Or getting the writers fired from Lucasfilm. The way they buried the Making of The Force Awakens book was probably very instructive to everyone involved.
You can click through to get the translation via Twitter, but it's this: < Star Wars Skywalker Artbook > Notice of discontinuation The Skywalker Artbook, released on January 16, has been discontinued due to content issues at the request of the copyright holder. The book will be destroyed in full and will be republished with the changes. I apologize for any confusion this may cause. Sounds like this early-bird version that got released is being recalled. I assume the scheduled release remains as it was.
For those who want to know more about what was explored before Trevorrow left the project, here's a few concept arts. Again, it doesn't mean the movie would have been "better"/"worse" than what we ended up with. Spoiler
Thanks for this. And you’re correct- it’s impossible to know the full quality of the finished product based on a few concept arts. I like the concept of the battle on Coruscant, but I really hate splitting the gang up for almost the entire film.
Uh oh. I like a lot of that stuff better. I grudgingly accepted Palpatine in the film because he just shows up at the very beginning and it was "roll with it or give up". But that stuff makes me realize that whether the original script was any good or not... Palps sucked a lot of oxygen out of the room.
Regarding the leaked script and concept art: There definitely is a lot of cool stuff I like about both, but I am happy and prefer TROS to the leaked earlier stuff. Sure I miss some things we might have gotten like Mortis, Coruscant and some scenes/jokes/callbacks really are nice here. Rose really rocks it. Still I feel TROS is way better ultimately as final resolution to the saga. Though, and that is my hopes now, I hope as with a lot of unused ideas, LFL will use them elsewhere refurbished still. Maybe do an Outro story after IX, with the ragtag fleet from Exogol heading to Coruscant and other galactic hotspots to purge it from the leftover FO forces as seen in the montage. We might still see scenes from this script, be it Kuat or Coruscant take place after/concurrent with TROS, maybe with different characters then the heroes. Likewise we might still get missing scenes that are close to some of these leaked ones. And even before TROS we may get material. Maybe some stuff with the Orcale, Mortis and Tor Valum gets used pre-TROS as leadup to Palpatines announcement and Kylos search for Exogol? One could technically merge that script and TROS into a longer narrative, which is what I think might have been the original plan, had JJ gotten his wish of splitting IX into two movies. Maybe, some fans will rise to the challenge and provide a way to unite the best of both? Given TROS is what we got it would have to remain unchanged though, just added to.
"Kylo sucks the life force from a tree" Like wtf what is up with Forcy folk and trees? First Yoda goes and burninates a tree, then Kylo is all like "I'ma gunna suck the life outta this sad little tree cuz... cuz." Does he need to stock up on his midichlorian count that desperately? I guess there's probably a perfectly valid explanation in the script, but if he's going to suck tree lives, he might as well go to Yavin IV and Exar Kun it.
Someone must really hate trees at LFL... or does Kylo have a trauma involving Neti in his childhood? Also how closely related are Neti and uneti-trees? Are u a Neti, uneti? As per script, Tor Valum tells Kylo that to feed on life is the ultimate goal of Sith and the answer to eternal life. To become death in person oneself. Darth Nihilus basically! PS: I cannot unsee Poe in black Stormtrooper armor now, looks so epic and so.... Imperial Knight Antares Draco!!!
For 15+ years, Kuat and the KDY orbital shipyards have been in my top three planets I want to see in live action (and Bonadan somewhere in my top ten or fifteen), but I'm not gonna let myself feel disappointed that it didn't make it all the way to the big screen -- I'm just happy that at least the concept art was shared! I like this design of Leia with her silver hair down. Graceful and a touch ethereal:
while not in concept art leaks yet the script would have featured Dac/Mon Cala in a montage in live action! @AdmiralNick22 would have died in his seat to see this!
It features several montages to various planets (some new, some from Legends). One had a brief cut to Dac/Mon Cala as people look up and see a lightbeam in the sky. The one from Coruscants ancient Jedi kyber-light-communication device that was used to send a message to the galaxy and call it to arms. Once the lightbeam arrives in an ancient reciever on planets, droids and screens planetwide show Leias message. As for Dac it would have shown that near a Fish Bar floating eatery.
It still has some issues, as scripts go - a whole new, if admittedly fascinating, Sith teacher (who may not be a Sith himself?) And explosions on a moon being seen across the galaxy (groan). That said, it does hurt that we missed out on seeing Kuat and it's ring on the big screen, or Mortis more fully integrated into the live action mythos. Finn on Coruscant leading a revolt also nicely kills two birds with one stone, and is a nice draw for Prequels and Clone Wars fans.
heard amazon US is shipping few days early... anybody got it already? I hope the book gets to europe even with all the travel and shipment issues thx to corona virus
Looking at concept art of Coruscant, Mortis and Moraband/Korriban makes me despise TROS even more. Looks like its going to be a very painful experience reading this book.
I don't actually care for the old script much myself, because I feel it really botches Kylo much worse than what we got. But the visual design from the concept are is itriguing, and there are certainly ideas I wanted to see filmed in there.
I'd assume it will get here, however if you order it from Amazon UK you might not get it for awhile unless you have Prime or choose paid shipping. I have a book order in currently that I put in over a week ago now. I got part of the order this past week via Royal Mail but the rest has an arrival date of Apr 1-2. This was using the free shipping option. One of my neighbors also reported a delay in a grocery-related Prime order.
