I'm hoping this one ends up with a split story, similar to Lost, Arrow, or Once Upon a Time. A post-RoS storyline focused on Lando and Jannah, and a pre-ANH story focused on Lando post-Solo. It would make it easier for both Donald Glover and Billy Dee WIlliams, as well. Glover's a busy man, and Williams' doesn't seem to be in the best shape for carrying a show on his own.
Young Indiana Jones Chronicles style intro with Old Calrissian telling a tale required then cutting to young Lando Adventures with L3, with Han, all over his timeline!
It sounds like it's a limited series, i.e. a 6-episode style thing though. Could just be Glover and the Cloud Riders perhaps? Maybe a tie-in to a future Qi'ra project as well?
Neither Glover nor Williams confirmed, right? Hope we get one or both; we don't need Lando to become the Spock of Star Wars.
Lando is one of my favorite characters so I am excited for this. I am sort of hoping that this show is not a followup to Solo (although I know many want that film to get some love.) I am hoping it takes place during or prior to the Clone Wars when Lando was a very young man, because otherwise the Dark Times era will be getting a lot of exposure with this roster.
I think that means that it'll be short (say, three to five episodes), but with a big budget and lots of stars, and no plans to continue past that one series. Basically what we used to call a miniseries, but with a jazzed up name. On the one hand, I doubt they'd be doing a Lando series if they didn't have one of the movie Landos attached. But on the other, if they do have at least one of them attached, why wouldn't they announce that?
Obviously Williams and/or Glover would be the best way to go, but there's plenty of room for Teen Lando, Young Pre-Solo Lando, post-Solo pre-Rebels Lando, or even meta-tall-tales Lando. So excited for this. I'd love to see some kind of casino caper. Tales introduced the idea of Young Lando Calrissian and Lando's Commandos, either of which would be brilliant for a limited series too.
Nah it's Old Lando tellling tales of all his life... starting with him taking over his mom's laundry service from TCW via the Solo continuation to the penultimate Winguards free Cloud City episode closing off SW Uprising's story!
I'm cautiously excited because I love Lando, but I expect its still a long ways off, so we'll see. I wouldn't mind cameos by Billy Dee Williams but I kind of hope they don't bother with that daughter storyline, I'd rather they focus on adventures with Glover-Lando.
My bet is they're still in discussion about it and haven't officially signed on, even if it's just Glover. Someone would need to correct me, but I think they did exactly the same thing a while back for the Obi-Wan show. Ewan wasn't part of the original announcement.
There's no way Billy Dee wouldn't do it if asked. He's like Anthony Daniels, he voices Lando in everything. It'll be a whole cast of people doing impressions and then Billy Dee Williams.
I went back and checked because I wasn't sure, and the Obi-Wan show and Ewan's return were officially announced at the same time. There had been rumours for a long time, but no official word from Lucasfilm. If I were a betting man I'd put money on both Billy Dee and Donald Glover returning. The scene with Lando and Jannah at the end of TRoS was MCU-grade setup for a future project, but at the same time Glover is massive right now and was one of the most praised parts of Solo. Have a story where old Lando and Jannah go on a journey together that links into something young Lando did. Kind of like Last Shot.
I'd really enjoy this too, and it reminds me, I was always hoping we'd see more of Master Codebreaker and Lovey from TLJ. Codebreaker looked full of personality and fun, and Lovey looked full of intrigue and secrets... (I think she kept them all in her hairdo)
I want both just because its the best way to cover multiple era's of Star Wars. Hire someone to do child Lando too. Maybe the main story takes place after TROS, following up on that loose end of him helping Jannah find her family, and if done well come to the conclusion that he is her father (as was originally intended to be the case). They can go on missions, and maybe have a concurrent story occurring in flashbacks to when he was younger.
Both would be great -- and I would assume this wouldn't be greenlit without at least one of them attached, just a little odd that it wasn't mentioned. SW has always been good with consistent casting, often when it's not even strictly necessary, and I just... really like that. It's one of the reasons why I don't mind the recast younger versions of characters but I don't want to see "in-between" casting of anyone who was consistently played by the same actor at different ages. I mean, they brought back the barely-seen Mon Mothma from ROTS for R1, and I still can't believe how perfect that turned out to be.
Billy Dee Williams and Donald Glover in both centric episodes, please. Totally Godfather II / flashback style it. Young Lando problem comes back for Old Lando.
I wonder if there's a way to bring DJ into this... I'd love to see more of that character. But it's probably highly unlikely.
So, you would be upset if Genevieve O’Reilly played Mon Mothma in The Mandalorian, though? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'd say Star Wars casting has only been consistent because the series so far has either been able to bring back actors before they've got too old, or they've avoided showing eras that would be too difficult casting-wise. I doubt that'll remain the case the more the franchise expands and the older actors get.
I think Event Series could mean several seasons but no more than 2-3. The new X-Files was an event series and it seems to me it's kind of a gauging interest, see where it goes kind of thing. Limited series like Kenobi and Ahsoka will be just one season.
