That's...odd. I actually learned a lot of valuable moral lessons from Star Wars, movies, tv, Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers. My parents were certainly a part of that, but it was reinforced with things we watched as well, books, teachers, and life.

Pretty sure that's why Lucas made SW to begin with. There was so much amoral entertainment in the 70s, along with immoral politicians, that he wanted to tell a brighter story with a simple moral message.

If a kid grows up to think that it's OK to act Like Anakin did in Starwars, I'm sorry but I'm blaming the parents, not George Lucas.

Even if kids don’t take life lessons from Star Wars—and they probably don’t, although interestingly enough, some people don’t take issue with “look at your own dark side” or “anybody can be redeemed” as a life lesson—what exactly is the point of sending the message that “it is your responsibility as a woman to heal men who gaslight and abuse you”? Is that supposed to be entertaining?

The OT came out in the post-Vietnam, Reagan era. The notion that the enemy is human and deserves compassion was subversive for its time.

Nowadays the problem isn't that we dehumanize our enemies. The problem is that we humanize them too much if they're rich white guys from "good" families. The coddling of Kylo Ren by the female lead doesn't subvert any status quo, it only reinforces it.

The entire point was that it is NOT okay to act like Anakin. He makes bad choices and bad things happen to him and the people he loves.

I know there are plenty who embrace the idea of a SW that is completely antithetical to GL's SW, but once more:
"I — I have a philosophy that we all teach, and we all teach every day of our lives. And it’s not necessarily what we lecture. I’ve discovered kids don’t like lectures at all. But it is really the way we live our lives. And what we do with our lives and — and the way we conduct ourselves. And once in a while they listen to the lectures. So when I make the films, I’m very aware of the fact that I’m teaching on a much larger scale than I would just as a parent or somebody walking through life. Because I have this megaphone. Anybody in the media has a very large megaphone that they can reach a lot of different people, and so whatever they say, whatever they do, however they conduct themselves, whatever they produce has an influence and is teaching somebody something. And I try to be aware of what it is I’m saying."

But apparently it is OK to act like Kylo Ren does, and if you do, you get rewarded with a kiss—and any woman who refuses to give you a kiss is uncompassionate.

Disney did a love story right in the Frozen series.

”I’m here—what do you need?” is better than “You’re nothing—but not to me”

That concept should not need explaining. And a nice woman fixing her stalker school shooter abuser is not entertainment.

Man I am loving the latest info. Ben saves Rey, SHE kisses him, and he disappears into the Force. I love how angry its going to make certain people too.

Entitled Nazis should end up dead without a kiss, to cheers and not sorrow.

If any boy who thinks it's OK to act like Kylo Ren, then I will blame his parents, not JJ Abrams. Starwars is a fantasy movie not educational programming like Sesame street or Mr. Rogers.

I'm hearing Kylo doesn't actually say much in this movie. Which I'm not sure how to feel about.

I was sad when Vader died.
But I was experiencing the story through the eyes of a boy who wanted to save his space nazi father, not through the eyes of a girl who wants to save… a space nazi hook-up? I still have no idea what her motivations are.

So you acknowledge that media has the power to teach kids. You just think they have some magical ability to distinguish between Star Wars and Sesame Street because....reasons.

His SON. And not even his daughter, fwiw.
Rey has no legitimate reason to give a flying **** about Kylo.

It's all about parenting, if a kid who watches loony tunes and grows up to think it's OK to drop an anvil on someone's head, I'm blaming the parents not WB.

As I said earlier, no parent can be expected to be the sole arbiter of what their kids learn.
