TV Discussion The Mandalorian Rank all "The Mandalorian" Chapters (1 to 24)

The title of the thread is pretty self explanatory. The poll itself allowed me to only include 15 options, so I sacrificed Season 1 - Episode 4: Chapter 4 (The Sanctuary) since it is the one with the lowest rating around these parts. I somehow feel that noone or almost noone would vote for that one as their favorite, though I could of course be wrong, and it does feel kinda unfair to leave just one out.

Alas, it is what it is. It be like that sometimes. It do be like that. My apologies Bryce Dallas Howard, I still think you are extremely talented, amazingly pleasant, heart warming and straight up gorgeous.

Outside of the poll, I would like to see your rankings. Mine would go something like that (you can also make tiers if you want):

Chapter 16 The Rescue

Cause Luke freaking SKYWALKER!

 

I wouldn’t be able to rank them all as I’ve found each episode of season 2 to be absolutely fantastic other than The Passenger. 9, 11, 12, 14 & 15 all had different qualities that I enjoyed.

I can tell you though the The Jedi & The Rescue are the top two. Obviously the finale was mega but The Jedi is my favourite.

I found the whole episode to be breathtaking. From Ahsoka’s first appearance, the direction, the themes of GoT and Samurai, the music, the eerie feel it had, it was just the best thing I’ve ever watched on TV

 

I mean, Luke Skywalker was my childhood hero, so there's no competition here. I will just do Season 2 for now since I haven't watched Season 1 since before Chapter 9 was released. In tiers and ordered best to worst*

Chapter 16 - No contest, and yes it's just because of Luke.

***The lower tier is by no means bad, overall I loved every episode, I just tried to rank them the best I can.

4. Season 2 Episode 16 - The Rescue
5. Season 2 Episode 11 - The Heiress

 

Man I really don't understand these boards sometimes. Why remove the poll?
So what if people's opinions change when more episodes come out?

And for the record, I love Chapter 4 - Sanctuary as well.
No bad episode.

 

The Passenger was probably my least favorite episode.
Favorite? Oh boy. Too many to list, to just do 5.
Faves from S1? 2, 3, 7, 8.
S2? All of them were solid.
The Rescue probably tops it.

 

Interesting, I think season one episode 2 might be my least favorite of the series.

 

The Rescue, The Jedi, The Tragedy are the top 3.

 

It effectively introduced a Yoda species force user (Yaddle & Yoda are the others) who in species age is an child. The introduction also confirmed at the time besides Leia Organa & Luke Skywalker that other force users still existed.

As to the rest Ashoka Tano besides Anakin Skywalker is by favorite character, and Bo-Katan is another one of my favorite characters

Those two, I am sure about. I don't know if I can rank as many as sixteen, but I kind of feel like doing a rewatch of the whole thing (which should be an interesting experience in light of The Rescue), so we'll see!

I think my favorite was the Seven Samurai one. I'm not sure. I need to rewatch them.

 

Might have to go back and rewatch them all, and I generally don't like to do rankings anyway, but at this point in time I'd probably rank them like this:

The best
Chapter 2: The Child - almost perfect in every way, its only weakness is that it is quite short

The amazing ones (no real order, depends entirely on the mood)
Chapter 3: The Sin - great pairing of action and internal conflict
Chapter 15: The Believer - best of season 2 for me, Bill Burr with the best performance of the season as well
Chapter 7: The Reckoning - excellent setup for a finale
Chapter 6: The Prisoner - amazing cinematography
Chapter 9: The Marshal - epic fight sequences, Timothy Olyphant was great, interesting storyline with the Sand people, and a reference to KOTOR can never hurt

The very good to great ones
Chapter 13: The Jedi - don't care all that much about Ahsoka, so this was unlikely to tickle me like it does for others, but the episode worked really well
Chapter 12: The Siege - some ups and downs, but the expansion of the backstory was excellent
Chapter 8: Redemption - if it weren't for the heroes getting out of the trap way too easily, it might have been stronger for me. The setup in 7 was stronger than the finale in 8 though
Chapter 1: The Mandalorian - a great start to the show, plus great introductions to characters

The good to very good ones *
Chapter 16: The Rescue - great fight between Mando and Gideon, but the action in general felt a bit flat to me, just like the execution of the ending
Chapter 11: The Heiress - some interesting lore and fight scenes, very entertaining
Chapter 14: The Tragedy - I don't like bringing back dead characters, so bringing back Boba did not do a whole lot for me, though Temuera Morrison did a very good job with him in general

The decent to good ones
Chapter 5: The Gunslinger - some cool scenes, an unexpected twist, but not a whole lot more to it
Chapter 4: Sanctuary - great use of the AT-ST, some funny moments, but overall not on the level as the other ones
Chapter 10: The Passenger - great opening sequence, plus some intense action, but it simply doesn't match what came before and afterwards

* all of those (and some others as well) suffer from "everyone and their mother take down 500 stormtroopers in 5 seconds" syndrome. That just feels way too bland to me. There is zero threat involved because of how over the top these sort of sequences have become. Stormtroopers were never particularly good, but they never were so little of a threat as they are shown here (and in some of the new movies as well). If the opponents aren't remotely capable of threatening the heroes, then facing them and taking them out in droves becomes meaningless. So no matter how cool the action might look, it doesn't really have the desired effect on me.

 

Bringing this up so more people can see it.

I loved season 2 to death, but season 1 still beats it with its brilliant combination of simple storytelling, natural world-building, and both unsettling and adorable weirdness. It feels like a cult classic season, while season 2 feels more mainstream. And the visuals in season 1 are overall just more convincing. A tad too much of a blockbuster CGI look in parts of season 2. But trust me, I love them both. It’s just that like your children, you kind of like some of them a little more.

It’s OK to be devastatingly wrong. From time to time.
