    Friend request sent! :)

We should probably set up a gamertag sharing thread, but I'll leap in with sharing my friend code. SW-5615-7067-6700

I don't have Nintendo Online at the moment, so I'm not sure if I'm able to generate Dodo codes, but I'll say when I've resubbed. :)

    My friend code is SW-4465-0785-9692

Marvel at my lack of consistent playtime and tendency to not touch my Switch for multiple days. :p

Edit: Annnnnnnd I caved in and bought Animal Crossing, so I guess look forward to being able to visit my unkempt, weed-filled agricultural colony.

I like that you can import custom designs now (apparently you could do this on 3DS but the last one I tried was the DS version). Did I immediately give myself an eye of the Crimson King t-shirt? Yes.

...should have found out about that before I started my Jeff Goldblum collage three days ago...

To be fair they complicate the hell out of it: you have to link your Nintendo Switch app on your phone, and then import QR codes compatible with the 3DS version through there, then import those designs into the game proper by downloading them. The app can, of course, only store one design at a time.

But by god I have a lovingly displayed portrait of our namesake gracing the stately isle of Hegelbund. Island motto: Obscurantismus sit optimum.

I was so preoccupied with whether or not I could, I didn't stop to think if I should...

Well, first I took a photo into Photoshop and reduced the size and number of colors to fit within a 4x4, 32x32 grid. Then I exported a screenshot of the Photoshop image zoomed in so that i could still see the pixel grid and texted the image to my phone. Then I spent 3 days painstakingly recreating half of the image using my phone to access the reference image as I played the game.

Then I found out about the QR importing today and found the Animal Crossing Pattern Tool site and started all over because it is waaay easier, though you can't edit them once imported since they are imported designs.

But, honestly, it was the Isla Sorna theme idea combined with this goal that really made me buy the game in the first place :D.

It does help to jerry-rig the images up front a bit even before using the pattern tool, it wigs out if it's too big.

What's going to be interesting is apparently there are unique codes for sharing New Horizons designs once you unlock a certain shop. Once somebody busts that formula open we'll really be cooking.

Yeah I haven't done any custom designs yet... But I did get Nook's Cranny construction up and running. Tomorrow I get my museum, too!

Was able to place my first bridge in AC. Weirdly limited in placement options- but that might just be the specific bridge type you start out with. Hopefully later bridges will accept the locations I would have preferred. Also had a visitor who crafted me a ladder and sent some cherries over so now I have 5 fruits in some stage of growth on the island.

Awesome! My friend also gave me a ladder, which allowed me onto my whole island. And I now have....

    Apples
    Pears
    Oranges
    Cherries
    Pears
    Coconuts
    Bamboo

Happy to share when I can.

So I picked up Animal Crossing a few days ago. I still don't really know what I'm doing in the long term, just trying to get enough iron to build a shop right now.

I'm looking forward to being able to bring in custom designs, but I understand I need a couple of new residents to the island to set up another shop before I can do that? Speaking of residents, I've not had anyone new come along. Do you have to do anything to get new folk or do they come along at random?

Same. Rock harvesting rates are killing me right now, and the museum won't be built until tomorrow so I'm actively disincentivized from playing more today. [face_plain]

You do need the shop if the design is from New Horizons, you can just do it via the Nintendo Switch phone app if it's a QR code from New Leaf or Happy Home Designer (or a QR code in that format made in a third party tool).

You need to use your Nook miles to visit uninhabited islands with Dodo Air. You can get three residents to your island by talking to those you meet while there.

Technically, if you're making you're own, until that shop is set up you can still make custom design patterns via the NookPhone app. You can then apply the patterns you make to certain surfaces or wear as a tank top or as face paint. Anything more elaborate will presumably need the shop.

You can actually unlock pro designs using Nook Miles - that opens up shirts, pants, hats, and the like.

Oh, I thought it just opened up the higher rez grid. I'll have to play around with that more, then.

Speaking of which, if anyone stumbles upon a hat that looks like Tembo's or Muldoon's that they'd be willing to part with, let me know :).

Earlier today I did a Tarantula Island grind (haven't been able to do so until now since I usually work or am asleep during the hours they're active). They are tricky to catch but not impossible. I found the "get them to chase you" method to be easier than the "creep up on them and try to nab them before they strike" approach, though I still "died" several times trying to capture 28 of them (uncovered a globe and a fossil so I couldn't max out all of my slots).

The trickiest part is how precise you need to be with your angle- it's very easy to be slightly off when you turn around and miss your shot- and you only get one. Switching to the most overheard view helps, though, I found.

Since Nook's Cranny was still closed for the night and I didn't want to pay the drop box fee, I've stacked them outside for the time being and am working on crafting the items needed for my 3 new neighbor plots. I'm hoping they arrive in the order that I met them, because the third character I met was a lion named Rex and I put the third house plot in a elevated location (because, above all else, he'll be a mountain lion that way) near a waterfall which approximates to the location on Isla Sorna where the T-Rex waterfall sequence occurs. It's also just north of a large field of long grass, er, uh, weeds...

I made a crappy hat design to look like the KC Chiefs logo. It can be done without the shop, you just need to unlock Pro Designs. Of course, you need the shop to import other people's designs, so I'm looking forward to that eventuality.

I have my museum open! I have Nook's Cranny! And I built a bridge! Most importantly, though, I had recruited three new residents and the first one showed up. The other two houses are ready for move-in, so I just have to wait a few days for all that.

And I've been introduced to the crazy world of selling turnips. Will have to see what their prices are today. I need the money because I'm working towards paying off my first home loan so I can, I believe the first one is make your house bigger inside. That'll help me separate out different 'rooms' of sorts.

As someone who loves The Sims, I am looking forward to continuing to expand my house so I can decorate and customize all of the things.

    Yay heels! ONE OF US!

This is my first Animal Crossing game as well. So I am just winging it too. But five days in, and I'm already sucked in and thinking about my island and all the stuff I want to do to improve it even when I'm not playing.

Cashed in my bugs and got a little over 200k for them. Not bad! Of course, the Nooks now have access to an army of tarantulas so I must be wary of not paying them back... ;)

Do you happen to recall if the first to move in was the first invited?

EDIT- Nevermind, I found out. Rex went in the wrong house (first plot). Oh well!
