You only have to have seen an interview with Taika to see he likes to play around. So aside from the idea that 3 years is a long time, I wouldn't take all his tweets seriously.

If you want an indicator of what a SW film from him might be like see Mando 1.08 which he directed. That experience may well have been the start of the road to this announcement.

I imagine Mandalorian, Cassian, Kenobi will be an audition of sorts for a lot of directors who might want to take a crack at the films.

The new TV series can hopefully be used like stepping stones to new films.

I like the idea of future SW directors establishing rapport with their audience through the television medium before jumping into a full-fledged film. Television allows Lucasfilm to see what works.

I'm sure Thor fans do talk a lot about this but Taikai has said in interviews that he wasn't that big a Thor comic fans and didn't read that many Thor comics...yet he made the most popular of the Thor films.

So....just saying...Taika is a example of good director who doesn't need to know all the little ins and outs to make a good film.

I believe it was indicated she is directing every episode of the Obi-Wan show so that's pretty close especially if the entire run turns out to be at the 2 hr 30 minutes mark

So he's currently writing his SW story, no new information. This can't be the 2022 movie, right? Maybe 2024 then?

He just says he's writing it, not that he just started.

He suggests in this video that it's pretty much finished, and he's just doing passes on it now.

No new news, really, but Lucasfilm has at least acknowledged its continuing existence:

    Untitled Taika Waititi Film

A brand-new Star Wars feature with acclaimed filmmaker and Academy Award-winner Taika Waititi is in development. “Taika’s approach to Star Wars will be fresh, unexpected, and…unique,” said Kennedy. “His enormous talent and sense of humor will ensure that audiences are in for an unforgettable ride.”

The ellipsis there is an interesting stylistic choice. Is this quoting something she said publicly or did she supply that in writing?

That's how it's written on the official StarWars.com article.

Ah, sorry, I thought you were asking if that was Jeff's transcription of what she said.

All the quotes in that article would have been provided in writing well in advance I'm sure. The ellipsis is there because that's how Kennedy wanted it.

I think basically it's their way of playing up the "Taika, you so crazy!" vibe that he's had going in pop culture after Thor: Ragnarok and JoJo Rabbit.

    That's a...very interesting logo.

I'm very curious as to what his movie will be about. Is it animated?

Taika doing Life of Brian Star Wars style? SOLD!

Guess our "Nobody expects the Imperial Inquisition" and "People's Front" vs. "Front of the People" jokes in the One Canon topic reached Disney after all, lol! [face_tee_hee]

Oh hey, the Mortisites. Not sure how this relates to the Waititi film but it's always nice to see them.
