was under the impression that The Witcher 3 was impossible. But Saber clearly put a lot of thought and effort into it, making compromises that don't damage the core experience. Heck, it even retains most of the graphical features found in the original release, like dynamic lighting and water effects.

I haven't played my copy of Witcher 3 yet... I bought it like a year ago. But I have always had something else to play.

I'm finally playing through it right now. I like the characters and how sidequests unexpectedly turn into something and the brutal realism of having no great choices, but the setting feels pretty generic to me. Nothing really much to prevent mixing it up with Elder Scrolls and Dragon Age. I'm also not a big fan of things like the fast travel system (installed a mod to make it where I can fast travel from anywhere Skyrim-style). The combat is also meh and feels unbalanced. There are also things I don't understand about the lore. How do "normal" animals still exist with all those horrible monsters around? Why is anyone ever skeptical of anything magical?

I like it and I'm moving toward my goal of a polyamorous relationship with Triss and Yennefer. I think it's a bit overhyped though and people were/are just starving for games like this (expansive single-player experiences in a fantasy world without all the new monetization and "live experience" bull****). I know I was.
