Either way, I suspect publishing will make the character's age much older than the actual actor to have it be Chancellor Sheev getting his freak on or midichlorians or they simply won't care and have it be Emperor Palpy lol

 

I generally favor Rey's father being born before TPM.
It leaves the least amount of questions in its wake.
A senator having a kid would be overlooked, the Chancellor would probably be bigger news.
And the emperor frankly gives me the creeps. Not a pleasant thought.

Really its only Reys mom that needs to be reasonably young when she has her. Her dad could be ten years older and it wouldn't be too off.

 

even if the actor is 30, his character can go from 30-40. At earliest he was born right before ROTS. or he was born 5 years later. I don't think Palpatine would want too long before thinking of replacing Vader. Maybe a female sith cultist agreed to breed him his next progeny. Would be for hilarious family dinner at the imperial court. The secret son of the emperor, i wonder how mutch he knew of his father and how close he was before he ran away. Did he had any other siblings, would love it if he had a sister.

 

Let’s not forget carbon freeze and things of that nature.

Rather than trying to work out how/when Sheev fathered a child can't we just say none of this ever actually happened and forget it?

 

Nah it's canon Sheev jr is canon.

 

It's only Disney canon...

 

The only one that matters more and more long-term with each passing year. As more books, shows, films in the years ahead continue to roll out into the world and Disney + gets access into homes as a cable replacement that will become more and more obvious and as it does Legends will continue to fade away.

For as long as Sheev lived it is totally logical for him to get it on and have children. In fact I would expect it in a normal lifetime.

 

That’s probably my biggest complaint with the movie. How does someone that evil even become sexually attracted to anyone else?

His younger years may have been different in his party days. The trouble I have is the family we saw in the film were very young which means it was a more recent happening. That is scary I admit.

 

That's my point id buy it if it was before he became a full on sith but by calculation he must have conceived around the time of the clone wars of which he was very much indeed the master dark lord of the sith and is so hell bent on taking over the galaxy and eradicating the Jedi there is no way a woman comes into the way of that based on the character.
Hence I lean more towards him conceiving through midichlorians to someone.

 

It really depends how old Rey's dad is, compared to how old the actor who plays Rey's dad is. If they're the same age, and no "rapid growth cloning" or carbonite freezing, or similar, is in play, then we can work out when Rey's dad was born.

If he's significantly older or younger than the actor is, then the date shifts, even before cloning or freezing enter play.

According to Wookieepedia, Rey was left on Jakku in 13 BSI (Before Starkiller Incident). Billy Howle, who plays Rey's father, is 30. If character is exactly same age as actor, that makes him born in 43 BSI, the year after the events of Solo, and 9 years before ANH. This birth date is also 10 years after the Clone Wars end.

 

The idea that Palpatine’s son might be a clone that went rogue is intriguing, and it makes enough sense. It fits with Palpatine’s plans for immortality and subtly shows a more human side to him, at least in the sense that this other version of him could’ve turned out okay. But I honestly think this is intended to be a regular, biological son. It makes sense in the timeline, since he would’ve been born during Palpatine’s reign. And it fits with the more mythical themes of family in Star Wars.

What makes less sense is why Palpatine would want to have a son or would allow him to live at all. There’s an element of myth here in that the son ends up causing the death of the father. And surely, children would be something Palpatine would see as a threat to his power. Which he did eventually do, since he had his son killed. But why wait that long? Why even let him live or have him to begin with?

That makes me think Palpatine’s son was not part of his plans. If they ever explore it, the story may end up being rather convoluted. But it could be as simple as this: Palpatine had a son while he was Emperor; he let him live because he didn’t end up being powerful in the Force himself, and his son was mostly ignored and unacknowledged up until he had a daughter who did actually represent a threat to Palpatine.

Of course, considering Rey’s conception didn’t happen until after Palpatine’s death and resurrection, it’s entirely possible his son had been locked up while Palpatine was alive. Perhaps in one of his observatories. Although that also opens up the door to him being a clone. It would be interesting, though less mythically potent, if the son was a Force-less clone from early experiments, on whom a former cultist or guard took pity and with whom she may have run away with once they became pregnant, to avoid the machinations of the Sith Eternal.

 

Anyone looking for answers to how and who should look no further than two world leaders, the President of the USA and the Prime Minister of Great Britain. May be there was an analogy of Trump from JJ to go with Lucas' previous analogies of presidents when constructing Palpatine.

 

I got the impression that Ochi was sent to bring Palpatine's son back alive, but the son fought and got killed. And that Palpatine's idea was to have a good candidate for possession.

 

He ain't getting none imo looking like monster mash hence I feel it would have to be before ROTS the only woman I think may have had interest in him out anyone at the time maybe Sly Moore but that seems a long shot really. I'll stick with the Midichlorian theory.

 

Considering carbonite exists, I prefer to think Sheev got his freak on when he was still young and handsome, some kind of a tragic mess ensued, and Sheev Jr ended up frozen for several decades. Then Sheev decided to unfreeze the kid for some immortality purposes, but Sheev Jr got away.

Edit: I suppose this might somehow go with whatever weird love affair Lucas had in mind for young Palpatine.

Why the hell would Palpatine of all people ever let that information get out? I don't get this. With all the shady shiz this guy's pulled over decades, a secret mistress/child or one-night stand that bore a child would be a walk in the park to keep under wraps. He's Sheev Palpatine.

If anyone was ever unlucky enough to stumble on the fact, he'd just fry them or have some faithful loyalist disappear them.

This doesn't necessarily have to have happened early on. Probably did given Sheev's age, but he's what, 60-something in TPM, stranger things have happened in real life at any rate.

 

He's about 50 in the Legendsverse and 52 in the Newcanon, at the Battle of Naboo.
