Star Wars Insider 193 (the official Star Wars magazine) has an article detailing Rey and Kylo in TLJ and describes their arc as relationship abuse 101. The images are large, so I'm putting them under spoiler.

Wow is this for real? That's awesome. An article about relationship abuse shouldn't make me happy, but I'm just completely shocked to see the abusive dynamic acknowledge in an official publication.

 

The "Putting It Into Perspective section" is even more enlightening - especially the last paragraph.

I'm with you. Honestly, the reason I have such strong issues with romantic reylo is because of how dangerous I see it from Rey's POV.

And yeah, it's from this magazine.

You're welcome! I think the fact Daisy hasn't been shy about mentioning that it's toxic and this quote in particular:

“J.J. does deal with [it],” she added. “It’s a very complex issue. People talk about toxic relationships and whatever it is. It’s no joke and I think it’s dealt with really well because it’s not skimmed over.”

Really tells me they aren't going to ignore the abusive dynamic. Even if Ben Solo is redeemed and comes to help Rey. "It's no joke" really highlights for me that to Daisy, it's addressed.

I’m crazy excited to freaking finally see self awareness on the part of LF... but I still want to say that it pains me that they saddled their first female Jedi protagonist with this kind of trash.

 

Do you mean that the article's crap? Or that the debate on whether canonical Reylo is a thing is effectively over, as in, "Crap. What do we talk about now?"

Welp. It's nice of LFL, to acknowledge that Kylo is abusing and manipulating Rey, when for the last 2 years it's been a pretty ready stream of "Kylo isn't manipulating her", "Kylo is telling Rey the truth", or "Kylo wasn't trying to manipulate Rey". As if some of us are just crazy for noticing and being repelled by Reylo.

There you have it. There is no romantic Reylo. There isn't a moderate Reylo. At best you have an abused and manipulated person, teaming up with her abuser within an abusive cycle perpetuated by Kylo.

 

It’s like suddenly LF realized that RJ is full of it.

 

This. I'm ecstatic that they're actually acknowledging how messed up it is, but it's still sad that this had to be the story they told in the first place.

 

I'm looking forward to this response as well as the others.

Vetted? It’s published in a SW magazine. It’s an opinion peace.

I just realized, based on history this author is probably about to be the target of obscene social media harassment for stating fact and opinion disapproved of by some.

 

It's from the official Star Wars magazine. I don't really know how they go about approving articles for it but the simple fact LFL let it be published should say that the "abuse angle" is a very valid interpretation.
