Works in progress on my deathwing. Dark Angels 1st company and there commander Belial.

Belial is the guy in with the green hooded robe over his armor and also my current avatar here. He is my favorite of the Dark Angels special characters. Just some fine detail work , transfers dor the bladegusrds shoulder pads and painting the bases and a little weathering with Armageddon dust(and also painting the stomped necron on one base). I think I am going to use a transfer from the Horue heresy transfer sheet to cover the back banner on the Death wing Ancient as the banners are just terrible to paint.

Really happy with how there coming out using GW Zandri dust primer on them and the. Two thin layers of ushabti bone instead having to do multiple layers over a black primer helped. Also did a dry brush of Skeleton bone to highlight. The raised edges.

Finished up the stuff I posted pictures of above today. Once the Varnish drys completely I will post pictures. Apparently the Captain does nor have the Death wing keyword and I would not be able to play him and belial together anyway(You can only have I captain per detachment) so I am going to use him as a display piece.

After during a break in painting I glued together the last 2 Bladeguard veterans and the Ancient ,and the whole second box of Deathwing Terminators as Deathwing Knights(with Maces of Absotion with the Sergeant having the Flail of the Unforgiven.) Also a Watcher in the dark because they give an anti pysker buff. So that ended up being 9 models

Friday is going to be 50 degrees so better temps for priming so I have my project for the end of the year.

[40K] Dark Angels Auxilia by RvBOMally on DeviantArt
    [IMG]
I've decided to start a series of conversion not unlike Pete the Wargamer's series of Chaos cultists, only for the loyalists. The idea here is that these are auxilia troops or chapter homeworld PDFs, regular humans supporting these chapters outside of the Astra Militarum's structure. Starting off the series, we have the auxilia for the Dark Angels. I think that, given the opportunity to have regular humans under arms under their exclusive control, the Dark Angels would turn them to the task of fighting the Fallen, far from the prying eyes of the Administratum or other political organs of the Imperium. This informed my decision to equip this guy with a plasma gun: the Dark Angels' auxilia are Astartes hunters. I also wanted to give the auxilia the iconic Dark Angels robes and knightly armor. The arms and torso are from the Tempestus Scions kit, the backpack from the Dreamforge Eisenkern set, the legs from the Warhammer Fantasy flagellants kit, and the head from the Skitarii Rangers set.

[40K] White Scars Auxilia by RvBOMally on DeviantArt
    [IMG]
The next entry in my loyalist auxilia series, this time for the White Scars. The concept I went for is the Chinese and Korean troops that supported the Mongols by providing infantry and siege engineers, which the Mongols did not have many of themselves. So I went for an auxilia soldier with a heavy anti-tank weapon: an explosive bow from the Necromunda House Cawdor kit. The body is from Wargames Atlantic's Les Grognards, as is that backpack. The stick grenades are from the Necromunda House Goliath kit, the head a modified Chaos marauder head (shaved off the horns and with a greenstuff mustache). Also, screw painting white.

[40K] Space Wolves Auxilia by RvBOMally on DeviantArt
    [IMG]
The next entry in my Space Marines auxilia series, the Space Wolves auxilia. Conceptually, very straightforward: it's an angry space Viking with an ax. The body is from the Corpse Grinders set, one of the smaller ones, as does the pistol arm. The ax arm is a Chaos Warriors one, although it was originally holding a knife and I replaced it with an ax. The head is also a Chaos warrior one, one I also used for my Dornian Heresy Space Wolves Marine. What can I say, angry Vikings all look the same to me! The backpack is a Tempestus Scions one.

[40K] Imperial Fists Auxilia by RvBOMally on DeviantArt
    [IMG]
The next in my Space Marine auxilia series, the Imperial Fists. I'm very happy with this conversion, and it has to be my favorite of the set. It's the design concept that got me started on this whole project, and the one I finished first. The basis of this conversion is the Corpse Grinder kit, as I wanted to use the other Corpse Grinder torsos I had left over from making Pete the Wargamer's World Eaters cultist. My idea for using such a bulky body for what essentially counts as a guardsman is the Imperial Fists' reputation as siege masters, and my personal idea that the Imperial Fists' auxilia are recruited from Holy Terra and trained and based on the Phalanx. As such, I had the idea of troops who specialize in void combat, fighting through the tight corridors of voidships, or fighting alongside the Imperial Fists through enemy fortifications. The Tempestus Scions kit provided the head and the power fist, which I had to have for obvious reasons. The gun is from the House Goliath kit from Necromunda, another kit I purchased for that World Eater. That arm involved considerable cutting and gluing, as that weapon was originally on the right arm and I had to add that Scions shoulder and upper arm. The House Goliath kit also provided the front "tabard" armor, to fortify the auxilia's most important bits. Lastly, the tank in the back is from the Cadian flamer backpack.

[40K] Blood Angels Auxilia by RvBOMally on DeviantArt
    [IMG]
Continuing my Space Marine auxilia series, one for the Blood Angels. I was rather stumped on this, as I originally envisioned a CQB-style auxilia, but someone from Pete the Wargamer's Discord server suggested going with a Renaissance theme and something to supplement the Blood Angels by being a ranged fighter. I loved the idea, particularly as I had the parts. The head is from a Warhammer Fantasy kit, I'm not sure which one. The legs are from the Genestealer Cultists, the torso from the Tempestus Scions, the arms are Cadian, and the weapon and the backpack are from the Skitarii kit. I like how this guy turned out, even if I did suck at painting his face. This design could also be used for pre-Heresy Prospero Spireguard.

EDIT: The head is from the Pistolier/Outrider kit. Thanks Midnight-Blue766.

[40K] Iron Hands Auxilia by RvBOMally on DeviantArt
    [IMG]
More Space Marine auxilia, this time the Iron Hands. I went with the idea of the Iron Hands being just as disdainful of their regular human auxiliaries' human bodies as they are with their own, so I went with a heavily cybernetic auxilia, who apart from the head and some internal organs is robotic. However, I also stepped away from making him look Mechanicus, so I only used a head and backpack from the Skitarii kit. The body is from the Genestealer Neophyte Hybrid kit, another great kit for converters. The right arm is from an Ad Mech kit, the gunner from the Dunecrawler. The gun is from the Enforcers kit (or rather a recast of one). The legs are from the Scions kit, and the power fist from the Mark III kit; had to give him an iron hand.

[40K] Ultramarines Auxilia by RvBOMally on DeviantArt
    [IMG]
Back to our regularly scheduled programming. I actually finished this guy last, because I was holding off on the possibility of getting other bits and, when I couldn't get them, I was stumped as to what I wanted to do until recently. I made this guy during my personal crusade to use the massive amounts of spare bits I have in my bits box, so he is made out of parts that were parts of sets bought for other projects.

The Ultramar Auxilia is a canonical thing, and they don't look very Ultramarine, so I rejected that idea. Ultramarines Auxilia have been done before, so I had plenty of inspiration. My initial idea was to buy parts from Vigilant 3D Art to make this conversion, but unfortunately he is in the middle of revamping the parts and is not selling. I decided to go for the Roman look, so I used a gladiator head from Anvil Industries (purchased for my Davonian Trenchers), with a plume and back banner thing from the Mark III kit. For weapons, I wanted to evoke Space Marines, so I went with a bolt pistol arm from the Genestealer Cultist MNeophyte Hybrid set. The sword is also from the Mark III kit, and its use was inspired by commentary on Pete the Wargamer's Discord. The body is from the Enforcer kit, which I used as part of the Alpha Legion Cultist I made using Pete's design.

I also added a genestealer arm, to symbolize the Tyranid invasion of the Realm of Ultramar and because I have a ton of them lying around.

[40K] Salamanders Auxilia by RvBOMally on DeviantArt
    [IMG]

[40K] Raven Guard Auxilia by RvBOMally on DeviantArt
    [IMG]
The last in my Space Marine auxilia series. This is a rather simple one, a sniper that assists the Raven Guard in infiltration missions/ I went with a tacticool look, so I went with an Elysian torso (I know, a rarity these days), Scion arms and weapon, Genestealer Cultist legs, and a Valkyrie pilot head (to evoke the beakie helmet) with a few modifications (a visor/binoculars made with greenstuff and styrene rod). I also added some feathers to the weapon, a nod to raven symbology.

If there's enough interest, I may make auxilia for other Astartes organizations, like the Grey Knights, Black Templars, the Deathwatch, etc.

    Thanks @Gamiel

Though its likely going to have to wait along with any painting for me as at 2am this morning the transformer down the street blew up when a tree fell and hit it during the rainstorm we had overnight and with it being Christmas and all the power company is going to take days to get here to repair it and restore power.

I am currently sitting in my car charging my cell phone while reading the Deveastion of Baal which is the only reason i can reply right now as new car has wifi hotspot.

“What strong allurement draws, what spirit guides,
Thee, Vesper! brightening still, as if the nearer
Thou com’st to man’s abode the spot grew dearer
Night after night? True is it Nature hides
Her treasures less and less. Man now presides
    In power, where once he trembled in his weakness;
    Science advances with gigantic strides;
But are we aught enriched in love and meekness?
Aught dost thou see, bright Star! of pure and wise
    More than in humbler times graced human story;
That makes our hearts more apt to sympathise
With heaven, our souls more fit for future glory,
When earth shall vanish from our closing eyes,
Ere we lie down in our last dormitory?”

    + Venus +
Along with Mars, Venus is Terra’s neighboring planet in the Sol System. It is a terrestrial planet sometimes called Terra’s ‘sister planet’ because of its similar size, mass and proximity to the sun. Most other similarities ends there: The planet itself is a hostile place with an atmospheric pressure like that of long lost oceans on Terra.

Imperial lore describe how Venus used to be visible to the naked eye, as one of the brightest objects in the evening and morning skies of Terra. Today thick smog and smoke from vast incense factories usually encapsulates burdened Terra hiding Venus from plain sight in the Terran evening- and morning sky.

But to this day Venus is still known among Imperial chroniclers and astrologists, at one and the same time, as the Evening-Star and the Morning-Star heralding both the Terran dusk and the dawn of a new day.

    Venus Transit
Since the early days of stellar and planetary observations sky gazers and astronomers have chased Venus on its journey across the night sky. Transits of Venus passing the sun are among the rarest of predictable astronomical phenomena. When they occur Venus is seen as a small, black sphere moving before the surface of Sol. They occur in a pattern that repeats every 243 years, with pairs of transits eight years apart separated by long gaps of 121.5 years and 105.5 years. For Millennia this 243-year transit has been celebrated with an 8-year long festival on Venus celebrating the planetary tribute to the Holy Emperor of Mankind and his divine seat on Terra.

Venus depicted as a black sphere as it passes the face of the Sun viewed from Terra, M2
    The Sol System
On most maps of the Sol System, charted by Imperial scholars and cartographers of the Ordo Geographiadescriptio orbis terrarum – Terra appears as the divine seat of the Emperor of Mankind – the Golden Throne outshining even the light of Sol.

Venus on the other hand, as one of the four celestial bodies closest to Sol, with Holy Terra, Mercury and Mars being the others, is often represented as a counter-image of Terra:

A black sphere in close orbit to the sun.

The Sol System at the outset of the Siege of Terra, M31 (map © Games Workshop)

In many representations the planet is shown encircled by six celestial bodies connected to each other and the planet by a 6-pointed star. This representation is described by Imperial scholars as a cartographic representation of the six most influential Venutian families, their immense family palaces and the planet wide network of cloud canals interconnecting the palaces into one vast hive city floating in the planet’s dense atmosphere.

Venus depicted with six celestial bodies encircling the planet. On earlier maps these bodies seem to be at a distance from each other interconnected only by a series of lines in triangular 6-pointed star shape.
    (map © Games Workshop)

On recent maps from the Ordo Cartographia these celestial bodies are still clearly visible but seem to have merged together into one structure built up of six half-spheres encompassing the entire atmosphere of the planet. Also represented on newer maps are the single artificial moon and Imperial seed vault Neith as well as two orbital constructions in high orbit above the planets atmosphere

    The Horned Ones
In M41 Venus plays host to a wide variety of luxury resort orbitals and floating gardens, all intended to help the elite on Terra find respite and relaxation. Within some academic circles it is common knowledge that this elite is made up of six very old and elusive orders of wealthy Venutians called The Conclave of the Horned Ones, or the more commonly used Conclave Venutiae.

The conclave has direct political and commercial ties to the aristocracy of Terra itself. Even with high ranking members of the Senatorum Imperialis and the governing body of the Imperium.

It has been suggested, by some scholars now deemed hereticvs, that it is possible to draw a direct lineage between some family patriarchy of the Conclave Venutiae to the war witches that inhabited Venus in the early years of the Great Crusade during the Mehr Yasht Campaign. These suggestions have, of course, led to a series of witch burnings and prosecutions of said academics.

    Venutian Palagios

Because of its harsh surface conditions most of the countless luxury resort orbitals and recreational gardens are floating in the dense and sulphureous atmosphere of the planet. Most imposing among these immense human structures are the Palagio di Venutiae, Venutian Palaces belonging to the families of the Conclave Venutiae. These vast palaces are the size of hive cities themselves, separated and interconnected from each other by other Venutian palaces, villas and resorts, floating cloud canals and countless Venutian sky bridges making it appear as if the entire dense atmosphere is one large built structure.

The Venutian Palaces of Venutiae Medvicii and Venutiae di Vitrovii are some of the most impressive structures in the entire Imperium vertically covering hundreds of miles in the planets dense atmosphere.

    Conclave Venutiae
The families of the Conclave Venutiae are some of the wealthiest, most influential – and in some cases decadent – families in the Imperium. The family heads of the Conclave Venutiae are elusive, almost mythical, figures. Like the High Lords of Terra they are the center of immense networks reaching into the far corners of the Imperium. Because of their wealth and influence various organisations have grown amidst them; Today the vast Venutian Palagios house family Rogue Traders, Inquisitors, Arbites, Shipping Magnates, Priesthoods, to name but a few of the organisations that make up the Venutian world of intrigue and decadence where…

    Celebrating 20 years of Inquisitor
    +

On Iron Sleet we strive to explore uncharted territory in the 40k universe!

Our new goal is to inject novel narratives, characters and depth into a planetary system that has been largely unexplored in the official lore of 40K. A planetary system, which mirrors Terra itself:

    Venus!

We will build this world together and dive in to the multitude of humanity within the incredible Venutian sphere of influence: Inquisitors unraveling plots, corrupt Arbites enforcers, shipping magnates, religious sects spreading the Imperial creed, and of course the fabled Conclave of the Horned Ones.

In the coming months each of us will build and paint a group (or more!) of Venutians from the Conclave Venutiae dividing the six families between us. Our setting is an Iron Sleet version of the Venutian planetary system, as fleshed out by FPOA in the above introduction. We have already delved into exploring the different families of the Conclave Venutiae and we cannot wait to introduce them here and unfold them even more as we explore Venus full on. Most importantly, as is always the case on Iron Sleet:

Models and images come first, Story is king!

We have recently initiated this exiting new Venutian adventure on our Patreon, which is slowly becoming our Iron Sleet machine room for developing new ideas and techniques, and a lot of engaged fellow hobbyists are already exploring the novel world of Venus together with us on a Discord set up for the purpose. Some of this have already hit the Ether Ways on Instagram where Ynqvisitor is slowly gaining life.

As always we will be sharing WIP of our work here on this blog as well as on our instagram account(s) by using the #ynqvisitor and #sleetinvitational hashtags. Our Patreons are already doing this in style on Instagram…

…and then, once the dust has settled, we really start getting into this world!

Finished Darkness in the blood now moving on to some Ultramarine stories with thr Uriel Ventris books. I have read Blood Angels and Ultranarine stuff set during the heresy (along with the Loken and Garro novels, then Imperial fist books and the stuff which focus on Kharn)but most of the later set suff. I wanted to catch up with the newest stuff with the galaxy being split in to Imperium Sanctus and Imperium Nihilus. Inhave read dawn of fire 1 and tried to get through Indomitus(which i will have to go back to)

Starting to widen my palate of stories after the Ultrasmurfs will probably move to stuff like Ciaphas Cain, Eisenhorn, Gaunt and maybe some of the newer warhammer horror novels.

1 Eliminator squad(3 man sniper team one model is a Sergeant)

Just need some Rhino's for movement stuff, maybe a Tank or land raider and a Dreadnought but those are big projects, both in model size and cost. Will likely wait till late spring or summer for them.

1 boxed my reivers up for now as they are not worth the cost with current rules for the DA which emphasizes a shootier army rather than close combat for which i have my deatwing knights, Bladguard Veterana and assault Intercessors if i need more melee. The bikes and the vanguard Primaris give me good movement buffs and the Chaplains, Belial, and Azrael given alot resilience to whatever squads they are attached too.

The funny thing is i am not a meta chaser. I started Dark Angels becaue aftet reading some of their novels i really liked Azrael, Belial, Ezekiel, and Sammael.

It just so happens the rules particularly for the Deatwing and Plasma troops are good in 9th edition.

    Besides the one @Iron_lord mentioned

    For traitor legions
    Death Shadows

    Among the loyalist chapters

    The Adulators
Angels of Repentance (probably a dark angels successor)

    For the Guard.

Mordians wear a blue/gray uniform with black and gold accents

Otherwise their are just too mang Astra Militatium units to go though and check all of them that we have the uniform info on.

    @Gamiel

Thanks for posting those auxilia images. This has inspired me. Rather than add a detachment from another Space marine chapter to my dark Angels, I am now really considering doing something like that where I have a guard unit that works extremely close with the Dark Angels having been from a recruiting world for the chapter like the Piscinia IV PDF force that features in Gav Thorpe's Dark Angels novelsor the Catachans regiment from Pandorax, whom Azrael and the Grey Knights Supreme Grand Master saved from being culled by the inquisition because of the daemons they fought ,and where able to convince the inquisition to just mind wipe them preventing another issue like what happened between the Space Wolves, Grey Knights and Inquisition after 1st War of Armageddon.

Might even write a fan fiction where a Dark Angel encounters a relative who is serving in the guard but does not recognize them because DA its implied the Dark Angels get there minds wiped at some point as aspirants or they just lose there memory of there life before over time. It would be cool to have a similar situation like in one of the night lords stories where an Astartes encounters a relative post becoming a marine.

Based on the Deathwing story do (at least) some of the DA keep (at least) some of their memories of who and what they were before the becoming aspirants.

It honestly depends on the story. Azrael remembers very little of his pre Space Marine life in Azrael till the watchers in the dark show him arepressed memory. Meanwhile in the Purging of Kallidus which takes place on Piscinia IV one of Brother Chaplain Boreas' squadmembers remembers being from the Piscinia III. One of the characters in Ravenwing knows a great uncle was also taken as an aspirant but opines that there no way to know who it is even though he knows for a fact several other Dark Angels are from his home world even his squads sergeant because they have retained there accents. The Death wing story has kind of been pushed earlier in the timeline in recent years its considered a chapter legend now that they introduced the Death wing companions in the horus heresy wearing bone armor already as well. So it may vary due to other factors such as birth world or the chapters policy may have changed over time.

Compare that the the Ultra Marines and Salamanders who maintain ties to their human families(best example is Uriel Ventris)

    Not yet no.

I decided to do both another Space marine faction, Ultramarines as I want to get the Uriel Ventris model that is coming out next month and a small guard one(stimulus money lol). The issue is with the guard. I don't want to just do Cadians in another color. I am looking third party bits for guard heads and other stuff.

I have some friends from the local store that are building large point armies. One has a huge necron force , another a huge amount of Orkz, and another plays Chaos and has all three distinct armies(Thousands sons w/Magnus, Deathguard with Mortarion And Typhus, and Black Legion with Abandon) so I have people to play a battle against in the summer.

I decided to do a small second space marine army because as I said on previous post I am trying to get more of different flavors of 40k and since my first love is reading I dedided to start with space Marines that was not dark angels or horus heresy era(which is what got me fully into 40k) so I read some death watch books and I read Guy Haley's two most recent blood angels books and enjoyed them I decided to read some ultra marine stuff because I enjoyed their interactions with the Dark Angels in the heresy era novels and since Robute is central to the most recent stuff I asked a friend what was good for the smurfs, having seen slot of memes and also some stuff about the Ultra especially about former GW writer Matt Ward making them too OP, and a friend suggested Graham Mcneills Uriel Ventris books for a different take on Ultra Marines and I am really having trouble putting the books down so far. I also picked up the The Cawl novel the Great work up at a trip to the bookstore and the Ciaphas Cain omnibus.

You could go "count as" and use Kharadron Overlords models or Freeguild Handgunners, or if you are up to some conversioning could you use the head from Wildwood Rangers or Skitarii Rangers with guardsmen or Militarum Tempestus Scions bodies, or on fantasy range bodies with 40k weapons, if you are up to even more work. Take a look on Chris Peach army at the lower part of this page Converting your own Free City for some possebilities.

Also, I suggest using ratlings as one of the detachment, as a wink to the Watchers in the Dark (maybe give them hooded heads)
